I’m Chinese Malaysian, grew up with South Indian food as there’s a lot of South Indians in Malaysia. Sometimes We eat South Indian food for breakfast, lunch, dinner and supper!

Remember that Bumbay word came from one of your cities in India, which is Bombay. If you have bad experience in the Philippines then kindly elaborate. I don't find Indian people as rude like you... Indian businessmen or tourists alike in my country are friendly and they easy to learn our language. They are known for their lending money with interest business and we called it "5-6" . Don't generalized Filipinos that are racists to Indians because fyi most of your Indian countrymen were married to Filipina.
@Rugved Risbud malaysia is a country where we treat all race equally and malaysia is a multiracial country means we have 3 main races which are the malays, chinese and then the indians. This are the majority race around the country. a suggestion for you is to visit KL(the capital) penang. at KL you can meet alot of people and the cities are big and in penang the cities are big too but the food in penang(indian,chinese or malay food) are always the best tasting throughout the country

Pani puri, bhelpuri, normal Puri and pulao and pav bhaji is North Indian food but nowadays this foods are also became so famous in southern part of India🙂

The word "Chai" means tea. So, "CHAI TEA" means tea tea. You either say tea or chai.
chai means tea for us indians cuz thats our default go to 🤷♂️
But they have lots of variety of teas in west, so 'chai' is specific one for them 🤔

I'm a European living in India and I can never get bored of Indian food. Just travel 50km in any given direction and the cuisine changes. it will take you a year at least to rotate through all the Indian cuisines, and once you're done you can start fresh :p

Finally! South Indian food. Been waiting for this forever.
Growing up in south India, we had idli, Dosa, rava and Bonda for breakfast.
If you want spicy Dosa, you gotta go for mysore masala dosa. It’s spicy and mad delicious.
But masala dosa Originated in UDUPI
Mysuru ppl just add a spice called gunpowder or chatni pudi
Prathap Poojary ...and thats why it’s call MYSORE masala dosa. We add our own twist to it and make it spicy the way we like. The reason why I suggested mysore masala was cuz they were talking about spiciness not where it was originated.
Udupi is beautiful city with delicious cuisine and ppl should definitely try the original ☺️

I grew up in mysore district and to me, Mysore masala dosa is spiciest! And yes! Masala Dosa is tulu cuisine and last time I checked Udupi falls under tulu region. Over all, it’s still in Karnataka and we all love masala dosa!
Anyways... ya keep comparing while I go enjoy my garam chai with some bonda with coconut chutney. And please don’t tell me it’s not South Indian thang.
Shoutout to Vivek for putting us South Indians on the forefront. He really brought out some really insightful points and to be very honest, the perception of Indians in the West is mostly based on North Indians. Every part of India is different, South India is way different from the North- not just the language, the food, the people, lifestyle- everything is different. What is important to North Indians may not be as important to the South Indians. Its important to understand that.

Saying Chai tea is redundant. Chai literally means tea.
Chai and Tea come from Chinese words Cha and Te. So Indians don't get to have a say in this. Chai tea is good term, because the drink is called Chai/Shoy/Cha in many other countries and languages.

Indians pretend that Tea is called Chai everywhere in India. But in Tamil Nadu it is called Tenir, which comes from the Chinese word for Tea "Te". Chai also comes from Chinese word Cha. So it is good that it is called Chai Tea, specifically Indian Chai Tea, because we wouldn't be leaving out Tamils.

Nice y'all! We have a lot of South Indian food here in the Bay Area (South Bay mostly) - def a whole different world of flavors, dude. I know other commenters have pointed it out, but I've also heard that Toronto has a huge amount of South Indian & Sri Lankan food :)
Indian restaurants have been popping up around the GTA(Greater Toronto Area). Hopefully, they can survive with all the lockdowns.
The Sri Lankan food you're talking about is mostly Srilankan Tamil which is quite similar to food from Tamil Nadu in India.
There is even some Goan/Mangalorean (Grew up eating this) food but it's mostly in Mississauga.
Vivek is very good in explaining things.
The thing with Indian food is, it changes from district to district let alone state to state. So distributing Indian food to North and South is just not enough one has to go state by state at least.

Great video guys. I'm from Durban, South Africa which has one of the highest Indian populations outside of India. We even have special Indian dishes you can only find there. Loved the video. My fav South Indian dish in the vid are dosa's and samoosa's.

The word Wala is used in Mumbai in Marathi language. It is a masculine verb. The chai wala means man who serves tea. Another example is ice cream wala, which means server of ice cream. BTW you guys are awesome. Love your videos.

sooo good to hear someone mention Lagaan, it was one of my favorite movies. The food sooo good. Interesting the commentary on names. I am first American in my family easy name but my family has so many different pronunciations. I learned to not take my name so seriously. I remember when I traveled through SEA people kept calling me Miss instead of Mish, learned to roll with it. I guess I don't get so worked up at all granted I have some friends who have taken on American names and now go by them and I still call them by their Chinese or traditional names. I am bad with name changes. Dosasssssssdroool

There ar so many south indian restaraunts in nyc..check out Murray hill Indian street, you will find Saravana Bhavan, Anjappar, Deccan spice, Chennai garden, pongal.....some of these restaurants are straight from india having branches in usa.... this is not the only south indian restrnt in NYC!!!!

We have lot of other south Indian dishes other than dose and idly. This list is only from karnataka- Shavige bath, akki rotti, ragi rotti, uppit or upma or kharabath,kesari bath, sambar, majjige huli, tambuli, Mangalore bajji, kolbade, maddur vade, churmuri, mysore pak, puliyogare, onion chitranna. Please do try these dishes as well.
North mean not only= punjab . In North india have many state they have own teast of food. I m from uttar pradesh our state mainly known as for sweet. I love all kind of vegetarian food. I feel proud on southern india guy. He known our culture and beautifully describe. I love this guy

Khiladi is one of my fav south Indian restaurant in Manhattan, I absolutely love that place! but sorry Khiladi and Ahimsa are not the only south Indian restaurants in Manhattan! I would say, they cater more to the American crowd. If you would like a more authentic experience, Saravanaa Bhavan and Adyar Ananda Bhavan are famous south Indian restaurants from India that have branches in New York :) Do try them too next time!

I am a South Indian in specific Tamilan with origin from kanyakumari for breakfast we prepare the following in our home usually in daily cycle : majority of dishes are made with rice as main ingredient or variety of cereals and pulses but not wheat, barley or oats.
Generaly most of the dishes are paired with sambar or pudina (mint) chutney or tomato chutney or kara chatney (main ingredient is red chillies), or onion chutney or peanut chutney or coconut chutney or corriander (cilantro) chutney or curry leave chutney or have idly podi whichis usuallymixed with ghee or gingerly oil or coconut oil or vegetable oil ( powder made up of variety of lentils, dried red chillies, powdered curry leaves, garlic powder, salt).

4. Uthapam - just like a thick pan cake (just like dosa has lot of varaities.)
5. Appam - kind of baked (just like dosa has lot of varaities)
6. Puttu - steamed food (can made with any kind of grains but prominently using rice. It is not served with chutney but with papadam, green gram, chick pea curry or banana.)
7. Upma - boiled (made of rava generally)
8. Idiappam - steamed (made of rice, looks a littlelike rice noodles due to texture)
9. Kichdi - boiled (mix of rava, vegies ond spices)
10. Adai - form of pan cake but made with half grinded batter.
11. Puri kilangu - fried wheat bread
12. Vadai - fried (Medu vadai, kerra vadai, parupu vadai, vazha poo vadai)
13. Bonda - fried (rice and lentils bonda, onion bonda, potato bonda)
14. Paniyaram - kind of baked (paniyarams can be made plain, spiced or sweet)
15. Parrota and kothu parotta are generally not ate in breakfast but for dinner
16. Parrota - made of maida and texture comes in layers generally served with salna( stew) or any meat curry(chicken, mutton or any other)
17. Kothu parrota - parrota in made in pieces and spiced up.
18. Chilly parrota - just like kothu parrota
Other than the regularly made ones:
19. Uppu urundai - steamed ( not a very prominent breakfast in all parts of the state)
20. Aval - cannot be specified since ot can be consumed in various forms
21. Neer dosai - made with watery batter
22. Vivikam - sweeted idlies
These are only which came to my mind and few more would have been left.
23. Kollukatai - similar to momos and dumblings (but also comes with sweet version)
Tami'zha'n, Ko'zhu'kattai, my advice to Tamilians, please clean your tongue daily using a tongue cleaner. Then you will be able to pronounce 'zha'
@@Shrike6699 i pity for the people who can't pronounce Tamil in real time and the people who can't understand the difference between "ண, ன, ந" "ர, ற" and i really don't know how people confuse "ழ, ள" with "ல".
Not for the ones who complain for typing the pronunciation of "zha" "la" in English, actually Tanglish.
