Re: "Wayne Madere". He is Excellent! "Clear Voice!" "Enunciates clearly!" "Speaks SLOW enough to understand! (A real gem for these days.) He'd shows us close up (Zooms-in) how to Do something & even points to where & what it looks like, the "camera zooms in perfectly." He is just wonderful, in "My" opinion! (I'm 67, hearing is important, as well as vision!) Thanks Wayne.
I've been looking for info about Chrome OS for my dad. He's been given a new Chromebook and can't figure it out. He's eighty and on the other side of the world. I sent this video to him and now he's starting to get it. Thank you mate, you're an excellent teacher!
What a lot of people fail to realize, is that you can control your main PC remotely with this as well. I love the handiness of my Chromebook, and the option of having my main computer everywhere I go for video editing, 3D crap, photoshop....hell...watching my media in formats that the Chromebook doesn't play. Save projects and files to my cloud, and download them for use wherever. Not a main PC sure... but it can be a direct extension of the one that is. They are wicked convenient, and fast for web crap.
Go to the Chrome Apps store, and find the remote desktop app. Setup the computers you wish to access remotely, type in the access numbers, and boom. They remote connect in a matter of like 5 seconds. Makes it really handy if you work at the office and at home on the same project.
I have been considering getting a Chromeboo on amazon: amzn.to/1kctHo1 .It seems good, I do use Google for just about everything. Documents, videos, social networking, phone calls, chatting, shopping, etc. This is a really good review. Anyone with experience using a Chromebook and what do you think? What is your opinion about the device? #@#@#!#!#
No disrespect, but every time I see, hear or read someone bashing a chromebook & saying they can get this or that for the money, it's funny, I never hear them mention the FACT that a chromebook receives updates every time it comes available. Sometimes it's a couple times a month, but when the icon appears, asking you to "restart to update", ya click, BAM, your done, ya have the new version. It TRULY is "the always new computer". I own a Samsung 5 550 I bought over a year ago. I absolutely love it. I can boot it up, and if that icon happens to appear, to update to newest version, I can do that too, and still be online WAY faster than most. Also, no critic ever mentions the fact that security is always taken care of too. I haven't used my desktop since. And I hammer on my chromebook for hours, EVERY day and EVERY night. It's just as fast as it ever was. It hasn't let me down yet. So, when a person buys that chromebook, they are paying for ALL future updates & future security 1 time.......and THAT is hard to beat. And, like the other person commented below, no critic is mentioning the fact that you can work on your desktop THROUGH your chromebook to do all the "heavy lifting". It's as if the critics want all these good things about chrome kept secret. And the chrome browser just SPANKS all other browsers, PERIOD. I'm totally spoiled with my chromebook. But to each his/her own I guess. Grace & Peace- :-)
This video was a game-changer. I just bought a chromebook and had zero idea how to use it or what all these buttons were for!! Thanks so much for making this video.
Just wanted to say thank you for your "intro" video. Just got a HP Chromebook a week ago, and it helps. I have been using Windows, Linux, Android, and Mac OS since their beginnings. Nice job man!
Very nice layout of the basics. I picked up chromebook to play around with. It's a Lenovo but the (now three year old) walkthrough will still covered everything to get familiar enough to feel comfortable looking around and trying things on one's own. I've watched a few, this video does the best job helping users out. Thanks!
This was SUCH a great tutorial! I'm going to share this with my teachers, so I can help them learn Chromebooks as we go 1:1. You were very thorough and I appreciate you doing this! Gave me a ton of great ideas!
This video was really helpful to me. It got me more familiar with my HP Chromebook that I purchased. Can you make a video on how to uninstall apps that you no longer want on the HP Chromebook? That will be really helpful. Thanks a lot!
Open the Google Play Store and find the App byname that you want to un-install. When it appears on the screen, there is an un-Install Button. Just click, and it's gone.
A million thanks. You have been a life saver! I have learned so much finally. This is the best explanation I have found on TH-cam. Thank you soooo much! OAN: I still have not found out how to copy and paste or delete JUST a SINGLE WORD or JUST a PARAGRAPH off of my work. However I do know how to copy when using Select ALL then copy and paste or delete. If, you do another tutorial please include much needed instructions. I prefer my task bar apps to the right of my screen. Thanks again for that tip location. I really love this little Chromebook. It was given to me as a gift from my daughter. I would have never in a million years considered this little guy. I loved it the minute I took it out of the box and felt how light weight and perfect it fit into my hands. Also, the boot up quickness was awesome. I am still learning. I so, appreciate you taking the time to explain here on TH-cam and making it easy for a beginner to locate you.
This is one of the bests tutorial type video I have ever seen. Great job explaining all of these complicated computer buttons. Thank you so much for making this video so user friendly.
1. It does have a built in media player but you have to make sure your video in a compatible format. It is also very basic. 2. Some games support offline play. You should check out the offline collection in the chrome web store. 3. Google Drive supports offline editing of documents now. It doesn't become a brick but you will be missing out on some programs. Soundation is a basic daw that runs in chrome but you need to be online to use it.
And linux users would say the same about windows; i have used all of the operating systems and this is perfect for me as a student. It's very lightweight, portable, and has fast start up. The battery life on the built in battery is two times what i get out of my windows laptop. Is it a powerhouse of a machine? Well, no. But it does do most of the things my windows computer can do and that's all that really matters. You'd be surprised what you can do with a Chromebook.
great for a 68 year old dinosaur. Actually could use a little more basic info for my computer illiteracy, but very helpful. will need to view this again.
Thanks H2Tech, My new Asus 13 is in the mail. You've given me a great start already. You are good with the camera and you maintain good train of thought/narration. Cool.
Chromebooks are worth the money. They are great for business, and basic home use. For $250 or less, you don't go wrong getting one. Add in the fact, the OS is easy to use.
THANK YOU SO MUCH I PURCHASED THE ACER BECAUSE I LIKED WHAT IT HAD BUT REALLY DIDNT KNOW WHAT I BOUGHT. I LEARNED SO MUCH FROM YOUR VIDEO AND COULDNT TAKE NOTES FAST ENOUGH MANY REPEATS IM SURE ILL OPEN IT AGAIN BEFORE I UNDERSTAND. IT IS SO DIFFERENT FROM WINDOWS. BUT I THINK THE TRANSITION WONT BE AS HARD AS I FIRST THOUGHT. YOU ARE AMAZING. THANK YOU
No it won't hurt the computer in the long run. I've owned my hp chromebook for 4 months now and I always let it sleep. The performance of my computer has been the same since the day i got it. Of course sometimes you need to give it a reboot, but that's typical for any kind of computer.
This was very helpful, I just got the HP full size one & so far it's a learning curve but I love how fast it boots up & how seamless it is on the internet. My phone has hot spot capabilities so thanks for sharing the importance of off line apps. I have an older windows laptop that is great for off line stuff & watching movies but sucks at anything online, also 2 desktops for boys and another newer laptop for my husband also windows so I think the chrome book will fit in just fine in our house.
I think I really liked it because it better to have small chrome laptop and not like dell laptop so, there are no more room in the bag. I like to stay clean on screen saver and I don't know what else I'm going to say about chrome lap top. My social studies teacher had a chrome laptops for all classmates and me to work on something so, I don't need to write with pencil to get tired of my hand for an long time to work on. it was my first time to used chrome laptop at school. :)
It is not competing with OSX or Windows 8/7/Vista. It is a cheaper laptop for people that only use apps on the internet like social networks or just browsing the net. It is made to be simplistic and quick.
Wow I am so very grateful, you have truly helped me. You answered questions that I did not even know to ask. I got just what I wanted and needed. Thank you so much for keeping it simple, I washed this many times. My kids are tired of me, so I made up my mind that I would go and learn for myself on the internet, You help me reach my goal. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you.
where do i find the apps icon? I just got the Samsung chrome and the only icon on my front screen is the search, chrome, gmail, doc and you tube. Please help!!!!
Thanks David! I am almost 60, not to proud to learn. Silver and gold have I none, but I give you PSALM 11 (in your heart, you know it's right---confide in a friend/SHALOM!)
I'm waiting for my Samsung Chromebook since I go to college soon this month in June plus I have a lot of virtual visit with my daughter it be so easy to use a laptop instead of my phone so the instructions would be useful and informative
Super great video I'm going to have to watch it again I just bought a Chromebook and can't use this thing to save my life but I want to learn thumbs up on the great video
A few icons I had originally suddenly disappeared - specifically my TH-cam icon. Not sure if it happened during an 'update' regardless, I have yet to figure out how to put it back.
Carol, In the event you still haven't gotten the You Tube icon back on the Shelf, following this path should work: "launch" button > All Apps > find the You Tube icon > press "alt" key while doing a left click on the You Tube icon > Pin to shelf. I hope this works for you! 03/28/2017
Like windows, they changed the path, or location to which functions are accessed and called it a new version while no functionality was changed. ChromeOS re-invents the wheels on the basics, changes its names, like they call it "shelf" for "task bar", and calls it a new OS without concentrating on new features and functions. This is how big company makes money, suck and rip-off.
I keep looking for the "getting started" app you showed and I cant find it anywhere in the store. How do I get it? The video was very helpful though. This was bought for me as a work computer and it came with no instructions and I was lost. Thank you!
Great tutorial man! I found a lot of useful information. It seems like my version is slightly different (I don't have the apps option on my lower taskbar and I have a minimization key on the upper left of the window and the botton on the top right of my keyboard is a lock key and not the off key)
Good job on the video Wayne, got an Acer c720 and had a little trouble understanding the whole operating system, even through its simplicity. I'm so used to windows complexity that it was almost overwhelming at how underwhelming it is! Thank you for the guide.
***** Now did I say that? Did I say it's only Chrome? I am saying, you keep yourself low key as much as you can....Don't broadcast your identity, Chrome books do not give an option to keep your identity private! In order for them to work, you have to sign up and sign in.. Oh yea and because they are strictly web based, they are less powerful and cost practically nothing to make. Thus they can appear to the buyer as a deal!
how do i get the icon for apps in the bottom left corner to appear? Also, how do I get the icon on the top right to appear? I don't have either of them. Thank you
I purchased my chromebook about two years ago. I will not buy another windows operated device. The only draw back is with documents. It does not have all the same features. I have found work arounds.
+E Walker I loved windows 10 surface book pro 3. I know the price point is a bit steep. But its an amazing machine. I have a chromebook samsung 15 inch which I plan to sell now. I am thoroughly in love with the surface.
+Ram Kumar Glad for you that you're not having windows 10 issues. I bought 7 brand new laptops with windows 10 preinstalled, all different price points and they all had windows 10 compatibility issues. All tech supports for each one couldn't fix the issues, so they were all returned.
hi thanks for the tips. anyways im having trouble with the camera and i havent even use it i just got this laptop and i dont know why it doesnt let me .it just says that other app may be using it
what's the offline experience of chrome os? does it have a basic media player/game/office suit/etc or does it becomes dead weight? i personaly would be interested in a basic DAW like audiosauna or audiotool? do a check on that and make a video. xD
Thank you for the great and very thorough explanations! I just bought a refurbished model with 1TB HD and NO instructions. Can a mouse be used with a Chromebook?
im gonna get my chromebook in a couple of days and thought it was a windows powered computer...lol and i am a big fan of google so yeah idk what happened there haha...thanks man that was helpful.
I have a couple of questions do you suggest I purchase microsoft office i am a student or will the google apps be compatible? I have attempted to add my wireless printer to my chrome book but I was not successful any tips?
Thank you for the help. Just bought a #Chromebook last Sunday (HP Chromebook 14). It's a little awkward but this baby is a beast!!!!!!! Love it how Google have given you the option for 2 years 100 GB of storage or 3 months free of Google Play radio (opted for the 100 GB). I know over time that this will catch on but for now I'm trying to teach myself on how to use the other Google applications like Google Docs, Sheets, and so on. wrethe one question i have for you is there any way to transfer data from Google Drive to a flash drive and visa/verse?
When you are in your Google drive, you drag and drop the file onto the flash drive icon in the file manager. If you are using Windows of Mac, you can install Google drive on your computer and it appears as a folder in your file manager/finder... and do the same thing... Google drive works just like a folder on the computer.
How about opening PDF files? I ordered a chromebook and I'm coming from using windows... And I have a lot of PDFs..can I use a USB spitter to add more flash drives
It's nice you introduce the keyboard at the beginning of the video, but you just mention the first row. Soon after you say the sound keys, you jump into the screen to explain the apps icons. Why? What happen to other keys on the keyboard? Do you know there is no delete key on the keyboard, and why?
very helpful but got a question what if the i con with the little dots is not on my screen I can click on the search button and it pulls apps up but no little icon. thanks for any help
i need help on how to highlight a specific part of a sentence to delete JUST that part & also how to click & drag something like an app on the bottom screen, my dad moved the app button all the way to the left & every things just off balance 0-0 please write back thank you
to mark text just press touchpad with left finger (and hold, keep pressing down touchpad button) then swipe with right finger, to copy use your normal twofinger tap on the touchpad or strg/ctrl+c /+v if your menubar is moved to a side, just use the common two-finger tap onto the touchpad to enter a option menu. two finger tap onto touchpad is like mouse-rightlick in windows i recommend also to view getting started information

Hello. this is a very good video. Can you please tell me what the difference is between this OS and Mac's?
what's the offline experience of chrome os?
does it have a basic media player/game/office suit/etc or does it becomes dead weight?
i personaly would be interested in a basic DAW like audiosauna or audiotool?
do a check on that and make a video.
xD
Thanks for an excellent introduction to Chrome OS. Great job!!!!
Thank you, this information will help me get acclimated to my new Chromebook.
Do you pay for extra gigs? And can you save things to external harddrives like a normal hard drive?
This was a great tutorial. I enjoyed is immensely. I learned a lot.
Thanks for this overview, it was very helpful. I'm working on a Dell Chromebook and at the time it's a challenge.

Is it possible to download silverlight in chromebook; or should I say is there any equivalent software that you may have found to work.
Thank you, very helpful info. Just found out I'm getting a Chromebook this week for my new job. Nice overview!
Very helpful and informative.
Gotcha! Thanks!
Great teaching, dude! Thank you so much. Love your style.

It's nice you introduce the keyboard at the beginning of the video, but you just mention the first row. Soon after you say the sound keys, you jump into the screen to explain the apps icons. Why?
What happen to other keys on the keyboard? Do you know there is no delete key on the keyboard, and why?
very helpful but got a question what if the i con with the little dots is not on my screen I can click on the search button and it pulls apps up but no little icon. thanks for any help
i need help on how to highlight a specific part of a sentence to delete JUST that part & also how to click & drag something like an app on the bottom screen, my dad moved the app button all the way to the left & every things just off balance 0-0 please write back thank you
to mark text just press touchpad with left finger (and hold, keep pressing down touchpad button) then swipe with right finger, to copy use your normal twofinger tap on the touchpad or strg/ctrl+c /+v
if your menubar is moved to a side, just use the common two-finger tap onto the touchpad to enter a option menu.
two finger tap onto touchpad is like mouse-rightlick in windows
i recommend also to view getting started information
