  • Oil painting - Landscape painting of a mining shack. This is a timelapse video of an alla prima oil painting. In this video you'll see a painting go from a blank canvas to a signed and finished oil painting. Alla Prima painting is a technique that helps an artist be fresh and innovative with paint. It is also the best technique to paint from life. I'll explain elements to pay attention to during the time lapse to better enhance your view time.

    Very nice job, Doug. I especially liked the amount of time that you spent on the details, after the main forms had been defined. Those details took it to another level.
    I was wondering if you had considered doing a commentary instead of the music during the editing process? It wasn't bad, but I just muted it so I could watch the video over and over. Thanks for posting this. It was really good.

      @@douglevittfineart Wow! Thank you for answering! i heard that doing an Alla prima painting can be difficult because you only have one layer of paint. But i see that a lot of artists actually paint a lot of layers doing Alla prima, i´m not sure if they are all using a type of medium and thinner or if they are mixing the painting on the canvas without any medium, but that would contradict the whole thick over thin rule right?

    • @douglevittfineart
      @douglevittfineart  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@erp123erp when you paint alla prima it’s usually done in one setting and it’s best to start thin and as you go you do tend to build up the amount of paint you’re using - for me that’s part of the fun 🤓🎨🎨

    Thanks for the really nice demonstration. I have one question: How long does a painting like that take to dry? I assume you are using the pure color and no drying agents, so just the pure paint. I imagine it must take months. As a novice in oil painting,, I'm trying to find my way with oils and somehow I like the alla prima approach.

      For the time beeing I have to figure out most of it myself or by finding helpful information on the internet. Hopefully I find a way, because at the moment my oil paints and me are not on the same page ;o)

      I’m sorry it wasn’t to your taste - I’ll be releasing other videos as I go that are portions of real time brush work. The thing I like about the time lapse videos like this one is that you actually see every brush stroke (although it is fast it gives you the full development of a painting) while the real time videos require jumping ahead - so you see brush strokes as they happen but you also miss a ton of stuff. But if you prefer the real time demo come back for another visit and give those a try - and thanks for giving my channel a chance🤓🎨 Also, I’m working towards a full, real time instructional video. I hope to have it released in the New Year!
