    This video was basically a huge flex on Tom's part, i'd argue Mark gave more value, only thing we got from Tom was that somewhat shallow advice at the end, and that he got lucky, twice, once with being basically born into car flipping, and another being finding a loophole, of which likely don't exist today.
    I credit the loophole finding to luck, because i doubt Tom was staying up for days on end trying to figure out how to game the system.
    I do appreciate the honesty, and the video was beautiful and inspirational, but not super educational.

    • @marktilbury
      @marktilbury  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, I wanted the video to inspire any one that it’s possible to do better. You can put many things in life down to luck but in my opinion you have to put yourself in the position to take advantage of that luck when it comes along. My hope in making all my videos is that they inspire and then everyone can level up, maybe not to the level Tom has but if you could double your income then life is a nicer place. Tom is very proud of his achievements but I had to pull the stories out of him so it’s not about flexing. I want to do more rags to riches stories because that’s what inspired me when I was younger to make something of my life. Thanks for watching MT 🤔

    • @marktilbury
      @marktilbury  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Karl, unfortunately not everyone can have a great experience, selling a car to a dealer is never really a great experience as you know they have to buy low enough to make a profit. What they do say is they will offer you cash today and for some in a hurry this is a good way to sell or part exchange. I prefer to take my time and sell for as much as possible so for me selling to a dealer is not a good option . Buying however is a completely different thing and I would not hesitate to buy a car from these guys. Thanks for your thought provoking comment. MT 😎

I feel I missed out on all the stock opportunities so far for the tech stocks. I believe having 75K yearly income would be a good investment so I want to plug all my savings into the stock market. I know this sounds a bit dull but I would like to know if I should learn investing or let somebody else (more capable like a FA) do it for me? Please share your thoughts. Should any 12 year old budding entrepreneurs wish to emulate Mr Hartley..... well he's right about 250 quid being a lot of money in 1971, as the strap bar shows. It also means you need to visit an auction, aged 12, with £32,575, possibly plus hammer fees and not get ripped off. A little while later, aged 14 you drive your Rolls. Good luck with driving your uninsured, unlicensed car past today's ANPR systems. Imagine what a no licence and insurance conviction would do to today's 17 year old motor traders business policy costs. Then aged 14 or 15 you import 10 to 15 cars a week. Your going to need a dodge here too; none of this can be on any credit, because children can't get any commercial credit. So somewhere in the preceding 3 years you need to have done enough sucessful deals to be able to stump up for 10 to 15 new cars. Aged 16. On your own. And if you owned a transport company and a kid phoned up for three car transporters return trip to Germany... do you think there may be some poetic licence in the whole 'self made' bit. Do you suppose there might be just a tiny little bit of family backing somewhere in this story. Or did someone really loan a boy 1950 quid in 1971, knowingly pass up 250 quid profit, not demand a return on the loaned money, help with the logistics because he cant drive legally, and hasn't the skills to fix the Range Rover if its crashed. Nor can the asset be insured by the 12 yo purchaser. And theres no legal recourse if these truly remarkable deal terms go wrong..... Perhaps the teacher was mistaken; perhaps it was fatigue from the worlds longest paper round that was affecting school.

      Hi, these are all the reasons not to make it in 2022 how about making a list of all the advantages you have now such as, mobile phones, the internet, Digital products, eBay, websites and a better education. We can all make a list of why it’s unfair and why I can’t make it. Those that make it ,toss the excuse list in the bin 🗑 . Thanks for watching, time to write that list and take action. MT 😎

    • @2639263926392639
      @2639263926392639 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@marktilbury The above isn't an excuse, it's a much needed dose of reality. Hartley asserts he is a self made man. Starting at 12 years old with the equivalent of 32 thousand pounds, and offering no acknowledgement of the rare and highly supported circumstances he must have been in is disingenuous. Its conceivable I am wrong and Hartley started at 5 years old and generated a few pence, then through reinvestment and hard work turned this into 1950 pounds in 7 years. If that is the case; I doff my cap unreservedly. But he'd have said, with some considerable volume. It's not self made if your benefitting from the finances of elders or inter generational windfall. End of. This in no way degenerates the work and wherewithal to carry sucess therafter. But, you appear to be suggesting that if someone wishes to emulate Hartley then positive thinking is the primary resource. Granted it's most valuable, however any financier on any commercial arrangement is going to want to see a realistic way of repayment, or some security. This is all fine with some track record but it always comes with a price, something you and Hartley appear to be wilfully overlooking. Times have changed, Hartley achieved business sucess by numerous transgressions of the law- he states this himself - by admitting to driving under age. Import loop holes might show up stridently in the era of the omni computer too. The elder generation have enacted laws that prevent this route being utilised so readily. Some crime does pay, even if its just avoiding motor vehicle insurance costs until old enough to actually hold a licence. This is in no way being negative; loads of business's need to sail close to the wind until, the term is being 'established' isnt it? This reflects reality. Buy the most needed, and keep your head down until.... Without finances the first deal cant happen unless your very lucky. Anyone of any age who repeated this projection of a sucess story is going to fail and you must know it... because you can't pay for Range Rover's with a list of positive mental attitude, not now, not in '71 and not tomorrow or could you point me in the direction of sources of unsecured loans devoid of repayment costs please. I get it also, you recieve income as well as networking value from positive content so maybe it's not in your interest to throw rocks at stories. Your respectful critic, Andy.

    Nice interview.
    Yes, the UK seems to have plenty of jealous people. You're not allowed to be rich or be on the road to getting rich. It's pathetic, really, but it shows that many people would rather complain about rich people getting richer than to do something about their own financial situation and become rich themselves.

    • @SeaJayBelfast
      @SeaJayBelfast ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@SeaJayBelfast Thanks for your reply.
      Opinions differ.
      What happened to the people who still say that "money is the root of all evil", or "money doesn't buy happiness"? I remember being told that as a child, and what we learn as children tends to become a strong belief that gets taught to the next generation. Thankfully, I am more mentally prepared these days not to fall for such tosh.
      Oh dear. There' aren't many things more 'overt' than buying a brightly-coloured supercar. Erm, well, perhaps a yacht or a nice jet plane, a big home, and expensive clothes.
      Every day, there are comments on various media from people complaining about how the rich keep on getting richer, and that the rich should pay more to the government's coffers. They already do pay more, and more people need to find out how they too can pay less. But, as I mentioned, they prefer to complain and do nothing, and then waste a few more hours watching TikTok rubbish. Yep, the poor keep watching their favourite 'richer' creators get richer.

      @SkilfulLeader1 ปีที่แล้ว

      In all fairness, thats very accurate. I was brought up with the same traditions, old fashioned values. Now 18 years in what I love doing and constantly educating myself has paid off. I believe the wise get richer and poorer just keep spending and living above their means and complaining. We’re all faced with choices and i guess it all comes down to how much you put in to achieve something better!.

    • @longrolstral
      @longrolstral ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SkilfulLeader1 Indeed. Many people moan about budgets and how they favour the rich. The thing is, who employs the overspending poor? Not the poor, that's for sure.

    From knowing these people you start to realise that we allow money to define “success” far too easily ; it also has no bearing on you as a person, there are people who vile and rich and I have zero respect for them. There are incredibly humble people who are rich.
