I doubt that I'd get the video out before you plant. Just follow the directions on the package and you should be fine. I did start mine indoors under a grow light to give them a head start, but other than that I followed the directions on the package.
Thanks for the information. I transplanted some after picking them from the hillside across the street. I now have my own nettle patch to pick from and it is expanding. They do not get sprayed at my house. Good information. Glad I found you.
Itransplanted some baby nettles now about 2inches tall and seem to have stopped growig a few leaves have turned yellow wtats wrong and how can i fix it ,thank you
You confused me when you said self fertile. European stinging nettle has separate male and female plants, not both on the same plant like Gracilis has.
My two plants, after 4 years, are still just two plants in the same spot. They never spread like that. I do harvest new growth in the late spring. I've also never seen seeds, just the male pollen things. Maybe that's why?
@@greatescapefarms Full sun. Maybe a little shade at the end of the day. There's only one spot in my whole yard that gets sun all day and that's where the garden beds are and they are just to the outside of those. I'm going to extend the bed and propagate them this fall and also plant more seeds. Fingers crossed, because I'm tired of spending a money buying nettle leaf from an outside source.
@@Jerseyhighlander I ended up planting a bunch of small bare root plants last fall in a very wet area that's a bit shaded and they are coming up great this spring. I think the other spot just doesn't get enough water and the soil isn't great. I'm going to sprinkle a lot of compost around those and make sure they get more water and see if they don't take off better, but I expect the new patch to do much better where it is. I think the first patch is just in a bad spot.
My stinging nettle leaves keep turning black on their perimeter. Do you know what I'm doing wrong? It's still in the pot. I'm about to put it in the ground.
Did they ever dry out? I've had other plants that I forgot about and they dried out. I watered them and they did not die, but the perimeter turned black and the leaves were dry and crumbly.
There is an Amazon in the show notes. I'm not selling them, just linking for viewers like you whou would like seed. I just checked and it is still available.
I have not tried a lot of methods, but have had wonderful luck every time I've propagated in the late spring/early summer. They are going through a growth sprit then and establish nicely.

Do you know if you can propagate the leaf cutting?
I'm sure you could but with most plants a good root cutting works the best , yeah? Or seeds.
How would you prune in the winter? Also if you harvest the tips do new tips form? Thanks for the great video
This plant is doing so wel!
Just have ideal soil and trim it down in the winter!
What type of soil should they go in?
So..hows it look if in one's yard?
How are you keeping it confined to the bed if you let it go to seed? Does rhizomes grow past your edges?
I just pull it when it gets to the edges and weed whack outside the bed to keep it tidy.

Too much water? Are they too wet?
You confused me when you said self fertile. European stinging nettle has separate male and female plants, not both on the same plant like Gracilis has.
I was confused when studying nettles. Most of the video were British. My plants are bisexual. USA. Not sure the type other than not wood nettles.
Did you grow it from the seed an is it going to grow again next year without seeding?
My original plant patch came from 6 seeds. They have come back for the last 3 years as this plant is a perennial.
@@greatescapefarms Thanks!

I just let it grow in back of my yard, part of it I let to grow full size for seeds, and part of it i use for leafs cutting regularly.

@@sweaterdoll Good luck with your move and propagation.
Sounds like your soil may need some amendments... Maybe try fish emulsion. Nettle likes a fairly rich soil. Also, check the soil pH.

Dear, I bought the seeds from Amazon, but I don’t know in what month i should plant them?
They should be planted in the spring. I'm in the United States zone 6, so I would put them in the ground in April.
I want to buy this nettles seed to grow my kitchen garden.

Definitely want to tell folks who don't have callouses to wear gloves with these plants.
Is it best to propagate rhizomes in Autumn, winter in pots or plant rhizomes directly out in the soil in Spring?

Seeds ?
?
Now we know how to grow them - can you tell us how to stop them growing.
I have not tried this myself but have heard that it will work - Organic weed killer: www.drivenbydecor.com/organic-weed-killer-spray/
Eat them! Sautéed with garlic 😋

Most people want to get rid of stinging nettle 😂. It's a weed here.
It's a tasty weed though!
Very nutritious. My herb teacher always says "eat your weeds".
