@@Awakeningspirit20 yes that's about right. In the end, God the Father is and will be through all, in all as Paul tells us. The burning fire of Gehenna, the blessed fire of the Holy Spirit given at baptism and pentecost, and the purifying fire which burns the unconsumed bush on the mountain are the same fire. Jesus the Christ tells us the wheat will be separated from the chaff, and the chaff will be burnt up. When His fire purifies you on judgment, if you are only chaff you will be consumed by the fire. What this means is a mystery (which the Orthodox tend to leave alone), but doubtless it is unpleasant, yet it is for the end of your purity and the purity of God and His Kingdom. If you are all wheat, you will be unconsumed in the fire as the burning bush, endlessly renewed in the love of Christ. The symbolism is something like this-I am but a layman, please forgive me. As St. Paul says: "For who makes you different from anyone else? What do you have that you did not receive? And if you did receive it, why do you boast as though you did not?"
If you are a Lutheran, your religion was founded by Martin Luther, an ex-monk of the Catholic Church, in the year 1517. If you belong to the Church of England, your religion was founded by King Henry VIII in the year 1534 because the Pope would not grant him a divorce with the right to re-marry. If you are a Presbyterian, your religion was founded by John Knox in Scotland in the year 1560. If you are a Congregationalist, your religion was originated by Robert Brown in Holland in 1582. If you are Protestant Episcopalian, your religion was an offshoot of the Church of England, founded by Samuel Senbury in the American colonies in the 17th century. If you are a Baptist, you owe the tenets of your religion to John Smyth, who launched it in Amsterdam in 1606. If you are of the Dutch Reformed Church, you recognize Michelis Jones as founder because he originated your religion in New York in 1628. If you are a Methodist, your religion was founded by John and Charles Wesley in England in 1774. If you are a Mormon (Latter Day Saints), Joseph Smith started your religion in Palmyra, New York, in 1829. If you worship with the Salvation Army, your sect began with William Booth in London in 1865. If you are Christian Scientist, you look to 1879 as the year in which your religion was born and to Mary Baker Eddy as its founder. If you belong to one of the religious organizations known as "Church of the Nazarene, Pentecostal Gospel," "Holiness Church," or "Jehovah's Witnesses," your religion is one of the hundreds of new sects founded by men within the past hundred years. If you are Roman Catholic, your church shared the same rich apostolic and doctrinal heritage as the Orthodox Church for the first thousand years of its history, since during the first millennium they were one and the same Church. Lamentably, in 1054, the Pope of Rome broke away from the other four Apostolic Patriarchates (which include Constantinople, Alexandria, Antioch and Jerusalem), by tampering with the Original Creed of the Church, and considering himself to be infallible. Thus your church is 1,000 years old. If you are Orthodox Christian, your religion was founded in the year 33 by Jesus Christ, the Son of God. It has not changed since that time. Our church is now almost 2,000 years old. And it is for this reason, that Orthodoxy, the Church of the Apostles and the Fathers is considered the true "one Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church." This is the greatest legacy that we can pass on to the young people of the new generation....
Even if the idea that it was the pope who broke with the rest of the patriarchies was correct, the Roman Catholic church would still be the same age as the Orthodox churches. In that case, we would have broken with the patriarchies 1000 years ago, but it would have emerged in the same year as yours. 33 AD. Christ our Lord bless you. But there is only one truth.

The pretty fascinating story of why we Catholics do it from left to right: In the 13th century, Pope Innocent III (a contemporary of St. Francis of Assisi) instructed the faithful on the meaning of the sign of the cross along these lines: "We make the sign of the cross with three fingers, because in making it we invoke the Holy Trinity. Here is how it is made: from the top to the bottom, and from the right side to the left side, because Christ descended from heaven to earth, and from the Jews (right side) passed to the Gentiles (left side)." So, in the 13th century, the sign of the cross was made the same way in the East and the West. The Pope, however, went on to say: "Others, however, make the sign of the cross from left to right, because from futility (left side) we must pass to glory (right side), just as Christ passed from death to life and from Hell to Paradise. [Some priests] make the sign of the cross in such a way that both they and the faithful move their hand in the same direction." This is easy to check - just imagine a priest facing the people when giving a blessing. Innocent III writes further, "when we make the sign of the cross over the faithful, we make it from left to right." So the people, imitating the movements of the priest, began to cross themselves in the opposite direction. Anyways, centuries have passed since then, and as the tradition has strengthened, we in the West make the sign of the cross from left to right. Not that we can't do it the other way around :) God bless, Orthodox brothers!
I was raised roman catholic and converted to Christ when I was fifteen, have follow and learn from the protestant tradition the love for the bible and the preaching while living in a relationship with my Lord and Savior for more than twenty years, I dont wear a cross but I dont have a problem to do so but its not vital to my faith, sometimes I do the sign of the cross with conviction and reverence. Christianity is bigger than creeds, confesions, synods, denominations, east and west. Christ Jesus is the King and his Light is and will fill whole the earth.
United but doing different things, not really. You should look at one thing: who is the first church. What were the first rules and who respect them. The first ones got their teachings from the Christ himself, from apostles etc. Everything else that was changed from the first centuries is heresy. That means the Catholic church is heresy, protestant is heresy, even if like it or not.
As a Catholic I pray that Our Lord will undo the schism and bring our two Churches together. I also pray that our lost protestant brothers and sisters will return. There is corruption in the Church, no doubt, but more-so a reason not to abandon it. We must fight to purge it of the enemies of Christ together.
Love my orthodox Christian brothers. I’m glad we’ve gotten so far in talks between our leaders. I hope we one day join together in communion again. Your struggle is our struggle
@@AzureSymbiote Wrong, wrong, wrong... there's no apostolic tradition in these false teaching churches. Just diabolical indoctrination of false religion. An Orthodox priest (with black vestments, religious paraphernalia, ultra-rituals) claims to be the representative of “the religion of Christ” or “the church of Christ Jesus.” But, in reality, Jesus will “spit” this religion out of His mouth (to use the Lord’s figurative expression-Revelation 3:14-15). It is far, far removed from the ways of God found in the new covenant Scriptures. Thus, not only is the priest spiritually deceived and under God’s judgment, but Orthodox priests around the world lead several hundred million followers to Hades and then Hell (Luke 16:19-31; Revelation 21:8)! Where's Luther, Zwingli, Calvin & Knox?
I am a Baptist, but I admire my Catholic and orthodox brethren. We are all one family under God. The main focus should be on living better and following the word of God. Death was defeated at the cross, and our shame and sin washed clean with the blood of Christ. For we are brothers and sisters in him 🙏
As a catholic we and our othodox brothers and sisters should again unite and reform the Holy Catholic Orthodox Church that Christ has formend. May god bless you ✝☦
No need to reform. You should go back to the roots, as it was before the great schism. What Orthodox church can do is to encourage you to make the right step towards that rightful path as it was in first centuries
I have always stated "Et Filli" with my hand over the center of my chest, the second part of your "In the name of the Father" movement, and "Et Spiritu" is the left shoulder "Sancti" is the right shoulder.
Fr. Seraphim, we say the sign of the cross first at the head, remembering the Father, then at the heart, remembering the Son and His love, and then at the shoulders remembering the Holy Spirit is our strength sent from the Father and the Son. We aren't thinking "Son" at the right shoulder. And going to the left is the natural movement of the arm up from the heart. Going to the right shoulder with the right hand seems awkward to us.
I converted from Catholic to Orthodox and you're right, the right hand to the right shoulder took a lot of getting used to. My understanding was that the priests were doing the right shoulder facing the congregation and they were mirroring him so ended up going left shoulder first. It was a slow development over time in the West. Not saying one way is better than the other.
This is what I was told long ago: the Roman Catholics cross themselves the other direction because the Father (head), then Son (abdomen), Spiritus (left shoulder/heart), Sanctus (right shoulder). It's due to the Latin and Italian languages putting the adjective after the noun.
I'm non-denominational Christian, the click bait is SO true, the enemy is mad cus Jesus took the keys of death and hades, it does made the devil mad 😂😂
The reason we Catholics cross our selves as we do is we go from head to our chest, father and son to symbolize Jesus descending to earth. then left to right to symbolize moving from the curse to blessing.
This short prayer is a "nuclear weapon" against our enemies ( spirits of evil, demons). We can say that prayer with our mouth if we're beginners. Then with our mind & last (the greatest achievement) with our heart! That's why this prayer called (heart's prayer or Jesus' prayer). It burns the heart! Pray in this way while you're working, walking, talking (not so easy), resting etc. Of course not only against temptations. Under every circumstances... All we are sinners, so we ask from our Father, Jesus Christ, the King of Heavens, to forgive his children.. Greetings from the city of St. Demetrius. Oρθοδοξία ή Θάνατος IC XC NI KA
we have a clear command from our holy fathers to keep the dogma pure, otherwise we will lose Christ, glory be to Jesus Christ that we did not fall into the heresy as all the others who say they have Christ have fallen. all sacraments are invalid for heretics, even baptism. Thanks jesus Christ who show me whitch is the truth faith.
As a Catholic I was taught by a Nun two ways When we Cup our right hand we are Bringing him in to us and the Trinity with the three fingers for the Stigmata , Hands and feet .
That’s absolutely disingenuous to say no one knows why Catholics go from left to right left is the symbol of sin and right is the symbol of redemption because we always remember we went from sin to redemption. That’s why Catholics make the sign of the cross in that fashion. 2:29

We need root out superstitions, no matter which church or faith we feel we belong to. Keep the truly good parts and never be prideful or sentimental to keep stuff just because of tradition. I dare any religious faith to have open and deep explorations with highly skilled esotericists and fearlessly start to investigate what is what. The more this is done and the deeper it is done, the more room for truth and grace to take hold of this fallen world.
Galatians 3:1 “O foolish Galatians, who hath bewitched you, that ye should not obey the truth, before whose eyes Jesus Christ hath been evidently set forth, CRUCIFIED among you?”
"who forbid marriage and require abstinence from foods" The Apostle Paul warned us about this anti-church. 1 Timothy 4:1-5 ESV - 1 Now the Spirit expressly says that in later times some will depart from the faith by devoting themselves to deceitful spirits and teachings of demons, 2 through the insincerity of liars whose consciences are seared, 3 who forbid marriage and require abstinence from foods that God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and know the truth. 4 For everything created by God is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving, 5 for it is made holy by the word of God and prayer. The Catholics do a little bit more of the forbidding of marriage and a little less of the requiring abstinence from food... but no one above the priests level in the Orthodox Church is allowed to be married.

@@LadyMaria It's why I'd like to also lol. Any holes from Catholicism I just fill with Orthodox wisdom haha, especially Coptic or Greek Orthodoxy.
May the peace of Christ be upon you.
I don’t really understand what y’all just said. What happens to the unbelievers? Are they not in eternal punishment (fire)? Or is their a form of purgatory? Do they eventually go to heaven?
I have mostly gone to Protestant churches, so I am coming from that perspective. I have hoped privately that there was some form of annihilation for unbelievers, because it feels like eternal punishment (literal or figurative fire) seems so cruel, I want to not believe in it.

And it is for this reason, that Orthodoxy, the Church of the Apostles and the Fathers is considered the true "one Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church." This is the greatest legacy that we can pass on to the young people of the new generation....
do orthodox people believe in transubstantiation?
Thank you for the information.
From Portugal, God bless
Even if the idea that it was the pope who broke with the rest of the patriarchies was correct, the Roman Catholic church would still be the same age as the Orthodox churches. In that case, we would have broken with the patriarchies 1000 years ago, but it would have emerged in the same year as yours. 33 AD. Christ our Lord bless you. But there is only one truth.
The Catholic church has an unbroken line of succession from St. Peter to Pope Francis, our church is 2000 years old.
The church was already divided after the 3rd & 4th council (Oriental Orthodoxy).

I condemn heresy and am proud to stand with you in shield wall of faith against the forces of evil and for the kingdom. This was cool to learn about from a Protestant background and also appreciated the clarity regarding appropriate appreciation for Mary. She was blessed for a reason and there is place for recognizing the heroes of faith without committing idolatry. Oh how the zeal in arrogance drives so many to heresy. May all our Christian brethren don the coif of humble mindedness beneath their helmet of salvation as we take the armor of light above our new garments. We must stand together... dark days are here, arrows incoming.

Blessed man is a hoot. Love him for his devotion.
The pretty fascinating story of why we Catholics do it from left to right:
In the 13th century, Pope Innocent III (a contemporary of St. Francis of Assisi) instructed the faithful on the meaning of the sign of the cross along these lines:
"We make the sign of the cross with three fingers, because in making it we invoke the Holy Trinity. Here is how it is made: from the top to the bottom, and from the right side to the left side, because Christ descended from heaven to earth, and from the Jews (right side) passed to the Gentiles (left side)."
So, in the 13th century, the sign of the cross was made the same way in the East and the West. The Pope, however, went on to say:
"Others, however, make the sign of the cross from left to right, because from futility (left side) we must pass to glory (right side), just as Christ passed from death to life and from Hell to Paradise. [Some priests] make the sign of the cross in such a way that both they and the faithful move their hand in the same direction."
This is easy to check - just imagine a priest facing the people when giving a blessing.
Innocent III writes further, "when we make the sign of the cross over the faithful, we make it from left to right."
So the people, imitating the movements of the priest, began to cross themselves in the opposite direction. Anyways, centuries have passed since then, and as the tradition has strengthened, we in the West make the sign of the cross from left to right. Not that we can't do it the other way around :) God bless, Orthodox brothers!
God bless!
I am Roman Catholic but I have deep respect for the Orthodox Church and I love this man.

Christianity is bigger than creeds, confesions, synods, denominations, east and west. Christ Jesus is the King and his Light is and will fill whole the earth.
I am a Protestant but I love and respect Orthodoxy so much✝️❤️☦️ we’re all United in Christ Amen

Catholic and Orthodox Churches have a lot in common when it comes to apostolic tradition.
As far as I am aware, they are the only Churches that have true Apostolic succession, and liturgy.
@@AzureSymbiote Oriental Orthodox and Assyrian church of the east are the other 2. 4 in total

Truly Orthodoxy is a Beautiful faith. The way
Not saying one way is better than the other.
stopping at the chest is making an upside down cross. go all the way down to the belly. I used to be RC
As Fr. pointed out, "it's ok': RCs conclude the sign on the right with the right hand and Christ is seated at the right hand of God.
@@IndyColts1987 I've heard that too. Going right to left is the only right way. And as MS-89 said, making a full right side up cross is only right.

"who forbid marriage and require abstinence from foods"
The Apostle Paul warned us about this anti-church.
1 Timothy 4:1-5 ESV -
1 Now the Spirit expressly says that in later times some will depart from the faith by devoting themselves to deceitful spirits and teachings of demons, 2 through the insincerity of liars whose consciences are seared, 3 who forbid marriage and require abstinence from foods that God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and know the truth.
