  • Probably history's most famous scientist, Albert Einstein made huge breakthroughs in various fields.
    He's the favourite scientist of David Fairhurst from Nottingham Trent University.

    Finally! I have been waiting for FavScientist to do this video on Einstein! Thank you so much! He is my favourite scientist!

    Nice bit of sarcasm for someone who had a simple suggestion...very justified.

    I am happy to see someone brave enough to pick an obvious favorite scientist.
    Thank you from Max in USA, Florida (southwest).

    well... for me is Leonardo Da Vinci.. because he was the genious in his time... I think that he was our salvation for so many things now! .. besides that I love to draw and love his drawings and his message in them!... so I think you guys have to do something about him one of this days PLEASE!! :)

    @FavScientist Well at 6:09, 267/5 = 53.4 which is exactly the number of days that Franklin Story Musgrave has spent in orbit around the Earth. Making him one of our few real time-travelers as he is now about 1 millisecond younger than if he had stayed on earth, another is Sergei Avdeyev which is 1/15th of a second younger. Probably not it but I thoroughly enjoyed reading about that :)

    Nice one David!!! :)
    btw - was it Einstein who wrote a paper about pollen in water, brownian motion, and what caused it, quite early on in his illustrious career? or am I confusing with someone/something else? ty

    I like Oliver Heaviside...he wrote E=mc^2 before Einstein and came up with Maxwell's equations.

  • @thefranciswatts
    @thefranciswatts 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @MarcusMacgregor2 the other thing is that Maxwell's theory was that light moves at a constant speed relative to aether. Einstein took that idea, and just removed aether, and said it was relative to nothing. no great insight. he was simply adapting an idea that already existed to fit into his idea. I happen to think it was wrong.

    1:48 - 2.23
    c = 1/√ε0μ0
    That was so enligthment for me !!!
    It has to be constant ! In the same medium.
    Thanx Prof.David Fairhurst ! Even a poor mindet like me can now understand a little of the thinking of Einstein.
    You not see that in popular science , only that it is like it is, that speed for light not adds up, but never why.
    But this made it clear in a little words i never forget !
    THX again !

    @0x8x0 Oh sorry, I was allays under the impression that there was emphasis on the Stein. You learn something new every day. The most important question though is how did he pronounce it?

    @subh1 The Michelson / Morley experiment was 1887, 18 years is not 2 centuries. Also, what does light not slowing down through a non-existent aether have to do with the speed of light being constant for all observers?

    the beauty of science and scientists, is that we can know that einstien was not 100% correct, but still love him and his contribution. just as we love isaac newton even though we know that he was far from 100% correct. science strives to find the correct answers to the questions of existence, but all know that at best they are getting closer to the truth. it is what makes science so marvelous, the idea that you can aim at something your whole life, but the bullseye it unlikely to ever be hit.

    Am I the only one who was kinda hoping for more in this video?
    Don't feel I really meet the man Einstein in this presentation. Want to hear his relation the war and what he did during it..

    @Minifig666 IPA: /'aɪnʃtaɪn/ is the standard German pronunciation, /'aɪnstaɪn/ the English one because there is no "ʃt" (like in shtick) in standard English. HTH

    I think one of the aspects that attracts me most to these vids, are how unrehearsed, off the cuff, and casual/natural they all are.
    I reckon Einstein deserved a lot longer than 6:29 minutes, tho

    @Minifig666 Actually, for a Brit David does a good job pronouncing it. It comes quite close to as northern Germans would pronounce it.

    Geat video. However the fact that speed of light is constant was not Einstein's idea/contribution. It was at first place an experimental observation dating back to at least 2 centuries before Einstein (e.g. Michelson-Morley expt). Also, for special relativity, Lorentz deserves a greater credit than Einstein. Einstein just did the relativistic mass and E=mc^2 part. What Einstein's genius should be attributed to more is his theory of general relativity.
