2022 Skoda Kodiaq RS (inc. 0-100) review: They actually listened to our feedback!

  • Last time I drove the Kodiaq RS I didn't love it. Most of the car was great, but it was let down by the diesel engine. Can you believe that Skoda actually listened and switched the diesel for the turbocharged petrol engine out of the Golf GTI? Paul Maric gets behind the wheel to see if it makes a material enough difference.

Nice review Paul, but you’ve missed that the $75,000 RS comes WITHOUT heated steering wheel!! I bought MY22 fully optioned fully specced Kodiaq Style with electric tow bar for $65,000. The heated steering wheel and other warming devices have been brilliant on these chilly mornings and my early starts. I couldn’t go for the Sportline or RS as microsuede is so hard to keep clean and I’m not a fan of the tombstone seats. Consequently I have a nicely luxurious version that will get a mild ECU remap down the track to bring it in line or slightly above the RS.

Just bought and taken delivery of one myself. Really should be closer to $65k, but car prices these days are just insane, and in reality, it makes a fairly unique proposition (and you can get one right now). If you’re trading something you’re probably almost getting that extra $10k on your trade with the way the market is, so it almost balances out - at least that’s how I justified it to myself!

I have always liked Skoda vehicles as value for money oprions that too many people overlooked. However the past year or two sees them creeping up in price and adding option packages that are too much or features that should have been standard. As for this Kodiaq, a really nice vehicle but I think it is $10k too much. I would also be holding off until all the missing features are available again.

Am I missing something in interior space?
I just jumped in one of these at a dealer to see what the interior is like, and when I moved the drivers seat to a comfortable driving position, there was no way I could fit in the back seat! I'm only a couple inches taller than Paul at 6'3, but the space seen in this video didn't seem to exist!
A storm came in, so I didn't stay to try everything out to see if I could make it work, but compared to a Sorento, this interior is tiny!

Back in 2016 when in Germany, with my teenage daughter & son, my German mate took us on the autobahn in his diesel VW Tiguan. I said to him “Juergen, what will it do?” He floored it & we hit 212 kph! The real reason behind the VRS is that Ford somehow got the word RS patented in the UK so Skoda had to resort using something else to mark their cars hence the VRS.
Under is the official explanation from Skoda UK:
"After checking a number of websites I could see that there has been a lot of debate regarding the meaning behind the word Vrs and most people have got the rs part correct as being Rally Sport.
However it appears that no one has actually guessed what the V stands for and this is in fact the Diacritical mark you see above the S in Skoda.

      @thomasashley-smith245 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I’d say it’s not noisy at all in diesel form. It certainly doesn’t feel like a tractor!
In reality I think they missed a trick here. For the hike I’d expect a higher output petrol engine. It’s an RS, it should punch.
Not saying the diesel is perfect but I guess they could have put something a bit spicier in it.
The higher revving engine probably feels more engaging but it’s also probably not significantly faster and is lower economy. Couple weak torque if you tow… it’s a bit odd. The R engine would be perfect but I suspect it would be fighting too hard with the Tiguan R…

@@philipn5162 I love it. Best vehicle I’ve ever owned. Couple of features missing that even my Honda Accord had but overall much better.
No idea how it compares to the Kodiaq - does have slightly less power and torque 177/340 but it goes well and doesn’t lack power for its size/weight. It’s probably smaller than the Kodiaq, I’ve not checked the dimensions but the 2nd row slides 160mm forward and back and reclines and there is room for 2 adults in the 3rd row if they aren’t huge. Tow rating is the same at 2000kg braked. And being permanent 4WD it’s great, very stable. Also being a Land Rover it’s incredible off-road and I take it off-road. I bought it 2nd hand but I think with the options taken it would have been $70-$80k new.

    • @thomasashley-smith245
      @thomasashley-smith245 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I have taken it on the beach. There are better options. This has 20” low profile tyres, not loads of clearance, the petrol has less torque now, so you’ve already got a few things against you. On hard pack sand fine, but I had some difficult moments in the deeper stuff… would not recommend for this purpose.

      No problem
      It is a great car
But definitely not something with too much off road ability
191 mm of ground clearance is not a lot either
Dirt / gravel roads is ok, but if u need decent off road ability, this is probably not the right car.
It does have an Off Road mode, but, this can only do so much considering the inherent limitations the vehicle has.
U could fit proper chunky All Terrain tyres, which would help it do more off road, but still limited ground clearance, and then less grip with these tyres on bitumen.
Subaru Outback is limited by ground clearance
      Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk ?
LR Disco Sport has off road capability, but a new one is at least $ 70 k, or more. 🤷🏻‍♂️
Tyre size and type of Tyre will greatly affect the off road capability of any SUV.
Most SUV vehicles come with tyres that are very much road biased…

I was going to be a diesel Kodiaq VRS owner, alas, guys like you encouraged VAG to stop bringing in diesels. As you touched on the subject the 95 RON fuel is a killer in price and the fuel consumption is not as attractive, I have an Octavia Scout Diesel and without a doubt it has been the best car I have ever owned. I was deliberating between a Kodiaq or a Superb Scout (Where I live I need 4WD). I guess I will have to drive the petrol and see how it goes.

Explains why there are so many ugly grey ones about (grey is The worst colour for any car) as all other colours cost and people are too tight to pay for decent paint and just go fro the boring free colours.
The aero caps on the wheels are ugly too.
Is that a Bolster adjustment or Lumbar on the seats? It is rare to see Bolster and would be even rarer without also Lumbar. I expect it’s Lumbar.

  • @Chrizzaah

A bit over priced. This is basically the same size as an Octavia RS in the cabin with +2 kids seats. Only thing extra you're really paying for is AWD and the rest is SUV tax. Makes the Superb seem like a bargain with the more powerful 206TSI engine from Golf R.

The symbol in front of the RS is actually the Caron symbol above the S in Skoda, not a v.

In the UK it's called a VRS due to local trademark conflicts with Ford, oddly they're only UK region specific. But global logo is smart and subtle.

  • @madpuri

Bought this vRS in red couple of weeks ago, missing canton and few safety features like blind spot monitoring and rear AEB.
Car is quite fun to drive in performance mode though and carry my German Shepherds to camping spots. Really enjoy the purchase, only thing I miss is the blind spot monitor as it also integrates into travel assist systems. Even without that Travel Assist does a decent job similar to Volvo XC40 lane keeping / pilot.
I cannot go to the garage these days without driving this thing out for a quick spin, so much fun. Paid only $73k brand new with 7 year warranty + prepaid service so quite good if you ask me and price of car comes to around $69k.

I've had mine for a few months now and think it's brilliant. I have everything on it except the Canton system which was dissapointing, but still happy with the purchase. The only thing I'd change is the centre console. It's difficult to fit two cups in there at the same time, so they need to revisit that. Also, they can lose the artificial noise in normal mode. Should be for "special occasions" only. It is becoming annoying after 3months of having to turn it off for the school run.
