    PRS SE Guitars have moved from Korea to Indonesia. Build, QC and QA are still exceptionally high.

    Great video. I have this exact guitar, and got it for exactly the same reason you did. Mine is from 2013, when the SE range was still built at World Music factory in Korea. Over the years, I upgraded some of the parts. I played the guitar so much that I wore the chrome plating off the top of one of the bridge posts, just like you evidently did, which revealed some rather rough metal beneath. I decided to replace the bridge with a Tone Pros AVT2M-C (be sure to get the "M" one, for metric as this guitar uses metric units). It was a simple, drop-in replacement (you can use the existing bushings). The new bridge improved the tone and made the already good intonation even better. I also ended up replacing the pickup selector with a Switchcraft, and then did a JB/Jazz change on the pickups for more hard rock tone. Fantastic instrument.

    I bought the exact same model as you have! Just slightly later, with the redesigned headstock logos. I bought it because of your "Show Me The Way" cover, curiously enough. I'd watched that, then an identical SE245 turned up randomly on my Facebook Marketplace. I took that as a sign and bought it.
    It's been great! I got it cheap (£330, so about $560 Canadian) as it was a little neglected and dusty, but no damage and had hardly been played. A good clean, setup and fret polish later and it's a fine guitar. The only thing I had to replace was the bridge, because the chrome had started flaking off in sharp chunks. I fitted a Wilkinson GTB and that was a very worthwhile upgrade. Thanks for bring the SE245 to my attention!
    Incidentally, despite having a couple of Gibson SGs, the reason I still don't have a Gibson Les Paul is because I've never found one (short of a Custom Shop) that is as well made, solid, beautifully crafted and great playing as the Made In Japan Tokai "Love Rock" that I already have. If one of those ever comes your way, grab it with both hands!
    Keep up the great work, KDA. You and Rick Beato are my two favourite music channels by a mile. All the best to you and yours!

    Excellent playing. In case nobody else has mentioned it, the reason for the Gibson controls arrangement is that when you have adjusted the two volumes to give a blended sound, you can use your hand to roll the paur of volumes together to adjust the sound up or down, without changing the balance of the pickups.

    Hey there Kelly I really hope that PRS send you a brand new top of the range USA single cut guitar because the amount of influence and respect you have on TH-cam around the world is going to sell a lot of guitars for them. Your opinion is much valued as you are a professional player with a no nonsense attitude. You absolutely deserve a high end guitar from them. But the great thing is that you completely milk all the goodness out of the cheaper version and all the guitar snobs get all unsettled lol. Thanks for doing this demo, it’s great. 😉🌌💕🌅👌🏻

    I'm 62, started playing guitar when I was 13, I've always been a Les Paul guy and have owned several over the years. Hands down my favorite LP I currently have is a Wine Red with chrome hardware (not gold) Les Paul Studio. I swapped out the black pick guard and pickup rings to off white (cream) as I like this look over the stock look. It plays better then all the others I have owned. I snagged it used for $400 probably 15 years ago but you can get a nice clean used one all day long for $700 to $1000. Great guitar that will holds its value. I am interested in getting a PRE SE though.

    I went with a 1997 Les Paul Studio. From 1993 to 1997 they were basically a Les Paul Standard without the binding or inlaid logo. The earlier ones have ebony fretboards, but I'm happy with my rosewood. The modern Studios are built more down to a price, but still great guitars.

My LP went 6 months without being touched after my wife bought me the PRS. Yes I know, I’m lucky. 😂 the 245 to me is sorta like an LP with an SG neck. I love it… almost as much as I love my wife!

    I'm using a 2007 PRS SE doublecut with P90s. All mahogany set-neck with the PRS headstock design makes it a functionally better guitar than, say, a 1959 Les Paul Special IMO. Using Quilter amplification through a TOOB speaker.

  • @CAP21
    @CAP21 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I can’t speak regarding PRS, but I am quite familiar with Gibson Les Paul’s and all I can say is the quality control is the worst in the business. Mind numbing how they are so popular considering you have to pay $8,000+ to know you won’t get a lemon. 😞

    @slicksalmon6948 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I bought one of these several months ago after hearing you play it. No regrets. The newer models have a different bridge, which is adjustable. In my experience the pickups have just a bit of a P90 quality to them in that you can get them to play clear when you want them to. A PAF won't do that.
    The other LP killer is the Sire L7, which is also a mighty fine guitar.

    • @Pedro_MVS_Lima
      @Pedro_MVS_Lima ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You too, huh? It's a fantastic guitar in its price range. These newer models are made in Indonesia, not Korea. There is also the Vintage Burst finish which is the one I own. Beautiful.

    • @slicksalmon6948
      @slicksalmon6948 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Pedro_MVS_Lima Yep, me too! Since the introduction of the SE McCarty 594, the 245 has become the forgotten stepchild of the PRS lineup. The Standard that Kelly has is the more expensive of the two models because of the maple veneer. The all-mahogany model costs less than $700 (US).

    The tone your looking for with the type of music is in the PAF pickup. youd be likely looking for the classic gibson les pauls. Your so close to a gibson with this that its not even close to justifying the price for one? i wanted a gibson so bad but bought a taylor 314 ce instead. I figured i could get one later... nope lol but i do have one of these from a pawn shop and it hits so close im now looking for a fender 66 american classic jaguar.
