It is a feel good factor, when you hear a foreigner speaking Kannada firstly. I am a Bangalorean by birth but Mysore has the tradition of Karnataka and I agree with you. I personally feel your Hindi is fluent than Kannada, maybe with some more help you could get better with Kannada. Bangalore has multilingual culture and that is why people like the city and ofcourse for the pubs and breweries 🙂

Btw, the Guru Sweet Stall, that you mention, is famous for its mouth watering Mysore Pak. In fact, it was the grandfather of the present owner of the place who invented the sweet.
Great to know that you put in all the effort to learn the local language. As you observed, a lot of Indians living in Bangalore don't put in the effort. Mysore is definitely a great City.
