Thanks for the good information. I bought a used Larson All American 170 boat and when taking it for a test drive, there was a vibration when turning the boat. I thought it was a bad U-joint but it was actually a thrust bearing in the bell housing... Ugh. Well, it didn't hurt me too badly but I did have to pull the motor (V6) and replace the bell housing (this was an older Volvo Penta). $500 for a rebuilt bell housing and an afternoon of hard work and it's a great boat again. I'll add that I did get a really good deal on it.

Bought my 240 Sundeck from a Skipper Buds with out a sea trail, only ran on a hose. Thought they were a reputable dealer. Well it had a massive tear in the shift cable bellows so it took on a ton of water at my dock and also wouldn't redline because it needed a fuel pump. A little while down the road the "new" motor that was put in had bad compression on a couple cylinders and needed to be replaced. That was an expensive lesson but well learned.

Hi Capt Matt, thanks for posting your videos - so helpful and informative. Given the current market we are in with a high cost of living, higher interest rates and oil prices, what are your thoughts about how much to offer on a listed boat, specifically a late model Grady White 325 freedom. There are a few on the market in the $400k range (some with price drops) and was wondering how much I should offer once I get a slip. $360k, $380k maybe even $390k? Just wanted to get your thoughts as I’m sure you are very familiar with the current market environment we are in. Thank you.

I bought my 24 foot cuddy cabin bought from a friend without a sea trial or service records, I asked for a sea trial but he made excuses not to put it in the water said he took it out every weekend no problems , big mistake for trusting, had my mechanic go over it , it didn’t pass the load test had multiple electrical problems , gas in the bilge , hydraulic steering hoses leaking , so yea , hope this helps someone buying their first used boat , I’m going take a 7 thousand dollar loss even after I sell it with the repairs completed, haven’t had it a year .
