Maglev is a few years from completion yet (2030 or so), but you have been able to from Tokyo to Hiroshima (800km) which is a little less than London-Aberdeen in under 4 hours for more than 30 years. You can buy a ticket just before departure without penalty, and it is clean and comfortable. Oh and food, beer, ice cream is delivered to your seat.

Well that's what happens if your citizens/subjects are not broadly educated....they settle for second best. WE in the uk are sold on the idea we won WW2 and that we are great...but we're not. Everything we generally do, is more expensive, and slower...from trains, to slow wi-fi, to motorways, to health care, high taxes (when you include sales 20% sales tax), high national insurance, low pensions, low benefits, high rents...shall I go on.....
If you think for a moment and understand that trains must turn and stop once in a while because the train that stopping only on two ends will not pay for itself, then you would know that maximum speed did not mean much in real terms as it did not means much in your car outside German Autobahn in clear traffic when the speed limit is removed. Most of the UK did not have a population density of Japan nor is rail as heavily subsidized as in communist China to promote money burning projects that will never pay for themselves just to create jobs, so you can be glad to have at least what you have, cost of train per km grows exponentially with speed increase beyond a certain point, few would be able to afford Maglev ride in the UK unless it will be heavily subsidized by your money through taxes just so the ticket can be affordable for poor to have bit speedier ride... The country made a big debt by handling this pandemic too slow, so you can't expect that everything will be roses and rainbows afterward, people that thought pandemic is a good time for a protests did not help either..

If they are not building past Birmingham then what is the point in HS2 , TO GIVE SOMETHING NEW THAT WE CURRENTLY DO NOT have . Pity they didn't start construction in Leeds / Birmingham and work down instead . The new faster 250 mph trains with compulsory in cab signalling needed to drive at faster speeds something that isn't fitted already , but it will put the expanding freight and slower services on the current WCML ECML routes and the new faster on the new . The only PR BS way spin to achieve more capacity on the existing routes north of Birmingham is to split faster sections of track up between more signal blocks 1 train for 1 signal block set . Overall lower average speed through the more signals , including bi directional driving on the same track . Unless the govt really mean plough up more land either side of existing lines to add more seperate track , which would involve as much admin and spending as building it completely new to add capacity then it's all hype style and no substance ! No doubt the original GWR route from London Paddington to Penzance in 1840s build from the very beginning , had the same cost worries and lack of future success concerns being all new transport then like HS2 but still ploughed ahead and we couldn't imagine a UK without that and it's other previous routes even the ECML fourth bridge the Welsh Severn tunnel line too ! Typical of all government can't think plan next decades plus or work across party lines same with the NHS fundings etc ! Ps if people really fell for the 20min journey saving only you won't get it when your overpriced HS2 train joins the crowded routes existing north of Brum ! Why some countries we think they are very poor, such as China, Laos, and so on ,they have high speed trains, do you think we are living a rich country ?????
Why do the US and many Western countries have no high-speed trains? Have big car and oil companies paid off our politicians to keep the trains from expanding and was it intended for train companies to FAIL completely? US train company Amtrak’s chronic delays are costing millions of dollars. It’s spending more on fuel, labour and even maintaining extra locomotives and rail cars than it needs as a result of poor on-time performance. Even if they add more than 50 new routes they’re still one our two hours SLOWER than a car. The cost for UK HS2 high-speed-train project has ballooned from 30 billion to over 120 billion. To reduce the production cost they're cutting certain sections of the HS2 tracks which means they're going to use the EXISTING TRACKS the HS2 trains will travel on the same speed as the existing trains or maybe just 5 to 10 minutes faster. Paying over 120 billion just for 10 minutes faster. It's not even high-speed trains like the ones China are building around the world. Could it be deliberate by these companies that have more to gain from the consumers buying cars and the petrol to run them dealing with all the parties involved, politics and people with their HANDS IN THE POT and not to mention the high price to buy the land and labour costs are astronomical? And why has the US a terrible healthcare system, low internet speed more mass shootings, fighting unpopular, endless and costly wars in other countries air and water pollution no high-speed trains bad food quality hormones in beef and pork genetically modified crops, fruits and vegetables chlorinated chicken overprocessed convenience food full of chemicals? Aren’t powerful companies and banks paying off governments in the West and how much these companies CONTROL and RUN our governments? China's BRI built high-speed trains in Asia and around the world. But we’re expected to believe China and Russia are the threat for the world the US intends to defend the "rules-based order" that Russia and China are posing a challenge to.
Could say they are threat to democracy us common mortals rebelling and not forcing us not rolling over our land for hs2 , and other owned entities we have and can determine our own futures like they do in Russia and China stealing from you

2021: HS2 cancelled in the north
2022: New pointless tube line in London
Dont worry it's just Boris levelling up
Along with 'Straight Bananas'!! Yet another "Torygraph" column, this Halfwit has lined his pocket with! Enjoy this Fool, he's only the Prime Minister!! Carrie will 'Carry the Can' over a nice Bottle of Wine or two tonight, in their comfortable refurbished Home in Downing Street, disregarding increased Heating Costs!! We're alright! Stuff you lot!
After over 10+ years, the railway developments in Whitechapel Station (East London) came to a complete just 2 months ago!
It took Crossrail 10+ years to add only one new stop to their route line.
Londoners can now travel all the way up to Reading in the midlands part of England!
Anybody paying attention:
Northern Tory voters: Wow, didn't see that coming...
🤦🏿♂️
why do we put up for it hey like the french did something why don't we
only way to make it work is do it like china remove anyone that lives near tracks expand the old tracks into new ones so it can take both sets of trains job done
Heading in the right direction then becoming policed state
The NORTH is Scotland, not England. Duh. Time we dissolved this political union where England rules Scotland. The real north has not even got Electrification of our rail network north of Edinburgh and England worries about not having a high-speed service! Right there you see the driving force for Scottish Independence when Scotland's former Oil and Gas capital of Europe and 3rd largest city of Aberdeen has no Electric trains, motorway or any of the high-speed connections that the North East of England enjoy now, the time for change is NOW.
Channel 4 opens a new HQ in Leeds and the Tories drop the new line there.
The whole project was fantastic. Why scrapped some of the routes?
Travelling isn't so popular as it was! COVID-19 has fast-tracked working from home & made sitting in confined spaces, with lots of other masked people, rather uncomfortable!
yes he did, just one lie after another
Just cancel the whole thing, we don't need it. An incredible waste of money that could be spent on far more important things than saving a few minutes off a journey. Most people are now working from home which makes it even more useless.
Is this the new Armando Iannuci series?
"Levelling up" 😂 if. you ever believed that, you deserve everything you get! 👍
Ps The Class 67 diesel loco and the original HST 125s were designed for 140moh running too in the 1970s to what we have faster than today also .
The HS2 line is being built past Birmingham, the Line is being built up to Crewe and on to Manchester.
@@peterwilliamallen1063 hopefully in full but not likely complete new tracks as recently announced per my comment above
THE NORTH GOT SHORT CHANGED!!! #BorisJohnson

How is this a surprise?
Why some countries we think they are very poor, such as China, Laos, and so on ,they have high speed trains, do you think we are living a rich country ?????
What kind of question is that?? He never made a promise to begging with, the main is just lies.
Tories couldn’t find a friend to pocket on Leeds’ line???
monumentalal LIAR
Why did they vote Tory? They know they always lie! Barb
This country will soon become 3rd world compared to the rate some others are progressing at. It's actually alarming
Get ‘sprouts on
Captin hindsight again I'm from the North I don't want it don't speak for me
Time will be slashed to under half an hour…….why do you believe these figures? Barb
Why do the US and many Western countries
have no high-speed trains?
Have big car and oil companies paid off our politicians
to keep the trains from expanding
and was it intended for train companies to FAIL completely?
US train company Amtrak’s chronic delays are costing millions of dollars.
It’s spending more on fuel,
labour and even maintaining extra locomotives and rail cars
than it needs as a result of poor on-time performance.
Even if they add more than 50 new routes
they’re still one our two hours SLOWER than a car.
The cost for UK HS2 high-speed-train project
has ballooned from 30 billion to over 120 billion.
To reduce the production cost
they're cutting certain sections of the HS2 tracks
which means they're going to use the EXISTING TRACKS
the HS2 trains will travel on the same speed
as the existing trains
or maybe just 5 to 10 minutes faster.
Paying over 120 billion
just for 10 minutes faster.
It's not even high-speed trains
like the ones China are building around the world.
Could it be deliberate by these companies
that have more to gain from the consumers
buying cars and the petrol to run them
dealing with all the parties involved,
politics and people with their HANDS IN THE POT
and not to mention the high price
to buy the land and labour costs are astronomical?
And why has the US a terrible healthcare system,
low internet speed
more mass shootings,
fighting unpopular, endless and costly wars in other countries
air and water pollution
no high-speed trains
bad food quality
hormones in beef and pork
genetically modified crops, fruits and vegetables
chlorinated chicken
overprocessed convenience food full of chemicals?
Aren’t powerful companies and banks
paying off governments in the West
and how much these companies CONTROL and RUN our governments?
China's BRI built high-speed trains in Asia and around the world.
But we’re expected to believe
China and Russia are the threat for the world
the US intends to defend the "rules-based order"
that Russia and China are posing a challenge to.
Could say they are threat to democracy us common mortals rebelling and not forcing us not rolling over our land for hs2 , and other owned entities we have and can determine our own futures like they do in Russia and China stealing from you
@@timhuggins1993 It’s not stealing if your paid compensation.
@@natenae8635 agree but do they pay in chima africa etc was my point
@@timhuggins1993 Probably not in China. In Africa I have no idea as it’s an entire continent.
Oaf on manoeuvres. Expect a few disjointed blue painted cycle lanes instead ; lethal to cyclists and pedestrians alike . The train services in the South need investment too !
BOZO: JUST A BLOW HARD!
Travel for the rich, not the plebs.
No, he's very truthful old Boris, never tells lies that fella, perish the thought..... hahahaha hahaha.
I am GASSED the train might be stopping literally cba with it ruined the countryside
I guess nobody cares about Leeds and Sheffield, isn't it 🙄
No one cares about Birmingham either .
Im confused by all this. Lots of people saying it is all working, all going well, tis gonna be much faster. Then lots of other people saying, its a disaster, everything is going wrong.
Which is true??? 🤔🙄🤔🙄
Both? It depends on where you live and what your priorities are. For some people this might improve their lives, for others this won't improve anything or will make things worse. It looks like Boris is making sure people in areas that vote Tory are going to get the best improvements and have completely changed what he promised everywhere else.
This happened just after Cop26, every country is talking about massive investment in mass transportation to limit their carbon footprints.
Why would you want a train that will bring London to the rest of England? Who wants to be on a crowded train?
The craven establishment journalists can't seem to ask basic questions: what would labour do if and when they return to power?
Typical politician from any political party, promises while canvassing then once in power realities strike and the broken promises stack up and it goes on and on and on
Awful Awful decision
HS2 should have been built from North to South
Hopefully the Electorate of Uxbridge will kick this Clown out of Office! I've been a constituent member of this Borough all my life, Voting Conservative at every Election, remembering our honourable Member Randall, who represented this Borough 'honourably'! Railways - the UK is still the stone age of western Europe - and destined to stay there for the foreseeable future. Get back into the EU asap!
So we’re told to wear a mask one rule for him and another for the rest of us
Build a wall around Leeds Bradford let them all stay there
London to Birmingham 20-30 mins faster, HS2 ready to use in 20 years. . 2 mile wide swathe cut through compulsory purchased homes, businesses, farms, nature reserves, forests and more. People made ill and died. Wildlife too. NDA'S signed to keep people quiet. Rulings made against HS2. More to come it's expected. It's overpriced £100-200 Billion, Channel tunnel was £5.9bn. Taxpayers to pick up the bill.
Where do you get the idea of HS" track alignment being 2 miles wide Anne Carter, it will be about 50 foot wide and who are going to kill all these people and animals, definitely not HS2 and as a Brummie 30 mins faster than a train at the moment is a plus as on a day return journey it will be an hour saved as the time from Birmingham New Street to London Euston at the moment is 90 mins, from Birmingham Snow hill to London Marylebone is 2 hours, so yes it will be a massive time saver for us Brummies at least, so sorry to disappoint you.
I'm glad it's being cancelled but nonetheless obviously a broken promise.
It seems safe to assume every statement of Johnson's is a lie? He lies in such a Santa Claus ho ho ho way it's almost enjoyable
Habitual Liar
Mans a fool.
The Tories have looked at the opinion polls, which shows that most northerners would still vote Tory in the next election anyway and decided they can withdraw their bribe, which they never really intended to honour in the first place, and save themselves a lot of money to divert to the Blue Wall constituencies instead. However, it completely undermines the entire HS2 and HS3 projects. But, after all, who cares anyway? So goes government thinking. All that matters are votes and how to con the public into supplying them at election time so the Tories can get their snouts in the trough.
All this work is why we are paying the price for the carbon footprint but the government can do what they like
How does HS2 help the environment?
Building it certainly doesn't.
