if its a server running windows, you can update from within the OS. Just log into the DRAC, mount the ISO then log into the server via the console. look at the files in the ISO and launch the .exe file. then youll be able to choose which updates you want or dont want. Good video, but I would have rather have seen you do the actual update
BTNHD, thank you for your instructions. Would like to add, if you are upgrading via USB stick using the LifeCycle controller, or via Idrac, my version of idrac / lifecycle controller did not recognize the .bin files. Use the .exe files instead, even if its VMware, or some other baremetal OS. ALSO do not have the lifecycle controller open when trying to upgrade via Idrac, it will wait for you to exit the Lifecycle controller before it trys to apply the updates. Dell install instructions are just plain poorly written and not clear. Why cant their install instructions just say "install with a USB stick through the life cycle controller or via iDRAC"?, Nope, they have install instructions for doing it through a bare metal windows systems or Redhat. ESXi is not Redhat, even though its linux based. Its just not clear at all. Thank you again!
Hey brother, you have any videos on automating any processes of this, for Windows 10, using the MDT/WDS and Dell's Command Line? If you have a vid, can you please direct me to it?
I'm tried to update the R620's lifecycle, but something gone wrong, i guess, After that the lifecycle don't load anymore. in the bios the server show a menssage that idrac is not available, do you know a way to make a downgrade in a lifecycle firmware ? I had success to boot my operacional system (CentOS 6), now i'm looking for a way to make this firmware resistalation via shell. Thankyou.
Hi, I have a problem with the Dell R630 server. When I want to reinstall the OS, I can't get the error message "pc1 1360 and 1318", can anyone help me?
You can approach this in many ways. I prefer doing everything manually to see how everything works. Automation is great but sometimes it can cause issues. Thanks for watching. Be safe.
I'm new to server configuration, and I'm very thankful that I found your channel. Thank you so much! ;)
The Dell PowerEdge R620 is a great machine. I might have to purchase another one 🤔
Just got mine yesterday, now to change it to really make it mine ;-)
