It's always the one I have seen the merit in. Musically interesting and sometimes with a touch of Zappa.. Something Kiss related I can actually listen to all the way through without feeling the need to throw something at it.. FYI I'm not a Kiss fan at all.. tired glam rock that should have been forgotten in the 70's IMHO but hey.. whatever.

Man, I love that video. You explain your points clearly and they make sense whether we agree or not. I've been a Kiss fan since around 1990 and I side with you on some of these. I have no problems with ''Beth 2'' (Psycho Circus was definitely trying to be Destroyer 2) and Odyssey really sounds like Paul was vocally prepping for The Phantom but I still like it. I remember hating Do you love me for a while but came around when Unplugged came out. My list would probably have Love em Leave em (don't care for it) and Love is like a slap in the face ( I think Hot in the shade would be a better album if Love is like a slap in the face, Read my body and maybe two others weren't on it.) I’m a sizeable KISS fan so figured I would chime in with my thoughts on some of your choices… I actually like Murder in High Heels and Dance All Over Your Face. But I have the opinion that The Elder would’ve made more sense if Manowar had recorded it 🤘🏻 (I admit though, I have only ever listened to that album once. Ever! I couldn’t bring myself to do it a second time) Anyway, as I said, interesting video. You got a new sub. Can’t wait to see what else you have done/will do next 👍🏻
I love “Dance All Over Your Face”. Great groove. The rest of your choices would definitely be in my bottom 20%. Before I watched this I thought “There’d better be at least three songs from ‘Hot in the Shade’.” You didn’t let me down, brother.
I aqm a huge Kiss fan. I have tried to count up the songs I love (over 40)... but I never thought to line up those that I do not love. And there are a lot of those too. You nailed it with your selection here. Thanks for the great video and insights!
Great video- pretty much agree with you not only on the songs but your take on Kiss in general. Huge Kiss fan- but depth of lyrics is hit and miss and they would be cancelled if they made some of these today.
I'm one of those that really like The Elder, but admittedly, not a great Kiss album in comparison to their catalog, but I dig the album in general looking past what we "expect" from Kiss. I think I may make a similar video to this, it would be interesting to try to really pick ten least favorites on purpose. I don't think I have ever taken a real critical look at stuff, I just sit back and enjoy them usually.
Agree. And I think taking any of the tracks out of context diminishes the track. Leave Music from the Elder out of the lineup, and I might be inclined to agree with the list.
The Elder is the Destroyer album - Part II on steroids. Great Expectations and Beth were loaded with orchestral sounds etc... The Elder has a speed metal song "The Oath" -- heavy heavy haunted song "Under the Rose" -- a super awesome, typical Ace Frehley song "Dark Light" --- and on and on --- you're assessment is way off.
The Elder album is phenomenal - KISS blew it by putting out two crappy disco albums in a row and lost lots of fans. They make an album of phenomenally structured and written music and it b ombs, bc they lost so many fans - most didn't give it a chance. It was the last KISS I ever bought, bc they hit their music pinnacle and they couldn't top The Elder - and haven't surpassed it yet.

Oh NO, NO, NO man!!! Youve chosen MY FAVORITE SONGS!!! No No No isnt that but I DO LOVE "Down On Your Knees", and "Any Way You Want It"! By the way "Any Way You Want It" is one of great songs by Dave Clark Five and I think that is just a joke-cover even though they lliked or hated the original its pretty cool. But "Down On Your Knees" is my personal top hit song from my childhood, so please take it back as soon as its possible! Thx. Sean I agree with you. Youre right there are some worse KIϟϟ songs. Hi Sean! Another really good list. I am one of those people that could not stand the majority of the albums that were released in the '80s. Quite a dry spell. In my opinion, if you took all of the hits from the '80s and created one album, it would have really rocked! It's hard to really tell which album I hated the most, Hot in the Shade, Asylum, or Crazy Nights. I do remember liking Animalize, but I guess I'm going to have to blow the dust off of those CDs and re-listen to them with your take due to your video and see where my judging in 2023 opinion comes in at.

Great video Sean. From the 70s I'd add Love Theme From Kiss, Kissin Time, Then She Kissed Me. Their super fast songs were usually misses - I'd add No, No, No to that list.
I can agree with every song on this list. I remember having Animalize, Lick it Up, and Asylum on cassette and having to fast forward through those songs. And that demo of Love's a Deadly Weapon is so much better than the album version.
I've been waiting for another Kiss Video from you , Sean !! On the Elder I kind of like World Without Heroes . Everything else on that Album is not for me . I was a hardcore Kiss fan of the first 9 Albums . I didn't really care for Peters Solo Album but I liked the others . They totally lost me until Creatures came out . Then they lost me again . Great video Sean! I definitely agree with most of your list and half of the list I was like "hmm, what is this song, oh another one I can't stand". I would be embarrassed if someone caught me listening to some of those songs for sure. But yeah for sure great content. Keep up the great work!
Excellent list. I'm an original 1970s KISS fan, so your list pleases me greatly. For me, there's just no use for anything past 1983. And I could easily make this a Top 20 or 30. But this "Top 10 Worst" is right on the button. I don't think I would have, even, a Top 3 for the great 70s KISS. Nice job, Sean. Marc ⚡

Hi Sean, I also am a big kiss kiss fan? Or used to be, i saw them first time here in Sydney back in 1980 I got into kiss as a teenager in the seventies & bought every album but stopped at unmasked. It just seems that every song since then just sounds as slap together fill in songs just to get another album out, sure I like the odd song but my play list now only contains albums with the original members.
Spot on w/ Boomerang... I also love that you got in those two horrific ballads about a year apart in 97 and 98... I tend to like a lot of the 80's KISS - so the fact that I would have some other songs would be just based on opinion alone... But I love Odyssey... I like many of the other songs - Murder in High Heels, etc... What did you miss??? I Will Be There from COS??? There are a few other turds... But I did like your video and your research shows... Burn Bitch Burn doesn't get a mention??? I happen to dig that riff a LOT...
I was a teen in the late 80s, so my first album was actually Smashes, Thrashes & Hits. Bar Music From The Elder, I owned all the KISS albums up until Hot In The Shade. Although the golden era ended after Unmasked for me. So, long story short, I agree with you because those early albums are just the best

Gimme More reminded me of Unchain Your Brain by Gillan, and I also think Hell or Hallelujah sounds similar to Gimme More, with a beat like I Stole Your Love. And I think Wall of Sound sounds like a refined version of Read my Body
Oddessy is phenomenal as was the Elder album - the songs were incredible. The Elder is like Destroyer II on steroids. "Once upon, not yet, only know some day - countless stars we met - we met along the way..."
@rockarchiveschannel9390 Pauls version of Oddysey yes, blows away the original, and Pauls voice is main on it. Pauls could sing opera lyric in strong way, he´s a master.
@rticle15 I'm not sure, but for me, things changed drastically when Creatures of the Night came out. I loved that album but it was a different band and I just lost interest in the subsequent albums. Maybe it was just me...
@@Dave---M i dont think it's you. They definitely shifted sound a bit. But to me every album in the 80s had at least on greatest hits worthy song. I get that some folks didnt love it though
The Odyssey needed another take. It was a bit uppity for KISS. I am a fan of concept albums such as Welcome to My Nightmare or Operation Mindcrime. What was the odyssey (protagonist's goal) of The Elder? I'm a writer and I'm not getting it.

I agree with your list. To me most all the songs i listen to is from the Kiss album to the Creatures of the night album. Only a few songs on Ace's solo album and a few from unmasked. No Elder or Dynasty songs. Alive 2 studio songs were great songs. They could have made another album with them and a couple off the solo albums (Ace's songs). From 74 to 78 were their best songs.

Taking my daughter in October. Will be my first Kiss concert. Wish I had gone years ago. Grew up listening and loving their music. Any who, we are super excited lol.
@Mike Rivera Na not really. They are in their 70's so don't expect vocals to be what they were 30 years ago. Hell I wouldn't be surprised if they lip sync half the show. Not going just hear them fucking sing. i got cds for that. Only member I wish was still with the band is Carr. Ace? Who cares my favorite albums didn't have him in them any way.
I can agree with you on songs like Odyssey, I Finally Found My Way, Read My Body, and Murder In High Heels. I do love Boomerang (I can agree about the production tho) and Gimme More. Nothing Can Keep Me From You was a good song tho definitely had no place on the DRC soundtrack but it’d have been a good Box Set new track. I even like Love’s A Deadly Weapon tho not my favorite on Asylum (I admit I do prefer it over Uh! All Night). I admit I used to hate Cadillac Dreams, but I actually really like it now. I don’t have a top 10 least favorite KISS songs, but if I did, it would include most of the songs on Monster, Great Expectations, Then She Kissed Me, Torpedo Girl, Just A Boy (and Odyssey), Lonely Is The Hunter, Bang Bang You, Good Girl Gone Bad, Let’s Put The X In Sex, and We Are One. I was never a big fan of All Hell’s Breaking Loose. I know it’s kinda an 80s fan favorite, but it always annoyed me except for the chorus, especially because I thought A Million To One would have made a much stronger single/video.
The 70s is where KISS rocked, I've always loved Destroyer the best, then Love Gun and then Alive and Alive 2 followed by Rock and Roll Over, Dressed To Kill and then Dynasty ..🎸😁👍🤘
I don't know a lot of the non-makeup songs that weren't popular enough to get played in concert. Except for "Animalize." I had that one. But "Crazy Nights," "Lick it up," "Hot in the Shade," etc, never had the album. So, I mostly stick to the old stuff and the live albums. (Alive III is underrated. One of my favorites). So, even though they're my favorite band, I've never heard these songs on this list. (I'm up to number 5, now).
Dude!!!! Odyssey is one of my very favorite kiss songs! Sure it’s not rock and roll or hard edge so much but what an amazing song. A masterpiece in my opinion. The elder itself with the exception of Mr Blackwell and escape from the island is an absolute masterpiece. But with Bob Ezrin at the helm, what else would one expect anyway?
@@Dave-Rough-Diamond-Dunn Yup. I especially like MR. BLACKWELL. I think it was an older composition that he re-tooled for THE ELDER. It's got such a dirty, funky riff. It's both got a classic Kiss riff and also feels very unique. With different lyrics (non-conceptual), it would have fit well on earlier albums or even CREATURES quite well.
@@endeaver7954 Indeed. I'm not saying ODYSSEY is the greatest Kiss song ever...but it's a lot better than JUST A BOY, which is really cheesy. ODYSSEY has its cheesy moments (Paul is a little too melodramatic in his vocal performance) but it has a nice arrangement and really nice chords. The piano work is excellent.
"Filler songs", but some of them is still memorable and still unique even today. "Love's a Deadly Weapon"..Always liked this one. It's kind of the only "Power Metal'ish" song Kiss ever made.
I heard tell they are saving these very 10 songs to open their final show with! (Dis)honorable mentions go to 'Bang Bang You', & the Simmons nursery rhyme 'Tunnel of Love', IMHO.
I just downloaded Apple Music and was working on Kiss playlists (I'd say mostly complete albums that I take songs out of) and came back to give some hate to Bang Bang You. 😂
I used to like Gimme More that was the very first time I heard Lick It Up on my 13 birthday in March 96' my uncle got me a cassette I still like it off an on I still listen to it anytimeI come across it Dance All Over Your Face was another favorite I used to say and think the guitars sounded Def Leppard on the song. I like the entire Animalize album I wasn't really into Hot In The Shade very much some songs were good Love's A Deadly Weapon was another favorite it still is, tracks 9. 8. 6. 5. were definitely on my worst list
Loved the video! A really respectfull review and opinion, i agree with all of them, personaly i really like the asylum album and animalize cuz i like energetic songs. But you really have good points on why not liking it. My opinion is that the only album from the 80s that is REALLY good is creatures of the night! Eric Carr drums are so sick in all of the albums, guess he was the only thing saving Kiss through the 80s
Im grateful you didn't include any tracks from the first six albums. Granted there are some filler tracks here and there but i find them more tolerable than the ones here.
Thanks for posting! I was a KISS fan for years, until Peter and Ace left, then stayed through everything until Hot In The Shade. That was my breaking point. Until Psycho Circus. That was the only KISS music that I actually bought. Pleasently surprised by it. Not a fan of Gene or Paul. KISS just isn't KISS without the original members, no matter how good the replacements are. The only two songs on your list that I liked more than you did were Gimme More and Boomerang. From Animalize to Sonic Boom I only likes about 5 or 6 songs Gene did during that time. The ones I like the most were on Revenge. On the other albums during that time I only liked one or two from him.
I know many fans like I Still Love You off of Creatures. The studio version on this is my least favorite. I do like the Unplugged arrangement much better. I totally agree with #5 and #6. Another of my least favorites is Torpedo Girl off Unmasked. Another one I didn't care for was the track "Lonely Is the Hunter 😔"
I actually like Loves a Deadly Weapon and Odyssey, but I know Odyssey has a niche fan base. I’d have My Way as my worst, and Great Expectations filling the other spot. I’m surprised nothing from Unmasked made your list though.
I can't disagree, especially since all of these songs come from the era after I lost interest in KISS. I would add "Tomorrow and Tonight", an obvious attempt to re-create the magic of "Rock and Roll All Nite".
I agree with 9 out of 10 songs on the list. I really like Dance all over your face. I never take the lyrics too seriously in any Kiss song, and turned up loud it kind of gives me a Love it Loud feeling. The other 9 are songs I skip when playing an album.... Well, maybe with the exception of The Odyssey. I rarely play the Elder, but usually play it straight through when I do. My worst Kiss songs overall is anything Paul sings in his high, almost falsetto voice, which from the early 80s to present is a pretty high percentage.
Can't argue with this list. Around that time when the makeup came off I felt that was a huge mistake and distanced myself from the group a bit although they had some good songs during the no makeup era for sure.
Two songs I would've included were Let's Put the X in Sex and I Was Made For Lovin' You. The former for it's painfully and laughably bad song title and lyrics, and the latter for alienating the entire fan base for being a disco song.
I ask it this way: How many good songs Gene did between Animalize and Hot Shade? By the way, Boomerang was the first song that came to my mind when TH-cam recommended this video to me. Decent list otherwise but I think Dance All Over Your Face is fine musically atleast. Not great but not shit either.
Odyssey is a hidden gem (like the whole "the elder"....if you wanna hear some real cramps just listen to Tomorrow and tonight Then she kissed me We are one God gave Rnr to you and every song that made Kiss sounding like an older version of Bon Jovi-Def leppard

I was a hardcore Kiss fan of the first 9 Albums . I didn't really care for Peters Solo Album but I liked the others . They totally lost me until Creatures came out . Then they lost me again . And the next song I really like is Psycho Circus . 🎸

Great video Sean! I definitely agree with most of your list and half of the list I was like "hmm, what is this song, oh another one I can't stand". I would be embarrassed if someone caught me listening to some of those songs for sure. But yeah for sure great content. Keep up the great work!

Hi Sean, I also am a big kiss kiss fan? Or used to be, i saw them first time here in Sydney back in 1980 I got into kiss as a teenager in the seventies & bought every album but stopped at unmasked. It just seems that every song since then just sounds as slap together fill in songs just to get another album out, sure I like the odd song but my play list now only contains albums with the original members.

I was a teen in the late 80s, so my first album was actually Smashes, Thrashes & Hits. Bar Music From The Elder, I owned all the KISS albums up until Hot In The Shade. Although the golden era ended after Unmasked for me. So, long story short, I agree with you because those early albums are just the best

Oddessy is phenomenal as was the Elder album - the songs were incredible. The Elder is like Destroyer II on steroids. "Once upon, not yet, only know some day - countless stars we met - we met along the way..."

@rticle15 I'm not sure, but for me, things changed drastically when Creatures of the Night came out. I loved that album but it was a different band and I just lost interest in the subsequent albums. Maybe it was just me...

The Odyssey needed another take. It was a bit uppity for KISS. I am a fan of concept albums such as Welcome to My Nightmare or Operation Mindcrime. What was the odyssey (protagonist's goal) of The Elder? I'm a writer and I'm not getting it.

The Peter Criss songs were actually my favorite KISS songs. “Hooligan,” “Hard luck woman” and “Baby Driver” are hard rock classics!
I never looked into it but I always felt Hooligan was written by Gene or Paul for Peter, insulting in that light if you listen.
Hooligan is a great song, why his solo album surprised me, he seemed to sing the edgier songs and then he made an album of blah lol

I agree with your list. To me most all the songs i listen to is from the Kiss album to the Creatures of the night album. Only a few songs on Ace's solo album and a few from unmasked. No Elder or Dynasty songs. Alive 2 studio songs were great songs. They could have made another album with them and a couple off the solo albums (Ace's songs). From 74 to 78 were their best songs.

I can agree with you on songs like Odyssey, I Finally Found My Way, Read My Body, and Murder In High Heels. I do love Boomerang (I can agree about the production tho) and Gimme More. Nothing Can Keep Me From You was a good song tho definitely had no place on the DRC soundtrack but it’d have been a good Box Set new track. I even like Love’s A Deadly Weapon tho not my favorite on Asylum (I admit I do prefer it over Uh! All Night). I admit I used to hate Cadillac Dreams, but I actually really like it now.
I don’t have a top 10 least favorite KISS songs, but if I did, it would include most of the songs on Monster, Great Expectations, Then She Kissed Me, Torpedo Girl, Just A Boy (and Odyssey), Lonely Is The Hunter, Bang Bang You, Good Girl Gone Bad, Let’s Put The X In Sex, and We Are One.
I was never a big fan of All Hell’s Breaking Loose. I know it’s kinda an 80s fan favorite, but it always annoyed me except for the chorus, especially because I thought A Million To One would have made a much stronger single/video.

The 70s is where KISS rocked, I've always loved Destroyer the best, then Love Gun and then Alive and Alive 2 followed by Rock and Roll Over, Dressed To Kill and then Dynasty ..🎸😁👍🤘
There was a love story in Detroit rock city movie so a ballad totally made sense on the soundtrack..
I don't know a lot of the non-makeup songs that weren't popular enough to get played in concert. Except for "Animalize." I had that one. But "Crazy Nights," "Lick it up," "Hot in the Shade," etc, never had the album. So, I mostly stick to the old stuff and the live albums. (Alive III is underrated. One of my favorites). So, even though they're my favorite band, I've never heard these songs on this list. (I'm up to number 5, now).
Lick it Up is worth having just for Fits Like a Glove.

Sure it’s not rock and roll or hard edge so much but what an amazing song. A masterpiece in my opinion. The elder itself with the exception of Mr Blackwell and escape from the island is an absolute masterpiece. But with Bob Ezrin at the helm, what else would one expect anyway?

@@Dave-Rough-Diamond-Dunn Yup. I especially like MR. BLACKWELL. I think it was an older composition that he re-tooled for THE ELDER. It's got such a dirty, funky riff. It's both got a classic Kiss riff and also feels very unique. With different lyrics (non-conceptual), it would have fit well on earlier albums or even CREATURES quite well.
@@endeaver7954 Indeed. I'm not saying ODYSSEY is the greatest Kiss song ever...but it's a lot better than JUST A BOY, which is really cheesy. ODYSSEY has its cheesy moments (Paul is a little too melodramatic in his vocal performance) but it has a nice arrangement and really nice chords. The piano work is excellent.
"Filler songs", but some of them is still memorable and still unique even today.
"Love's a Deadly Weapon"..Always liked this one. It's kind of the only "Power Metal'ish" song Kiss ever made.
I heard tell they are saving these very 10 songs to open their final show with! (Dis)honorable mentions go to 'Bang Bang You', & the Simmons nursery rhyme 'Tunnel of Love', IMHO.

I used to like Gimme More that was the very first time I heard Lick It Up on my 13 birthday in March 96' my uncle got me a cassette I still like it off an on I still listen to it anytimeI come across it Dance All Over Your Face was another favorite I used to say and think the guitars sounded Def Leppard on the song. I like the entire Animalize album I wasn't really into Hot In The Shade very much some songs were good Love's A Deadly Weapon was another favorite it still is, tracks 9. 8. 6. 5. were definitely on my worst list

Loved the video! A really respectfull review and opinion, i agree with all of them, personaly i really like the asylum album and animalize cuz i like energetic songs. But you really have good points on why not liking it. My opinion is that the only album from the 80s that is REALLY good is creatures of the night! Eric Carr drums are so sick in all of the albums, guess he was the only thing saving Kiss through the 80s

Im grateful you didn't include any tracks from the first six albums. Granted there are some filler tracks here and there but i find them more tolerable than the ones here.

Thanks for posting! I was a KISS fan for years, until Peter and Ace left, then stayed through everything until Hot In The Shade. That was my breaking point. Until Psycho Circus. That was the only KISS music that I actually bought. Pleasently surprised by it. Not a fan of Gene or Paul. KISS just isn't KISS without the original members, no matter how good the replacements are. The only two songs on your list that I liked more than you did were Gimme More and Boomerang.
From Animalize to Sonic Boom I only likes about 5 or 6 songs Gene did during that time. The ones I like the most were on Revenge. On the other albums during that time I only liked one or two from him.
Actually pretty good list though I like Dance All Over Your Face. Honestly you can put a lot from Sonic Boom or Monster on this list.
I know many fans like I Still Love You off of Creatures. The studio version on this is my least favorite. I do like the Unplugged arrangement much better. I totally agree with #5 and #6. Another of my least favorites is Torpedo Girl off Unmasked. Another one I didn't care for was the track "Lonely Is the Hunter 😔"

I can't disagree, especially since all of these songs come from the era after I lost interest in KISS. I would add "Tomorrow and Tonight", an obvious attempt to re-create the magic of "Rock and Roll All Nite".

I agree with 9 out of 10 songs on the list. I really like Dance all over your face. I never take the lyrics too seriously in any Kiss song, and turned up loud it kind of gives me a Love it Loud feeling. The other 9 are songs I skip when playing an album.... Well, maybe with the exception of The Odyssey. I rarely play the Elder, but usually play it straight through when I do.
My worst Kiss songs overall is anything Paul sings in his high, almost falsetto voice, which from the early 80s to present is a pretty high percentage.
Can't argue with this list. Around that time when the makeup came off I felt that was a huge mistake and distanced myself from the group a bit although they had some good songs during the no makeup era for sure.

Two songs I would've included were Let's Put the X in Sex and I Was Made For Lovin' You. The former for it's painfully and laughably bad song title and lyrics, and the latter for alienating the entire fan base for being a disco song.
I ask it this way: How many good songs Gene did between Animalize and Hot Shade? By the way, Boomerang was the first song that came to my mind when TH-cam recommended this video to me. Decent list otherwise but I think Dance All Over Your Face is fine musically atleast. Not great but not shit either.
I like his stuff on Crazy Nights quite a bit tbh. Pop for sure but melodic and catchy imo.
He started putting more effort into the band again with Crazy Nights. And had some of his most solid songs in a very long time on Revenge.
I couldn’t narrow it down to just ten. Basically everything from 1983 to present day with the exception of Rock n Roll Hell.
