Awesome review, man, seeing this really makes me want to get into the series. I've only ever played Meruru, which was awesome, and it looks like this one is even better.
Based on what I've heard, this seems to be the best Atelier game released this generation. I don't like it as much as Ar Tonelico or Mana Khemia, but I do prefer it over Atelier Iris 1 and 2.
Man I can always depend on you to review the games I'm most interested in jumping into. So as you know I have been playing a lot of the MGS games recently and decided I'd like to play a console RPG before jumping into MGS3 to avoid getting burnt out and after staring at my shelf for what seemed like forever I decided on Escha & Logy. I preordered this game because I am an avid supporter of Gust and wanted to finish it before the end of 2014 anyway. Only 4 or 5 hours in and I am blown away, I'm a fan of the Atelier games but this one is just doing so much right IMO. Great review and I'm glad the game opens up and gets even better because I think it started strong and I'm really enjoying it. Great review as always my friend. Ps. I finished Star Ocean first departure and you were right, awesome game! Can't wait to start Second Evolution soon but I'm playing the new One Piece game on Vita first.
Cracklotus MGS3 is my favorite game in the series, one of my favorite games of all time actually, You surely won't be dissapointed!I am a big fan of Gust and I kind of fell out of love with them because of Ar Tonelico Qoga. However after playing Escha & Logy it reminded me why I love their games so much. I am glad you're digging the game and enjoyed the review man!Dude trust me, if you thought First Departure was awesome, Second Evolution is even better, you will really dig it!By the way, my review of Nier is uploading right now and should be up sometime soon. =)
Played Ayesha & Altelier: Totori for the Vita. The stories are silly, but are enjoyable, I really loved the battles, and how they interact with one another. The alchemy part is cool, just go online to check out the recipes for the best gear. I'll get this one later, great review dude.
Gust crafted some amazing combat systems for their PS2 games. I was worried the transition to full 3D would be too much for them given how poor the combat was for Ar Tonelico Qoga, but Escha and Logy (once it gets going) has some great combat.
Great review, glad to see you enjoyed this game. Got to agree with the localization problem though, especially some misleading words they use for describing a few things in the side assignments. and yeah, sky of twilight is a pretty awesome track.
Although I prefer Dusk over the Arland trilogy myself, I'm still going to complete the first three before getting back to this one :) Your review is really excellent! I tried to avoid spoilers so I only listened to what you've said while playing my handheld. I was extremely surprised by how much I enjoyed Ayesha last year that I'd no doubt Escha & Logy will be just as engaging! The music alone was an enough reason for me to love that game >w< It was called Mystic Pendulum by Rurutia! SO GOOD :) Hope you can give that game a try this year, Shintai!
I haven't played a single GUST-game since Mana Khemia 2 on the PS2... I'm going to give this one a try. In fact, I'm downloading it right now. It looks really fun. The main problem I had looking at footage of the other PS3 Atelier-games, especially the earlier ones like Rorona and Totori, the battles looked really floaty. In this one, it actually looks like each hit has some weight and it looks satisfying to fight. I've also heard the characters in this one are a lot better than previous entries, which is good since the Atelier series were always pretty character-driven. I'm excited to get into a game made by whom I used to consider one of my favourite developers.
Back on the PS2, I fell in love with Gust. The only game I haven't played by them on the PS2 is Atelier Iris 3, but I beat every other game and I loved all of them. However when I got my hands on Ar Tonelico Qoga, I was extremely dissapointed and it put me off from Gust games for a long time. This game however, has given me a new sense of hope for the developers because this game was just great.
Oh dood I really like your vids. I've been glancing towards the Series ever since you were chatting about Gust with Aero and Greg. Though I've not gotten around to it yet. Backlogg is my enemy. Would you rather send a newbie to the Arland series or Dusk? Mana Khemia and Iris are quite pricy in my country so that might not be my first choice
I am glad you like my videos! That discussion on RPGibberish was quite a long time ago, that was back when I was using my old crappy mic, haha. I haven't played any of the Arland games so I can't say, but the Dusk games seem to be a good place to start I feel.
I think alchemy is a really cool and fun concept, it's why I am a fan of this developer since alot of their games have complex and intricate alchemy systems.
I was looking forward to play a title of this long running franchise, and now I have on PC Sophie and Firis to choose between.Unhappily if the reviews are accurate these new ones aren't so good as the older ones. Its a shame they still not ported this title. As I've had listening this is probably the best character plot on Atelier series, and that's one of the most praised features for me on a Rpg.
I found the time limit terrifying because I had no clue there was a forth year and that I only needed to finish the main tasks lol. I thought I had failed on the last month because I had 2 days and I just finished the main tasks boy was I shocked about having a year to finish any unfinished tasks that weren't main.
I have played Atelier Totori for the PS Vita and I loved it. I bought the sequel Atelier Meruru as well but I havent got the time to play it yet. And Of course I went ahead of myself and bought Atelier Escha and Logy as well for the PS3. Thought I doubt I will play the game till I find a copy of Atelier Ayesha since I don't wanna feel weird playing The Dusk Series without touching the first one. On a side note, I loved the review. I heard they simplified the Alchemy more compared to the earlier Atelier series.
I know the atelier games get a lot of flack since they seem to come out with one at least every year, but I'm happy this game turned out to be a solid experience and I picked it up the moment it came out.
I haven't played any of the other Atelier games that came out this generation, like Rorona, Totori, Meruru and Ayesha, but I did enjoy the titles Gust put out on the PS2 a great deal such as Atelier Iris 1 and 2, Mana Khemia 1 and 2 and Ar Tonelico 1 and 2. I think Gust is a great developer, I just wish they got funded better.
I've never been into the Atelier Games, but your review kinda sparked my interest in this one. It seems to have something more going for it. Would you recomend it to me, taking in consideration the fact that although I really liked Star Ocean The Last Hope, I was never interested in the crafting system, I skipped it entirely since it was optional. Is the alchemy system too tedious? Would it really put me off the game? I'm not against it entirely, but I don't want it to become annoying.
The alchemy in the game is crucial to the gameplay. I never found it tedious personally, but it's hard to say if you will or not since it's ostensibly not for everyone. It's something you're going to be doing a lot in the game as it is NOT optional and if you're feeling hesitant because of that it might not be for you.
***** Like I said, I'm not totally against it, especially if it's fun. I agree with many of your opinions on reviews in general, so, if it didn't seem tedious to you, I probably won't have anything against it. Besides, I'm in the mood to try new things. Last time I took a "risk" like this, I got into turn-based RPGs and the Persona games. Talk about worth it!
CyclonusTheProwl Alright then, I would say this game more than the others that I've played is the most accessible with this kind of gameplay, so you're definitely better off picking this one up.
Good review. I was actually afraid of the recent Ateliers because of the Time Management. I only played the Iris ones, so the newer ones scared me because of it. I may try this one thanks to this review.
i looked at this game a while back and was left confused by many of the reviews. I thought it was an alchemy focused monster hunter style game not a fully fledged rpg. Though the lack of plot focus is quite disturbing to me. it'll probably be on my consideration list along with LOH trials in the sky but not on my must have list.
If you want something plot driven, this is not the game for you. It does have plot for sure and it does tie up well at the end, but this game is more about Escha and Logy themselves. I'd say give the game a chance when it goes down in price if you're feeling hesitant about it. It takes a little while for it to really get going, but once it does the game becomes a ton of fun.
Great review. I enjoyed the game. Its my favorite in the Atelier series and it was refreshing to finally have a male lead to play as. Its too bad the next Atelier will have two females as the lead, but i'm still excited.
Atelier Iris: Eternal Mana had a male lead and Atelier Iris 2: The Azoth of Destiny had two leads, one male one female just like Escha and Logy, but you mainly played as the male lead. I am not sure about Atelier Iris 2: Grand Phantasm though, I haven't played it yet, need to get my hands on a copy.
Do you think this game is a good start for a newbie of the series ? Also, I was wondering if you're gonna do a review or a First Impressions of JoJo's Bizzarre Adventure : All Star Battle
I never played an Atelier game before... Would you recommend this series even to someone who is mostly into story driven JRPGs? I know Atelier games aren`t really known to have epic stories, but is it really mostly gameplay or is there more to it? It`s not that i cannot enjoy a JRPG that hasn`t a great Story, sometimes amazing characters and their interactions (say Graces F) can make an amazing experience, but i need at least some kind of main plot. (I heard Sophie has a more traditional JRPG esque Story!?)
I havent played Sophie, but if you like good characters then you'll enjoy this game I think. They're all very charming and likable. There IS a plot btw, it just isn't the main focus.
hi man can you tell atelier games is the best in you opinion, is it Atelier Escha and Logy: Alchemists of the Dusk Sky or Atelier Meruru: The Apprentice of Arland ^_^ btw: great review :)
***** oh... ok, thanks anyway, i will see if i can buy Atelier Meruru since its the cheaper of the two, its going to be my first time playing an atelier game ^_^ i just heard the music sky of twilight and its prety good i like it X)
Out of all the JRPGs which exist, why this one? I mean... you can find countless others that have garnered more fame and praise for good reason. Just kind of a weird choice. I would've recommended something from the PS1 or PS2 era.
OmegaMetroid93 Here you go man, here's the full version dl-web.dropbox.com/get/Public/Mondo%20Theme%20Song%20Full%20Final.mp3?_subject_uid=62120038&w=AACWNN0MH13FcqZdCXNfXlFDFQN-q7BQdW6lcK5f2p5s1g
Crap, and I sold my copy of the game, the battles and attacks look amazing later on, If only I would of given it a chance and stuck through the first half. Oh well a least I can watch the TV Anime version. By the way do Escha and Logy get together In the end ?
I am not sure if the anime will be as enjoyable as the game, I am not really sure how something like that could work.Umm, yes and no, the game has multiple endings.
Well, some of the games take place after each other, like Rorona, Totori and Meruru (in that order) and Escha & Logy takes place after Ayesha, but I don't think you need to play the games in any real order.

It was a solid review, I came to a solid decision of getting it thanks to you.
Glad to hear it!
Need to get back to playing this game so I can make my own review. Great job dude.
Thanks man, looking forward to your review.

Sky of Twilight is made of pure win and awesome.

Definitely give it a shot!

I haven't played any of the Arland games so I can't say, but the Dusk games seem to be a good place to start I feel.
I remember Secret of Evermore, had Alchemy based magic which was pretty cool.
I think alchemy is a really cool and fun concept, it's why I am a fan of this developer since alot of their games have complex and intricate alchemy systems.
I think the Witcher had a good alchemy system you may like that game, its pretty cool.
I've heard mixed things about the other games. This one did get a Vita port that was atually a little better than the PS3 version though.

I thought I had failed on the last month because I had 2 days and I just finished the main tasks boy was I shocked about having a year to finish any unfinished tasks that weren't main.
The time limit is not as strict as it seems.
Are you going to be doing a review of dusk sea sometime soon?
+DeadSF I haven't played it yet, sadly.
I have played Atelier Totori for the PS Vita and I loved it. I bought the sequel Atelier Meruru as well but I havent got the time to play it yet.

I dunno about simplified, definitely different from the ones I played.
And 8 years after, how had it been?
Very nice reviews. I really like your style, good job!
Thanks! I do what I can.

amolsol The time management had me skeptical at first, but it ended up being not nearly as bad as I expected.
***** Awesome. How much is it going for now?
amolsol It's around the $40 range atm.
***** YES! WOO! Gotta love $40 and below game prices. Ahahaha
Just looked up "Sky of Twilight" and I definitely agree that the song is awesome.
Hell yeah, that song is awesome.
i looked at this game a while back and was left confused by many of the reviews. I thought it was an alchemy focused monster hunter style game not a fully fledged rpg. Though the lack of plot focus is quite disturbing to me.

But yeah this game is great for newcomers.
Ok thanks ^_^

btw: great review :)
Aside from this one, I've only played Atelier Iris 1 and 2 which are both really good btw.

oh... ok, thanks anyway, i will see if i can buy Atelier Meruru since its the cheaper of the two, its going to be my first time playing an atelier game ^_^
i just heard the music sky of twilight and its prety good i like it X)
OtakuMonster9366 Sky of Twilight is so good!
welp i bought it just now u convinced me this is gonna be my first JRPG hope it's good
I hope you like it. =)

It's an original song made by a friend
