The Mama Tree - Kas Martin - 2017

Some years ago I began working on a big board to tell the story of my Beginnings...
I began writing and then collaging on the board. I collaged the whole Trunk with tiny images that 'spoke' of my Life. I loved the Branches. There were SO many Branches and colourful foliage...
To the bottom right of the Trunk was a pair of hands cupping a button in them and offering these to a beautiful, colourful Bird nearby.
The button in the cupped hands was an Apology to the Bird (me). The Bird did not accept the Button...
Initially the bird had been dull, grey and very depressing to look at... and I loved how, under that blanket of branches, the bird became colourful.
I am STILL not yet finished this piece of work - and it is work - hard therapeutic, developmental work...
I am not 100% certain why I haven't finished the piece however I do have a little idea... I am still a Work In Process myself... I have not yet resolved everything from my childhood. I have a feeling when I feel more able to step into The Mama Tree and fully be Me, then I will have completed the painting.
Everything that we create is a reflection of who we are and of our lived experience. I offer therapeutic processes that invite others to really take a look and reflect deeply into who they are and what their art is showing them...
