- What a story! Dr. Carl Allamby had a successful career as a business owner and master technician but couldn’t shake his childhood dream of becoming a doctor. It took a spark much later in life to remind him of this childhood dream and that was all she wrote. We learn what it took for him to overcome childhood poverty and low expectations from his peers. We’ll see why he did not let his age stop him from achieving this dream that once seemed so insurmountable.

I am currently 38, have a 4 yo and 2 yo, and have returned to "high school" to upgrade my marks. I know I will be older than all the other med students, when I eventually get there, but Dr Allamby is proof that it's never too late. I don't want the regret of not trying. Thank you for sharing this story!
Do you have a channel for your journey?
Keep going @katvb85 it’s a marathon not a sprint. I believe in you and you are in my prayers always.
Can’t wait to hear your journey. You got this!
So inspiring
Inspirational! Starting Term 2 in August, and listening to his story - wow! Similar route and age for me, great to hear his story!!!
Proud of you! Keep pushing brother!
Good Luck! I'm rooting for you Bro.
I can spot how smart he is from the get go. I'm sure he had family support, which counts for a lot. However, his drive, passion, and determination to keep himself motivated, not just for the goal, but to be able to endure the long journey, it's beyond impressive and inspiring. So proud of Dr. Allamby. Thank you for sharing his story

I'm having a hard time because I have a black son that wants to be a doctor. He has never had a mentor and is hanging out by himself trying to get there. Where can he get some help? He need a mentor that's his color. That can lead him on his journey that has walked this road.
The journey can be lonely. Maybe we can help. What grade is he in and what city do y’all live in?

He not a teen. He just completed his masters. He lives in St Louis, MO
Sorry for all the typos. Moving to fast & didn't proof read.
So are you 47 ? Starting
How does this organization help black men get there?
Through a number of means. We host youth summits across the country, have podcasts, made short documentaries, inspire through social media, provided scholarships, have weekly virtual coaching meetings. We’ve mentored thousands and now have over 30 chapters at med schools across the country supporting their local communities. We produced a full length documentary called “Black Men in White Coats” (www.BMWCmovie.com) which was show. At most media schools in the country highlighting this problem. We’ve got a lot more going on. Please spread the word.
