One of the best movies of the past 5 years. It's been a long time since I've had that feeling of watching something really original. Great job to everybody involved in this movie.
as soon as i finished this movie i called my brother, he had already seen it, and we talked for hours about it. It truly is a wonderful movie, only other time i did that was watching the dark knight again.
Jesus man, you've obviously never seen a masterpiece or have very low standards. Or are you a ten year old that is taken in totally by brilliant images ? It has a shit script buster. Go see some great films and learn what a 'masterpiece' really means
This movie feels a lot like District 9 did. All shot with consumer cameras, very vfx heavy, lots of on location shooting, relatively small budget for the scale.
yes, all the real locations really set this movie apart from so many of today's sci fi movies and shows that look like they're just on a sterile set with green screen
Flawed? Sure. Didn't stop it from rising to be one of my most favorite movies I've seen in years. I love the world building and the emotional heart of the story.
Madeliene’s breakout performance was simply nuke-sized (no pun)! So many tear/heart tugging moments. The moment she said “Am I going to [spoiler word]?” just really, really got in my feels! Fantastic movie!
@@tmmnago2722 She’s 9 now. She filmed the movie when she was 7 and auditioned for it when she was 6. Info from IMDB. Well deserving of many accolades. So talented!
Bro really handled the FX3 himself. What a moment in film making. This is the biggest, if not one of the biggest advertisement for Sony entry level pocket cinema cameras.
I love how some people hated it and some people thought it was a masterpiece, those are the movies that are thought provoking and usually win best picture at the academy awards.😊
I really love how much talk this movie is getting. I wasn't a huge fan of the story, but I think this was an example of a Director knowing what they wanted and knowing how to execute it. Everything from the acting, lighting, costume, set design, etc just blended beautifully. It's movies like this that actually ignite my passion for filmmaking. If it wasn't already clear... I recommend giving it a watch.
I've seen this movie twice in theaters already and I've recommended it basically to everyone I know. It sure has it flaws but the world building, visual effects, cinematography and soundtrack are flawless. Huge shoutout to Allison Janney and Madeleine Yuna Voyles for their top notch performances as well. I haven't enjoyed a sci-fi movie this much since Bladerunner 2049.
One of the best films I’ve seen in the past few years. The cinematography, lighting, visual effects, composition, score etc… we’re just amazing. It felt the closest to a film from the 1980’s that I’ve seen in a while.
I don't even know that song (Everything In Its Right Place) very well - but I was just familiar enough with it to recognise that gorgeously spine-tingling electric piano intro as soon as it kicked in. Yes, it worked brilliantly - and it was quite bold just to drop that in to the score. I assume Gareth Edwards is a fan.
Greetings from Germany, I just watched the film on Apple TV. What a wonderful film, this is by far one of the best films of modern times. Great, a masterpiece. I had to cry.
@@giantdad391 I can see why - the character development was pretty weak. There were times where I wanted to hate on the movie, but the low budget and the cameras they used has me geeking out over how cool it turned out with low budget stuff.
No movie needs to have more than a $100 million budget. There's SO much grifting and skimming that goes on with these $300m+ budgeted films, you have no idea. All you have to do is look at "The Creator" and what this film looks like for $80m to understand that studios have zero excuses for over-budgeting some films the way they do. Of course, it also helped that Edwards didn't cast a major star as the lead.
@@redadamearthEric Idle was asked about big budgets and said something to the effect of "it's harder for certain people involved in the film to steal money if the film only has a small budget"
Excellent movie!!! I was entertained the entire time. That's my singular standard nowadays as to whether a movie is worth it or not, is whether it can keep me entertained and engaged throughout its entire course and run time. It's no more or less than you can ask for these days. And this one passed with flying colors. A visual feast in almost every scene, an engaging story, compelling characters and not a wasted line of dialogue. Well done Gareth and team!!
The fact that they shot on the Sony FX3, on comparatively very inexpensive tech, gimbals, simple dollies, etc. - that gives so much courage to small filmmakers. I love it so much.
Thought-provoking storyline. Amazing cinematography. An entertaining sci-fi with a heart sort of movie. Love all the locations captured on film. Enjoy it on the big screen.👍
*This movie is a great technology achievement. For only 80 million dollars in production, I saw a movie of at least 300 million value, and it was rejuvenating!*
groundness and dirty realism of the movie was mindblowing. i really loved the movie, but more i read about how much was cut from the story, the more i wonder if the artists that saw the rough cut, saw the better version of the story when more info was in it.
@@KenrickBlock about 3+ hours of story apparently (which would explain why it is so rushed at times, and especially towards the end when we jump around almost at random)
Saw this in IMAX and was blown away by the end of it. So insane what Gareth Edwards and the vfx team were able to do on this budget. So worth seeing in theaters. Will be buying this on 4k as soon as it drops.
What an incredible film! I usually don’t like this type of film. But it turned out it has one of my favourite actresses from the series “MOM” as I was watching the very beginning of the film. it has so much empathy and emotion! And it’s not just about violence and killing. it is a master peices! Xx
This is such a good film. I was looking forward to watching it, but I couldn't have imagined the calibre of the narrative, cast, director and effects. One of my all time favourites. Namaste x
i give this the stamp of a future classic its a benchmark hard to achieve at this time ...like Batman Begins or a 7 or Aliens, Logans Run, westworld , Dune, Blade Runner, Apocalypse now
7:41 I'm glad that they did go to locations as it made the film believable as a way the future could look like a world lived in where it's not messed up beyond all recognition. The world-building was good (some buildings look like the Architecture from Mass Effect games), the acting was on par, and the action was also good. The Resurrection tech was interesting; however, I'll say this: it had echoes of the USA war against Vietnam, with AI becoming the National Liberation Front of South Vietnam or (Viet cong). Thank you for the confirmation, Mr. Ed.
Saw it today. Production design, Fx off the charts. Instant genre classic for sure. But I really thought the connections between the characters should/could have been stronger - especially the little girl and Mom and Dad. The empathy was too expected from the audience and not developed.

I so hope we get a Gareth Edwards extended version when this hits consumer release, I could easily watch a 3.5 hour version.
Doubt it, the film was cut then cg added. For more scenes to be added it will cost massive bucks.
no need the CG, i’d watch the original offline just to get his first director’s cut

masterpiece ofc in visual department. but story and the script is mediocre. I expected a lot.
far from a masterpiece in my opinion but for the budget the CGI was untouchable, something rare to see nowadays

Madeleines acting is super relatable, realistic and very effective. This movie deserve and award... from cast and everything.
The importance Gareth gives to the realism in capturing the truth of human emotions using natural surroundings in his cinema is truly remarkable.
