    IN PF5 Berry mechanism i.e. Berry Pseudoroatiom takes place so all the bonds are congruent so it exists asPF5 only and no dissociation into anion and cation and it's hybridization is sp3d

      i dont know whether dissociation occurs or not , but what asish says is right , all bonds are congruent by berry " s theory

      But psuedorotation is possible only in gaseous phase

    PF5 exists in ionic state in solids. The reason being that it does not exists simply as a PF5 molecule. Rather it forms two complex compounds:-
    1. PF4+
    2. PF6-
    So it exists as an ionic compound with formula [PF4]+[PF6]-.
    In polar solvents, PF5 undergoes autoionization.According to Dilute solutions dissociate
    PF5 ⇌ [PF4 ]+ F− (tetrahedral)
    At higher concentrations, a second equilibrium becomes more prevalent,
    2 PF5 ⇌ [PF4 ] + and ( [PF6 ] - octahedral)

    Answer of homework question:- PF5 will exist in form of PF4+ (sp3 hybridised) and PF6- (sp3d2 hybridised)

    Bhaiya, since PCl5 is present as [PCl4]+ and [PCl6]- in solid state, I would expect that PF5 is also present as [PF4]+ and [PF6]-.

    Sachin bhaiyya, when PBr5 does not dissociate it is heavier, and it will not move and stability increases then why should it dissociate?
