    Those are most likely Nittan devices. Means its adressable. They are manditory in the uk, but not really in canada. But on ships, ferrys, ect, they are. The sprinklers are also activates by a water valve that opens water to the sprinklers in all open areas (outdoor), and the reason they dont have a bulb for most of the outside ones, is because it was said that they were vulnerable to damage. Inside sprinklers should have bulbs. Pin would be apreciated :)

    Seeing that you like planes you should build an ADS-B Station to receive the planes' signals. It's quite inexpensive and you can get a lot of coverage on your backyard. Nice video as always!

    Really cool video! This system is a consilium fire system. This is a Nordic brand (European) and commonly are installed on ships. They mostly do marine systems and less on land. The heads are rebranded nittan which is a British brand but the protocols and panels are different. The sprinklers in the garage might be a deluge system so when a detector or 2 goes of there the head will activate. Interesting video and keep up the great work!

    These are UK style alarm devices installed in a marine method the systems are also designed on a ship to not sound on an alarm initially it activates certain procedures that staff will follow to validate the emergency because evacuating a ship in the middle of the sea is not always the most practical option when a singular piece of paper is on fire. The systems have also been tested to a higher standard for ships essentially it’s to do with the method of failure on a ship is usually very wet compared to lots of fire.

    Every large vessel is equipped with a gas-type fire suppression system. Most civil ships use CO2, but some military ones use halon or FM200 instead. Unlike automatic systems that's typically seen in server rooms, these systems are fully manual-operated. Two small bottles of nitrogen are used to activate selector valves and container valves.

    The system we're looking at is basically a revamped Nittan setup. These devices are made in the UK, and for this particular system, they’re imported, tweaked, and then rebranded. The call points are also UK-made, featuring both older and newer KAC designs, which are the go-to call points globally. Back in the 90s to 2010s, Nittan was a reliable choice in the UK and Ireland, boasting top-notch detection tech for that era. However, after GENT by Honeywell launched their SQuad detectors in 2006, most people started opting for GENT instead. Even today, Honeywell's SQuad range is still considered the most advanced fire detection device out there. Since then, Nittan's popularity has really dropped in the UK. You might still spot some old Nittan systems, but finding a new one is pretty rare unless you’re on a train-like the newer Northern trains that use Nittan. Occasionally, you might see other companies using Nittan detectors in their systems, with STI and Hyfire being the most common. Interestingly, both of these companies have started producing their own detectors now.
    I think maritime regulations and SOLAS require that all fire detection, alerting, and triggering devices be designed and made in Britain. However, the actual systems, like the panels, often come from places like Romania or Finland. They make arrangements with companies like KAC and Nittan and then import the devices from the Uk , and then rebrand them.

    • @ryanhelton1865
      @ryanhelton1865 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@epic49013Nooe they all get manufactured in the UK. The call point they use Is KAC which are only designed a manufactured in the Uk.
      The system your referring to is a Norway system but all they give the specifications to the relevant Uk companies like KAC and Nittan they are then especially made and then imported to Norway for the systems. That’s how it works.
      If you was to open up all those devices they’d would have have British standard mark and manufactured and designed Britain.
      It’s a legal requirement by SOLAS so they legally must be made in the Uk if they are not they can’t be used on any ship of any nationality that’s what the regs say.

    A few years ago, I went on a cruise ship. As an American, this was my first time seeing a “European style” fire alarm system. They had an addressable Autronica system. They had heat detectors outdoors and smoke detectors and call points indoors. All of the guest rooms had 2 smoke detectors. They had sounder bases on them. I’m guessing that one smoke detector going off in a room would trigger the sounder bases and both going off would trigger the general alarm. The alarm tones came from the intercom system and ship horns. Each room had an intercom speaker that did not play general announcements. I did, however, play alarm tones and emergency announcements. We actually were woken up in the middle of the night to an emergency announcement telling people that part of the ship had lost electricity and to remain calm. Interestingly, they also had North American devices (Potter select-a-remote strobes. These went off whenever the emergency alarm tones were sounding. The alarm was 7 short blasts followed by one long blast. This apparently is the standardized general alarm signal that is most commonly used on ships throughout the world.

    • @ElloImNoodle
      @ElloImNoodle หลายเดือนก่อน

      actually the fire detection system is entirely separate from any alarm system the guests use. the only place a alarm goes of because of a fire on cruise ships is in the bridge, engine room, and engine control room. the general emergency alarm is activated by the press of a button in the bridge. also the pa system can do normal general announcements inside the rooms they just choose not to so to not annoy people.

    • @aerhardt
      @aerhardt หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@ElloImNoodle Thanks for letting me know. You are right about the PA speaker in the room. I should have worded that differently. When they made that announcement in the rooms, it wasn’t really an emergency announcement, so much as a “high priority” one that they made to all of the rooms because almost everyone was in their rooms and they wanted to stop the panic.

    It’s just too bad the Queen of New Westminster is out of service for the next several months as you would love the system on her. She consists of NBG-12 pulls with Notifier 10” bells (General signalling grey system installed in 2007.) When any of of the stations on board are activated the bells do not ring initially… rather the on board fire detection Notifier system sounds a local alarm on the bridge and in the engine control room. During this time the system is in a sort of stage one pre-alarm where it is only heard in these 2 locations. It is then up to the crew to determine the source of the alarm and if it’s they confirmed to be real they will put the system into full “general alarm” mode in which the bells throughout the vessel ring continuously. If the activated fire alarm is not acknowledged after 5 minutes it will go into general alarm automatically. You’ll also love the system on the Queen of Alberni and Queen of Cowichan/Coqutlam which were built in 1976. - Exactly the same NBG12’s as Westminster but with original 76 Edwards 10” Adaptabels. As for those Coliseum’s same functions as the above systems but with alert tones over the PA system and ship’s whistle instead of bells.

    • @nics-systems-electric
      @nics-systems-electric  หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Yes absolutely I had responded to some other comments about the older V-class and C-class ships with the systems we're more familiar with.

    • @mikeross880
      @mikeross880 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The original V class ferries had by far the best systems. Originally they all had 270-SPO’s for the pull stations and 6”grey adaptabel bells. Now the Spirits (built in 1992 and 1993) had an interesting setup for its time originally while the pull stations were Edwards 270-SPO the bells were Notifier 10” with “white” labels instead of the more recent black. As for those sprinklers on the Coastal class; they are what are known as “hi-fog” which minimize water damage from discharge and are gaining momentum throughout the fire protection industry. (Yes like you said they are misters) The elevators on those ships are KONE marine.

      @@dutchwolf2675They are. Maritime law states all fire alarm devices on any type of vessel must be devices that have been designed and manufactured in the Uk.
      The systems the high they are part of may not be from the Uk but the devices will be designed and manufactured and then imported by the company which then rebrands them and modified them for their systems.

      @@ryanhelton1865 that’s not true though. The largest manufacturers of marine equipment are autronica and consilium and they are both from the Nordic countries

    They put fire alarms and fire suppression on a ship that’s surrounded by water? You have to be kidding…

      Fire is definitely one of the biggest risks on a ship

      You must be slow. What are they supposed to do grab buckets and throw it at a fire? What if there’s a fire in the lower car deck that u can’t access during the sailing they will just wait?? No this is a dumb comment you should think before you do anything next time. If they can be notified about a fire they can put a mayday out… please do better

    Virtually no information. Basically a travelog with supposition about the fire alarm system.
