its funny how everyone always shows cigarettes and smoking when gerry talks about dying, but he died from a brain tumor unrelated to smoking. just one of those things about his death that make it feel even more random
Can’t speak for anyone else, but that scene was meant as visual metaphor rather than literally portraying his death-the image of a tiny light being extinguished in a puddle. We don’t know the incident that led to him being hospitalized/finding out about the tumor, so I chose to depict it as him getting sudden intense head pain during a stakeout, with the cigarette falling into a puddle when he loses his grip.

I really hope that it turned out John didn’t have to say “I dismiss you” so formally and in That Voice, but it worked as well as a normal “you can go now” would have. So Gerry’s last moment of conscious existence is being on the verge of laughing at something.
Like many others, "Family Business" is one of my favorite episodes. I have never been sure quite how to imagine the book summonings-- the echoes when Gerry talks, and the line "I'm a BOOK." have always made me imagine it as a disembodied voice, but Jonathon's offer for a cigarette made that seem nonsensical to me. Seeing the words float up off the page and then form into a noncorporeal version of Gerry... that will be the way I imagine it from now on. Excellent work.
I loosely based it on Mary Keay's description of the process in First Edition. She says that the former patient appeared but doesn't elaborate on any unusual aspects to his form, so I figured that meant he looked more-or-less normal. She also doesn't describe any SFX during the summoning... but that would be really boring XD;;;
Such a hauntingly beautiful goth man, I love your design for Gerry. I love how even though his life was a nightmare and he was abused so much, Gerry never stopped being a genuinely good man. Every time he shows up in a statement, yeah he acts vague and spooky, but he’s always doing what he can to help people. Even when he doesn’t have to.
I dunno if that was the creators' intention? But I just got the vibe that she's a physical person who likes to ignore boundaries to watch people squirm, which Jon does with an uncomfortable flush. Plus she just has this sort of... purr to her timbre.

22:36 really well picked colors. i was surprised that the stranger is teal when thats an untraditional color for the circus, but it helps fill the wheel better instead of being a 4th red-is thing, and it still looks like a carnaval so it kinda works. over all spot on
That one was tough to settle on! I feel that a lot of people get caught up in individual portrayals of certain fears and lose sight of the forest for the trees, you know? (It’s why I prefer the names of Choke, Viscera, and Beholding to the Buried, the Flesh, and the Eye-conveys the meaning without leading the mind to a specific image.) Wrt teal, I chose it because it’s one of those colors that doesn’t quite fit into categories (in this case of green or blue). I ultimately went with teal over other such colors because I wanted Beholding to be green, thereby making it a corruption of “knowing” and thereby of familiarity.

This is absolutely insane. I literally don’t know what to say, the insane amount of effort this had to have taken blows me away. Each one of your character designs are unique and really fit each character (in my opinion; especially loved your Jon), but what really gets me is how /expressive/ everyone is, and how unique each person’s body language is to themselves. Gerry’s dramatic hair flips especially, ha- but seriously, you really show off the contrast between the “nonchalant but really done with everything” mood Gerry has, and Jon’s “I’m nervous and also kinda vulnerable here” thing he’s got going on. You could literally see it in their postures- Jon’s hunched over, most of how he expresses is in his face/maybe his arms, while it’s almost like Gerry is straight up moving his whole body for every emotion, ha. Hell, /everyone /moved/ so much: I expected this to be more of a collection of stills (which still would have been impressive, for this length of audio), but holy hell this blurs the line between “animatic” and “low fps animation.” And the bits of color, oh man. I loved stained glass Gerry, that was amazing! And the bits of humor (the skull during Gerry explaining the fears got me!) were unobtrusive but fun. I could seriously go on about this for awhile, and I wouldn’t be surprised if I returned to this comment to add more of what I liked, but all in all, this is insanely impressive in more ways than just the length, and I really appreciate that you took the time to create a visual representation of this episode. Especially since you picked up on the bits that I put the most effort into (i.e. thoughtful character design/expression, TMA's ever-present but understated humor). I figured out how to adjust color opacity in Storyboarder about a quarter of the way into this and went mad with power XD;;; It wasn't *quite* good enough to get Jon's skintone and Jonah's hair where I wanted them (I headcanon Jon as being in that uncomfortable in-between where he faces colorism from both sides of the equation, Jonah came out much blonder than I wanted), but it did let me indulge my weakness for the vanitas genre ^^; Comment away!
