Poor Sire du Berlais..ignominious end for a fantastic horse. Sheer greed on part of JP and GE.. better to retire a race too early than one too late. He was 12yo and had won them three quarters of a million. How much is enough? Jockey should have pulled him up after the 5th fence. Run free over the rainbow bridge dear horse..you didn't deserve that😢
First Shiskin and now the awful news about Sire Du Berlais 😢. What a servant he was for connections, aged like a fine wine. Took the shine off Teahupoo easily winning another grade 1.
I didn't know either. So sad 😢. I had him at 80/1 NRNB when he won The Stayers at Cheltenham. I backed him each way today. I wasn't aware he'd died.RIP Sire du Berlais 💔
@@Rebeljustforkicks I never heard that he fell so did he collapse. He was so far back and I know that's how he races but if u watch race the jockey was a pushing him and whip not one of his best rides. Elixir same last week
@@suemaher5282he didn't fall, he was pulled up just before 3 out as he had gone wrong badly, I feared the worst after seeing it. They have edited it out of the video thankfully.
No not this year monty i was just thinking ahead.not as ground dependent as people think.love the way he puts the head down..just watched the bumper there nice win by wingman pays a nice compliment to wiiliam munny who hammered him earlier in season and gave him weight that day..
Question please . The fourth horse , jumped up under pressure and was closing for second 50 yards before the line . The jockey put his whip down , finished fourth . Your thoughts please when he looked a certainty for the first 3 . I'm confused how it came fourth .
Yes definitely stoped riding loomed up like he was going to fly by the 2nd and then got beat for 3rd…he also moved his whip from his left arm to his right which is really strange on the run in
Do you really think if mark Walsh had known that was going to happen he would have kept going ? Of course he would have pulled him up ! Everything seems obvious when you have the benefit of hindsight and sometimes you just can’t predict these things especially when the horse was known to race lazily anyway. And mark Walsh knew the horse better than anybody he’s rode him most of his life I don’t think anyone should be openly criticising the lad don’t you think he will already be feeling awful about it without every expert keyboard jockey that’s never ridden in a race in their life jumping on his back aswell !!!
@@lukemichael7772 Did I say he thought it would happen? Did I say he wouldnt feel terrible? Nope I didnt say that coz of course he would. That doesnt mean he is infallible or incapable or misreading the situation. Even tho u seem to think it does. I simply said he did the horse no favours... And judging by the fact the horse died thats obviously true. He didnt do the horse any favours. It was struggling from the start and its 12. Not a young horse. He kept going. If you think the jockey is totally blameless then youre a keyboard plonker. Anyway happy to disagree.
Great performance unfortunately marred by the death of Sire d B for the Gordon Elliott team. This guy has the ability to dominate the staying scene for at least another season and possibly more. Congratulations to the team
I'm far from woke Martin but have a bit of compassion ffs. A great old stalwart has died and people are paying their respect. Plus Mark Walsh has come under scrutiny which has been discussed.

Mark walsh, poorest bit of horsemanship I’ve ever seen on the ride of sire du berlais, the 12 year old didn’t deserve that ending, hope JP makes his feelings known, poor ride. 🫡
Rest up Sire Du Berlais. One of my favourite racehorses ever 💚

Didn't know this that's so sad. He's been around forever. Deserved to finish at Martinstown. Very sad

That is sad - he was such a warrior and seemed to defy his age especially with his Stayers win last year.

Massive congratulations all connections. Best of luck in future whatever you all decide to do.
RIP Sire de berlais
Sire Du Berlais should have been pulled up early in the race. Had nothing to prove being scrubbed along like that. RIP
Watch his win in Cheltenham and aintree last year.
That’s the way hes had to been ridden he never travels
Awful news ..what a horse ..fantastic cv👍
Totally agree after watching him being pushed with no chance.use of whip he should have pulled him up
I was sure they would retire him after Cheltenham. He'd done enough. He deserved better than this.💔
Brilliant performance he just seems to be getting better.dont think he would be out of place on them staying flat races getting his ground
They won't do that mate, he'll be enjoying a well earned holiday

Thanks for your observations.
I watched it , no money involved.
And thought the same as yourself.
Did sire get hurt on a hurdle or running in trying to spot out what even happened I don’t understand this one
The jockey did Sire Du Berlais no favours there. It was clear he was struggling from the start but Walsh just kept pushing him. RIP
Totally agree misjudged ride by Walsh should have pulled him up
Totally agreed didn't wonted nothing to with racing today

That’s how he runs he’s a stayer but never travels go back & watch his Cheltenhams wins off the bridle early but stays all day
jack look into stem cell repair for your leg bro look after yourself great job on winning the Irish Jockey Championship.
This is the issue recently ages 10-13 might be to old tbh even tho some stage event horses ride and jump till ages of 20
Awful decision from Mark Walsh. Sire should have been pulled up at the half way point at the latest. Terrible. RIP SDB

Sad that the comments seem to be for Sire rather than celebrating the winner.
