CAN THEY BEAT? 20 SHERMAN FIREFLY vs 10 TIGERS
ฝัง
- เผยแพร่เมื่อ 28 ก.ย. 2024
- Tiger vs Sherman Firefly is one of those scenarios we've done a long time ago but today it's time to refresh that in a slightly new way. The story begins with British airborne troops, who just landed to hostile territory. They need to secure their surround and hold it till the armoured division arrives which apparently is late. Germans, however, are aware of their enemy activity on the area and prepare to assault. They're joined by heavy panzer division located mile away and they will arrive shortly to sow some chaos.

I like how the Tigers did exactly what they should have done in this situation, especially angling their hulls.
Tough it was absolutely cruel to put M5 Stuart tanks up against them at the beginning. Though I'm not sure if they could be carried by glider, unlike those fiendish M22 Locust tanks.
Well they were initially fighting only infantry then the Tigers showed up so... yep.
I think Stuarts are small enough to fit in those gliders, although It was the Tetrarch that initially used for airborne operations
Pssst...Watch the video m8 greyhound vs tiger ii and you'll see
Dont think the Tigers did anything right tbh. Im surprised they won. In realistic terms In think the Tigers would have backed off as soon as they saw the first firefly that close. They always used range to there advantage in the war. Unless it is a shite commander in charge :)
@@strazly4525 nah... they did ok... wait till you see what Michael wittman did by his lone Tiger 1 to a column of US/brits tanks and armored vehicle in one encounter
It would probably play out that way if the Sherman's were actually stupid enough to go straight at them like it was the charge of the light brigade.
Phil Burton that’s actually a misconception. The chieftains hatch has video on it where he talks about these misconceptions.
I see that your crededentials were that one memoir that shouldnt be named. And fury
Can you please do NATO vs Warsaw Pact 1985?
Before I get started, very cool video.
Couple of issues
1) according to German doctrine, Armour typically stopped to fire.
2) the guns on both tanks could kill each other in one shot.
3) I can’t think of any time that I’ve read about was there 20 Fireflies in one place. a British tank company typically had 11-14 regular Shermans and 3-4 Fireflies. Why so few? Fireflies lose the hull MG because of the size of the OQF 17pdr round. Also, Fireflies normally don’t bother carrying non-armour piercing rounds. So no anti-Infantry high explosive or the like.
In short the regular Shermans are generalist vs the Fireflies anti-armour specialists.
1) Tiger's stop when the Sherman's arrived,
2) That's not true, it depends where the sherman shoot. Also ricochets, because Germans positioning
3) I don't know
Every shot from a tank did not kill other tanks. There were misses and bounces. If you look real hard on youtube you will find some of those military historian channels. One of them goes over what German commanders reported from various field gun and tank units using 75 and 88mm guns. Average number of shots per claimed tank kill was anywhere between 6 and 30 shells. So, they did not all kill each other in one shot.
1) can't answer to this one. 2) I'd have to disagree, there were lots of misses especially with tanks moving and poor visibility and at close range they just bore sighted. but accuracy does matter in all the battle chaos. 3) 100% agree with you. sherman firefly was a tank killer and sprinkled across tank units. they wouldn't clump them together like this video.
Name: Tiger tank
Qualifications: eat sherman for breakfast
Yah yah haha.
Taha nu....... Gold !!!!

Taha, Nu Sherman is a tasty snack for them 😂
Is sherman fail product??
Finite number of (granted)well engineered Tigers, infinite number of Sherman Fireflies.Firefly win.suck it up Cat fans
Thing is that many more allied tanks could be produced than that of the Germans so even if they won this battle they really lost
creapsmantic ( they still break down )
To put what youve said to other perspective.....its cheaper to build toyota prius than a bugatti chiron, yet in every other way, the bugatti chiron is a sight to behold, unlike the mass-produced toyota prius and in every other way, the chiron is better built, more complex to build and much much more expensive to build, yet its a sight to behold
Mana Chan Comparing a Chiron to a Tiger with better built doesn’t make much sense
@@Mana-Chann You're comparing tanks to cars.
The Tiger was nothing more that a defensive tank as it was always either breaking down or running out of fuel because Germany lacked it.
The Sherman was far more reliable, easier to repair, had a gun stabilizer, it was easier to transfer it to multiple fronts and upgrade it easier.
@@nicholasg5714
Well...I could agree with the better build quality of the sherman and the quite more advance mechanism in the sherman but....what would you rather look, a sherman or a tiger?
.
.
And of course youll say a sherman, but in your mind, its always the tiger
Historically, the Tigers would have taken a much worse mauling from the 17 pounders on those Sherman Fireflies than what you see here. While it's true that the Sherman's armor was no match for the Tiger, the Germans feared the 17 pounder on the Firefly as it could and did, regularly destroy Mark IV Panzers and Tiger I's. In any tank engagement the Germans always went after the Fireflies first, prompting the Brits to hide them at the rear of the column.
You could angle in the Sherman with the square haul and the Sherman jumbo cause armor could bounce long 88 as well

The shoemaker that defeated Michael Wittman: we just need SHOES not damn tanks!
In reality the Firefly would never charge a Tiger. Instead they would take up position just under a mile away and remove each Tiger with surgical precision.

The m4 firefly uses a m412 chassis
Why the firefly can't priece tiger armor?
Most of the time it does pierce but because of Firefly AP ammunition does not have HE filler in it, it can take numerous shots to destroy the tank and kill its crew.
Shermans are no match against the 10 tigers
Actually in this battle there will be a lot of soldiers died in a tank there's so many sherman tanks was destroyed those surviving shermans will destroy the tiger tank.

In real life, there's more M26 units when compared to Tiger I units.
Rnl Valen *IS-2
No, M26 started to serve at the end of the war, like the British comet, they did not have too many fights. They did fight against some German panzer such as Panther.
The video is about the Anglo-Canadian, their most powerful tank in 1944 Normandy is a Firefly, or basically every tank with a 17pdr. (M10 Achilles is terrible because of the turret turning rate, and A30 Challenger is also a terrible tank design, so basically, Sherman firefly) A 17pdr can penetrate a tiger or panther in the front at a range above 800m (it is on the data, but not in the reality)
At the same time, US had a hard time, because they basically had no tank to fight against German Panther. When they started to encounter panther during the Operation Cobra, almost every US tank units equipped 75mm sherman. US did have the chance to choose the new 76 sherman, but they did not. After slaughtered by panther tanks, US started to adopt more and more 76mm Sherman, and even asked Britons to produce firefly for them. (A bill for 100 firefly, but the Britons did not have enough for their own, so US did not get much after all.) For then, US started to bring more powerful AT role tank into their service, such as m36 Jackson and m4a3e8, or later M26.
Basically, M26 did not see that much action during WW2.
In der Realität hätten die Fireflys, auf diese Entfernung und frontal, kaum einen Tiger zerstören können.
firefly would penetrate the king tigers and tigers even from the front, the firefly can penetrate up to 256mm at the range of 1000 metre with sabot rounds

An American marked tank in a *british* battle?
*well that’s not my cup of tea*
lol
Dude, allies used the same american mark during the war so they recognised each other
The Stuart or the Firefly?
The Firefly is an updated Sherman the 75 pounder was installed after the US main version can't Penetrat an tiger 1 in front. The only thing there is the range German gunners start shooting between 2 - 1 km there was the accuracy from other nations not that good 100 shells on 1500m shotted and 45% - 60% hitting on German side on the over side only about 30% but the German tanks Penetrat the US or UK not
The American STAR was used on most Allied vehicles fighting in the West. It was meant to help Allied aircraft distinguish friend from foe and reduce instances of "friendly fire". NOT all British armor used the STAR. Also, same markings were used on Allied vehicles during the Korea War. Unfortunately, that BIG WHITE STAR was an excellent aiming point for enemy gunners.
The tigers were usually waiting for the Shermans to advance which gave them a benefit.
Nope
Dang, I come back to this channep after 2 years and your conetent has really improved from no camera work to epic cinematic stuff, great job!
Welcome back!
17pdrs failing to pen a barely angled tiger.... Riiiiight
The angle gave the Tiger I more armor...
ur mom probably game physics. Direct hit goes through. Slightly angled bounces, I don’t know.
@Megas Pantelos Not really. Sherman Fireflies with their 17 pdr can literally roast a Tiger.
@@richieThach on 700meters. Not 1km looks like tiger
Phil Burton They weren’t despite what that one memoir told you. It was actually much easier to get out of a burning or disabled M4 Sherman than any other counterpart tank. Plus by late war, they stowed their ammo in wet stowages, which greatly decreased the chance of the ammo catching on fire
Warfare Gaming add a scenario with Japanese kamikaze planes Trying to crash onto a ship with anti aircraft guns and try to survive until aircraft reinforcements came
Would be awesome
That's a pretty specific request that would last no longer than 30 seconds. I rather see that scene part of some bigger scenario so there it's a possibility for sure
@@warfare11gaming How about the yamato ship getting torpedoed and shot by american Bombers and fighters?
Fun fact, those wave patterns on the fireflys gun was actually an attempt to conceal the long gun, in the hopes that from a distance it would look like a normal sherman... They also occasionally put a fake muzzle half way down the barrel.
They did this because the Germans quickly knew that a sherman with the normal 75mm gun wasn't much danger to a tiger or a panther, but the 76mm or 17 pounder guns that were longer with the muzzle on the end were dangerous, so theyd take those out first.
Tiger the best!
Yeah
Until it breaks down.
@@mistermarius3815 their economy and fuel would be non existent
@@mistermarius3815 They would have lost the war early, since no one in the right mind drains all their resources on a thank gets easily outmaneuvered by Shermans or Greyhounds
@@mistermarius3815 Maybe the problem was that Tiger took around 120 000$ to build, while Sherman Firefly took around 50 000$ (and US had better industrial capability) and both tanks were able to penetrate each other from around 1km (800m for US and ??? for Germany). Another fact is that usually if shell penetrated Sherman, then it would kill 1-2 guys and rest would just bail out. Meanwhile Tigers were known to blown up if shell (even indirectly) hit ammo storage, which wasn't the case in M4 Sherman.
The German tank crews were highly trained. Also the shermans would usually be advancing whilst the tigers would usually be defending giving them the advantage.
The crew depends on the year. The Tiger came out in 43, which was when Germany was on the backfoot. This meant less training time, less ergonomics, lower quality metal on the Tiger, underpowered engines and so on and so forth. The Fireflies on the other hand could EASILY penetrate the frontal hull or turret armor of the Tiger 1. Yes, the angling made a great deal of difference, but historically not enough of a difference. If you have evidence to debunk me, please tell me, but I have a feeling you can't
The tiger 1 was first used in 1942 in north africa and in leningrad
Malarkey, Firefly has higher penetration versus 88; what mattered was who had the drop first.
T L... yep, 17 pounder was overall a better gun, although most game producers still follow the erroneous folk-tale that nothing was ever better or could outmatch the Flak 88 family.
17 pounder penetration at 1500 meters,88 could take out a Sherman at 2000.
Doesnt the 88mm have more explosive filler?
@@danno1ize yep
@@danno1ize The 17 pounders APDS round could penetrate 162mm of armor at 3000 meters so.. The Tiger 1 had what? 100mm of armor on it's upper front plate and between 90 and 120mm on the front of it's turret. Double that 1500 for the 17 pounder and you got it.

Love the intro and the buildup of the action. Instead of an arena type battle it starts like a storry battle
Probably the most British thing said in this video
"Gunner wake the fuck up we're on patrol"
I don't agree. The Sherman firefly is equal to the Tiger I or even better. The Tiger's armor advantage is useless since the 17 pounder could still punch through from more than 1km away, so I'd choose the faster and more mobile tank.

Completely biased. I actually knew a tiger tank crew member (deceased now) the tank had many mechanical issues and the overlapping wheels caused many problems
RexXflash Haha, nowhere near to the Jerry. LOL, are u talking about the burning panther tank engine from 1942-1943? German tank is well protected, for some, but Panther Tiger and Tiger II were never the main force. If u r talking about panzer IV, sorry, they are nothing better than sherman. Start to learn about the cost and reliability about a tank.
Keep in mind that U.S. Armor doctrine was different than Germany's. Also, all tanks had to be shipped overseas and unloaded with what equipment was on hand. U.S. opted for a smaller, lighter tank that would give good service and was easy to transport. They had a hell of a time when they tried shipping Pershings later in the war because of their size and weight.
@RexXflash thats funny Rex! P-51 was superior to everything it faced except the ME-262 and there were few of them and they still shot it down. B-17 and B-24 were far superior to any bomber the Germans fielded during the war. P-47 was superior to most German fighters except a chosen few that saw limited service. These are all examples of the Americans inferior engineering. Maybe the U.S tanks weren't the best, but they were far more reliable than the Germans they faced, half of whom broke down before getting to be battlefield.
@@patrickmccrann991 They were also designed in width so that 3 instead of 2 could be fitted for transport
