Spider-Man: No Way Home is a 2021 American superhero film based on the Marvel Comics character Spider-Man, co-produced by Columbia Pictures and Marvel Studios and distributed by Sony Pictures Releasing. It is the sequel to Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017) and Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019), and the 27th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). The film was directed by Jon Watts and written by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers. It stars Tom Holland as Peter Parker / Spider-Man alongside Zendaya, Benedict Cumberbatch, Jacob Batalon, Jon Favreau, Jamie Foxx, Willem Dafoe, Alfred Molina, Benedict Wong, Tony Revolori, Marisa Tomei, Andrew Garfield, and Tobey Maguire. In the film, Parker asks Dr. Stephen Strange (Cumberbatch) to use magic to make his identity as Spider-Man a secret again following its public revelation at the end of Far From Home. When the spell goes wrong because of Parker's actions, the multiverse is broken open, which allows visitors from alternate realities to enter Parker's universe.
A third MCU Spider-Man film was planned during the production of Homecoming in 2017. Negotiations between Sony and Marvel Studios to alter their deal-in which they produce the Spider-Man films together-ended with Marvel Studios leaving the project in August 2019, but a negative fan reaction led to a new deal between the companies a month later. Watts, McKenna, Sommers, and Holland were set to return, and filming took place from October 2020 to March 2021 in New York City and Atlanta. No Way Home features several actors reprising their roles from non-MCU Spider-Man films directed by Sam Raimi and Marc Webb, including previous Spider-Man actors Maguire and Garfield. The involvement of both actors was the subject of wide speculation and numerous leaks despite the efforts of Sony, Marvel, and the cast to conceal their involvement.
Spider-Man: No Way Home premiered at the Fox Village Theatre in Los Angeles on December 13, 2021, and was theatrically released in the United States on December 17, as part of Phase Four of the MCU. The film received generally positive reviews from critics and grossed over $1.9 billion worldwide, surpassing its predecessor as the highest-grossing film released by Sony Pictures. It became the highest-grossing film of 2021, the sixth-highest-grossing film of all time, the highest grossing Spider-Man film, and set several other box office records, including those for films released during the COVID-19 pandemic. The film received a nomination for Best Visual Effects at the 94th Academy Awards, among numerous other accolades. An extended version of the film, subtitled The More Fun Stuff Version, had a global theatrical release in September 2022. A sequel is in development.

20:00 something I liked that after Doc Ock mentioned his machine was missing, Peter said if Doc Ock calmed down, he would be happy to help find the machine. This shows he is always ready to first help or talk out with the villains, rather then start throwing punches, and it’s not all just by May.

With the college trilogy in development, and marvel and SONY seemingly in a better relationship and Kevin Feige collaborating with SONY on the future Sony universe movies, I believe we will see Tom Hardy venom show back up into the MCU to finally face off against Tom Holland in Tom’s eventual symbiote saga. Correct me if I’m wrong, but I don’t recall Octavius ever mentioning that Osborn died by his own glider. He just said that he died, which of course he would’ve had this knowledge in Spider-Man 2. Marko was the only one to mention how Osborn died, and since he was the only villain to survive post Spider-Man 3, it could be that he has that knowledge because when Harry’s butler Bernard Houseman told the truth to Harry, he must’ve also told the truth to news stations like the Daily Bugle. The only plot-hole from that moment is Octavius knowing that the Green Goblin was Norman Osborn. With the whole close friends telling each other secrets theory in mind, maybe Octavius had knowledge of the glider suit. The military in the first film knew about it, and maybe Osborn once told Octavius that he made that glider for himself or something (Octavius does say in this film that Osborn was misguided and greedy; he knows his dark side). Octavius must’ve put the pieces together that Norman Osborn was the Green Goblin, and he never told Harry the truth to protect him.

19:04 Dr Strange has been well established as reckless with the scene of him experimenting with the Time Stone without reading about the consequences.
This character flaw was addressed in Dr Strange 2 with him being faced with the reality of what giving the stone meant for the rest of the world.
Plus I've always believed that Electro knowing Peter's identity doesn't mean knowing what he looks like

The one other thing I want from Spidey in the MCU for the next few years is Peter insisting to a cameo that he'll remain a vigilante cause he's too close to the ground and people get hurt.
One more cameo just before he returns, so he can properly kick some backside and then, alright he can be reintegrated.
Tom's Spidey deserves some solo time, at least a trilogy with his newfound obscurity

  • @cleverpsyche115

CinemaWins suggested Sandman is from the future of the Raimi films, mainly based on him seemingly trying to jog Peter's memories, and the implication from that is that the news came out later after Spider-Man 3 due to Harry's death firmly confirming the Osborns as the Goblins. Doc Ock mentions Osborn's greed, so it's likely he figured it out and as another comment suggested, kept quiet to avoid hurting Harry.

  • @noahharris6724
    @noahharris6724 ปีที่แล้ว +13

My theories on why Ock knows Norman was the Green Goblin:
    1. He and Norman were friends and colleagues and Norman either told him about or showed him the performance enhancer, armor, and glider he was working on. When the Green Goblin showed up, Otto put two and two together and decided to keep it a secret out of loyalty to his friend.
    2. Bernard told him about it while he was developing the Sun Ball experiment for Oscorp.

No matter how I feel about the MCU Spider man movies, I will always disagree with the statement that Jon Watts doesn’t understand spider man. This man had to deal with constant studio and story mandates from Sony AND Disney, narrative decisions made with his version of spidey that he wasn’t aware of in other movies, constant script rewrites and scriptwriting decisions that he didn’t agree with, and scheduling overhauls just to name a few issues. Yet he still managed to put out some cohesive stories with some shining moments. Shoutout him. Real trooper

Electro is basically the nutty professor in terms of concept. in TASM2 he is a loser technician that becomes this cool powerful villain. And in No Way Home that is why he is the opposite to who he was because of the electricity he absorbed. Its subtle but you can see the more electricity he absorbed the more confident he becomes while when he was having it drained in the apartment he says he doesn't like how it feels, as he was having all his confidence taken away. It was like a drug. That is pretty much the concept there.

I remember reading a report that at the time of planning the Venom 2 end-credit scene, the plan was for Venom to be part of the villains. Which Sony changed as they went into production. The idea being that while he wasn't the Venom from Spider-man 3, the concept was meant to be that the symbiotes have a universal hive mind or something, which was what Venom was about to tell Eddie in the End credit scene before they got transported. And that the connection to other symbiotes across the multiverse is what brings that Venom into the MCU. The rest was gonna play out fairly similar with Eddie/Venom trying to get the box with Lizard, electro, sandman and Goblin. And at the end Venom was gonna save Tobey's Peter from dying after the stab wound. Because of Tobey's peters interaction with a symbiote in his universe, it would allow Venom to be able to save Peter's life. Which would result in Venom getting the Spidersymbol on his chest. Now the rumor is they may have changed this because of plans for Venom 3, in which they may use some of those universal ideas for that movie instead.

Great vid bro! However, one thing I disagree with you on is that, in regards to the villains, I think there’s more than enough evidence in the movie to support the idea that they’re simply variants of their prime universe counterparts. The only people I’m certain are the exact same versions from the previous films are Tobey, Andrew, and Venom. I say this because they all acknowledge their past experiences beyond what we saw in their films (Tobey saying he and MJ eventually worked things out and Andrew talking about how he became bitter after Gwen died.) and in the Extended Cut of the film Andrew says “With this job there’s so many things I wish I did differently.” and Tobey responds “Yeah, but to have a second chance…” this is them acknowledging the events of the previous films and the significance of the villains being here. I say all this because if these villains were the exact same ones from their films then Tobey and Andrew would not be saying any of this because their respective timelines would be completely changed. If anything, I think these villains being variants makes the process of Tobey and Andrew curing them even more impactful and bittersweet. Once these villains are cured, Tobey and Andrew will return home and nothing about their reality will change. For Tobey, Norman and Otto will still be dead and for Andrew, Dillon as well, but they can find solace in the fact that they made life better for a version of not only their foes, but themselves too. Do I think the movie could’ve been more explicit about this? Absolutely! But this was just my takeaway.

    • @borjankosarac3645
      @borjankosarac3645 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Besides possibly Sandman, each of them could create a tangibly new timeline:
      * Norman surviving would have a huge impact on Peter and Harry; he could probably also have helped prevent his Otto falling to villainy based on his knowledge.
      * Otto similar to above, if not to the same extent; but also, if he brings the arc reactor back with him imagine the impact outside of mere narrative stuff…
      * If Connors was pulled before he killed Captain Stacey (which is possible), maybe a happier timeline for Peter and Gwen as people can actually sort their stuff out.
      * Max Dillon popping back alive could, MAYBE, throw off GG-Harry killing Gwen…
All this is speculation but in fairness, it’s not the point of it all; the point was giving the villains a CHANCE to change their fates for the better. Which is wholesome if not outright uplifting, no?

Part of me thinks that in ASM2, Harry might have told Electro that Spiderman was Peter Parker while they were doing their evil plot together, which at the very least would give Electro a name, but not a face (which could explain away why he thought Peter might be black). But then that's just filling in the plot holes again.
(Edit) Never mind. Did a quick check of ASM2 and Harry doesn't find out Peter is Spiderman until the end of the movie. So yeah, there's no way Electro would have learned it from him.

@ChannelPup I'm the perfect example of this. I watched NWH before seeing Tobey or Andrew's movies (I knew the basics of what happened with those characters like Gwen dying in TASM2) yet I still understood and enjoyed their characters very much. Andrew does a terrific job selling how tormented he is over Gwen's death. So seeing him get a second chance by saving MJ, despite having no real knowledge of his and Gwen's relationship, was still an incredibly powerful moment.
Doc Ock's redemption was the only thing (aside from inside jokes and references) that didn't quite work for me without seeing the movie he came from. His turn felt too quick because I didn't realize the role his arms played in corrupting him.
What I respect this movie the most for though, is that they didn't lose sight of Tom Holland's Spidey. This was his movie, the conclusion to his origin story. For all the movies faults and sloppy writing, they nailed that aspect and I adore this movie for it.

Good thing me and my family were able to see this on our own when watching it the first time because me and my brother were going nuts throughout a good chunk of it, we were pretty much screaming when Tobey and Andrew showed up and when Andrew saved MJ, definitely my favorite theater experience with Sonic 2 and Mario right after (I wish I could say Endgame, but my mom would’ve been annoyed if I didn’t shut up while the movie was going and no one wants their mom annoyed at them, wish I knew she’d be fine with it if I just spaced the reactions out though, I would’ve practically screamed when Cap lifted Mjolnir and when he said “Avengers Assemble”)

Because from interviews from Marc Webb we know that electrio survived his encounter with Spiderman. So I could see that maybe he and Spider-Man had another fight when he became vengeful.

My only problems with Nwh is the early half of the film with the college part and the spell segment. I wanted to see Spidey on trial and how they shiffed to college was jarring when I saw it in theater as for the spell. Dr.strange trusting a teenager to be responsible and think about what they're doing was insane to me that he didn't ask any questions at all before doing the spell but after that the movie went back to a high point and then kicked into high gear with all the spidey bros on screen

Not defending Disney here but the context that’s left out is that Disney both provides 25% of the budget and receives 25% of the profit. (Same with their 50% negotiation) So Sony would still be doing better than TASM 2 on ROI at that point. But anyway, it’s all a moot point now.

Really the main thing I’d change about this movie (ok, along with a better explanation for how Electro is here and why he acts so differently) is less suits. I’ve said this many times now but I stand by that the Integrated and especially the Black and Gold suits were very unnecessary, they did not at all need to exist. Admittedly I might be a bit biased because I freaking loved the Upgraded suit and seriously wished we could’ve had more time with it’s normal version, so I wish they just cut the Integrated and Black and Gold suits out, have Peter be in the Upgraded suit for most of the movie aside from the ending with the Final Swing suit, and with his fight with Doc Ock in the Iron Spider because the tech in the suit actually gave a legitimate reason to bring it back so Peter can unknowingly use it to win the fight, even if I also would’ve liked to see Peter fight Otto in the Upgraded suit and use more of his ingenuity to win with a more back to basics suit but it definitely would’ve meant a new method for Peter to win that isn’t taking control of Otto’s arms

A quick Google shows that they were actually quite cheap, FFH coming in at 175m. You can effectively add that to Sony's profits as they would have saved half and you double for marketing. I imagine Disney already handled a lot of marketing already, but let's play best case scenario.

I just want to mention that Sony was the true winner when it came to the *_Spider-Man_* deal with Disney: Disney was being way too greedy and wanted more money from Sony's films, to which Sony said no (obviously).
Disney's a huge conglomerate and was still making billions off of the properties they own (for the most part), so wanted a 50/50 split of profits from the Sony films, and wanting more creative control wasn't gonna fly with Sony. Then they (Disney) were acting like a bitter ex-girlfriend over losing Spider-Man because Sony said no to their deal.
Obviously, Disney (probably hesitantly) agreeing to getting only 25% of the profits from the films with Sony agreeing to that gave Sony the opportunity to properly close out their first MCU trilogy in the way that it did, while subtly giving Disney a few middle fingers here and there such as referring to Tom Holland's Spider-Man as "Iron Man Jr" in the *_No Way Home_* film itself, and cutting him off from the safety net with the Avengers, making him completely independent just like classic Spider-Man.

And Ned replies "Yeah, because we're actually friends with Spider-Man." Also I don't think Peter chose not to tell Ned and MJ who he was because it would be difficult to convince them, he didn't tell them because he realized they were kind of better off without him in their lives. as much as i love the original tobey Spider-Man 1 which did the origin perfectly . mcu Spider-Man definitely did a great job in fleshing out the responsibility and sacrifice themes by slowly starting from minor issues like missing dates and quiz competitions to getting his friends lives in danger and losing aunt may.

Which is the character I feel it makes more sense to compare her to in context of NWH. Since she essentially fills both roles. Personally it made the difference of me feeling for Peter when his Uncle died in Raimi and, especially, Webb vs. Feeling bad for Peter but also mourning the loss of May herself as a character.
