I think as long as you're honest with your friends that are going thru stuff and just letting them know where you are mentally and what your interpretation of the experience is ... You can always be there for them, understanding or not. Just don't close up or close them off -- let them know you have trouble understanding and just let them know what you're experiencing that's it really man .. I think if you give your friend in need something to attach to that's part of your experience you can help lift them up by just being you.
