    Feels like a coordinated effort from the league and team. The team and the league are having a lot of issues dealing with these type of PR issues. Her actions should be judged more than these words. If she continues to support anti-LGBTQ+ causes, but not openly on social media, will we ever know? Her teammates who are members I hope they feel safe. Seems to be a lot happening behind the scenes in Minnesota that could cause issues.

    I agree with the one person as an actual apology would be more productive, but let’s call this a start

      It's true, if you have friends/family who are marginalized and treated unfairly, you are not likely to come out with statements or jump on board with people who do the marginalizing. Sigh.

      By addressing it publicly it shows she's aware. Hopefully it shows thoughtfulness about future decisions she makes regarding social media "likes". One piece of advice for Britta is not to create an alternate social media profile to peruse, post or share potentially objectionable content. It will ALWAYS come back to haunt you and possibly shorten a promising career.
      Just focus on that career. It goes by fast and at the end of it, if you still want consume such material...well, it is your right, but I hope you go into it with much more personal experience and wisdom.

      To be fair, there's a lot of "my friend, teammate, family member is an exception" or "I don't view them 'that' way" rationalization. Hell, there's people married to women and minorities who are misogynists/sexist.

    How to Apologize
    Tell the person you're sorry for what you did, even if it wasn't on purpose.
    Own what you did without trying to explain it away. It takes away from an apology
    if you follow up with an excuse or explanation for why you did what you did.
    Let them know you regret it.
    Make a statement about it not happening again. 😮
    Did she nail it?

      No, but perhaps she will, in time? Perhaps teammates and friends help her see how we are all just human and no one wants or deserves to be hurt or shamed. Meanwhile, I am going to watch her amazing hockey skill. There’s no point really in pushing people further to their fringes. We’ve seen how that’s worked so far.

    She did more than I thought she would. I have seen her play on countless occasions against my Minnesota Gophers. She is one of the best players from the WCHA that I have ever seen. I was excited and that Minnesota got such a dynamic and tough player and at the same time wondering how this would all play out with the fans and her new teammates. It's unfortunate that she "liked" these hate filled posts, but I give her credit for not commenting on them or posting that crap herself. I hated her as a player because she wore a Wisconsin jersey but now, after her comments and that she will now wear a Minnesota jersey, I'm willing to give her a chance. I would like to hear from GameDay Hockey what you think.

    • @gamedayhockey
      @gamedayhockey  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

      I think there is still some concern about the harm she's done and that she is not finished learning. Should she be given grace, yes, should she get a platform to be a "role model" until she has shown that growth, I don't know. I don't like the word 'lifestyle' - queer, trans, marginalized people are not living a lifestyle choice, they are trying to be themselves in a world that makes it very difficult. She is in a privileged position and has alienated many. I am willing to watch and see what happens, I hope the experience of seeing the inclusion of this league helps her and all of us continue learning to find out how similar we are. If you have time, look up Maya Angelou's "Love Liberates" video. Thanks Richard.

    • @leecox6241
      @leecox6241 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      The use of ´lifestyle’ screams of ignorance! 😮 One chooses a lifestyle. A lifestyle is, for example, living in Spain half the year, having your dentistry practice on your sailboat, having lunch with the girls at sumptuous restaurants five days a week, living in a cabin in the woods etc. It is how you live. It is not who you love. That is predetermined in utero depending upon the type and amount of hormones that are released by the mother. The upcoming science of epigenetics does not lie. So like left-handed ness, shortness or red hair, sexuality is pre-determined. It is what it is. Besides, no one would choose to be queer knowing how society would treat them, now would they? I rest my case.

    • @Too-Odd
      @Too-Odd 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@leecox6241 I understand your point, but epigenetics doesn't say as much as you think it does. In fact, it could be used as a counter argument to your statement.

    She didn't express any true remorse for the consequences of her actions. Saying you have LGBTQ or BIPOC friends doesn't absolve her of biases. I do truly hope that she learns and grows and uses this as an opportunity. The reality is, her actions were hurtful, and no members of these communities are required to forgive or forget.

    • @Too-Odd
      @Too-Odd 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You don't have biases? Get real. Even saying LGBTQ+ puts everyone into the same boat, and from my experience, they are not one group with one goal and one thought.
      I have been supporting rights of minorities literally since I was three years old. I have been supporting gay/lesbian rights since I was in Jr. High School. I do not believe biological men should play in women's sports or dress with women, or young girls in some cases, in locker rooms. That isn't transphobic. It isn't anti-LGBTQ. It isn't some sort of discrimination. It isn't religion (I am agnostic). It is science.

    There needs to be a conversation with her, an interview. She needs to be asked direct questions and she needs to give direct, honest answers. Did she say things, and like people’s social media posts out of immaturity or does she really believe what she said? There are lots of questions in my opinion, that still need to be answered.

    Actions speak louder than words so I'll reserve my judgement for now and see how the off-season and into the new season goes. Part of me also thinks that she knows she has to be smarter about what she does publicly going forward. The reaction of fans from her getting drafted is an indication to everyone involved that fans won't tolerate that behaviour, especially not when the league prides itself on being fully inclusive. What happened to Anthony Bass, former Toronto Blue Jays player, came to mind, was let go and never played in MLB again.

      So help me out here: her social posts have called transgender people perverts, and then her video states that she has no hatred or I’ll will towards any group. She’s also stated that anyone who disagrees with her is a weirdo. Can all of these be true at the same time?

    • @gamedayhockey
      @gamedayhockey  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      @@jeffreyc1971 Not at the same time, but maybe those are more in the past. I'm trying my best to stay in some very shaky middle ground. I didn't want her to be drafted, I hoped she might learn from a job or experience somewhere before continuing in the public eye. But she is a fantastic hockey player. There are people in this league and everywhere else with views that we don't appreciate, but surely there is a middle ground, we love our families, we (here) love hockey. Hopefully we don't want to hurt anyone and we don't assume we know everything yet. Maybe we can start there?

    It’s a start, but I would need to see some positive engagement with the community from Curl, otherwise it will appear to be empty words. Also, Klee’s draft choices besides just Curl given the players available looks bizarre. As beat writer Rachel Blount noted, I’m no longer certain the league really understands or values the Minnesota market. This has all entirely ruined the championship joy.

    • @Too-Odd
      @Too-Odd 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The draft certainly was peculiar. Minnesota tried desperately not to take Minnesota players even when they were the best player available.
      How could the PWHL allow Minnesota to go into a draft without a GM? What caused the rifts in the team? Why are a few players allowed to force a GM out?

  • @Daemonkryn
    @Daemonkryn 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +14

    She doesn't even apologize! If she said "I'm sorry for the things I did and said. I can see now that I was wrong and caused harm to the community. I will try to do better and be better in the future." that would be an apology. What she says is "I recognize that my social media activity has resulted in hurt...and I want to apologize for that." She never says she's sorry for what she did; she says she's sorry for the result. Big difference.

    • @jeffreyc1971

    Her use of the term "lifestyle" is a good indicator for me. I sense neither Minnesota, nor the league, expected the overwhelming negative response (for some unfathomable reason). Even more cringe was Minnesota parading a queer woman from the organization on stage to draft her...PR is working overtime here. Aldo, maybe lose the smirk/grin when starting this type of statement. Her actions moving forward will be the true indication.

    I would always be willing to give people a second chance to not only apologize but to prove themselves. I am NOT a fan of canceling anyone for the poop that happens on Social Media. She is a great hockey player that has done some things that go against the exclusivity of this new league. If she does it again, she will be gone from the league and the only place she could play would be Russia. She knows all this and I think she will do well and keep her head down. Watch what happens when she scores her first goal, will the fans cheer? Will her teammates hug her? Or will the venue go silent as she is ignored by her team? We all know as soon as she scores most of this will go away. More that anything we all want our team to win...In the end that is all that matters. She did not commit a crime. No child abductions, no rapes, no stabbings, no "Blue Collar" crimes, no financial crime, and that makes this a nothing burger except with those that want to make it a problem...And I know you are out there just waiting to pounce on her for anything. Enjoy the hockey and for 2 hours forget the politics.😃😃😃😃😃

      This is a perfectly reasonable viewpoint. I definitely don't want anyone to make it worse but it seems that we are all addicted to conflict at this point. She does need to take some responsibility and hopefully show some growth, but in the hockey arena, she is a great player and will do great for her team. It's too bad that Minnesota added this to the mix of PR problems they are having. And I will definitely enjoy the hockey! Appreciate the thoughtful response.

      All professional sports leagues have rules in place against hate speech. That would include social media posts. Although, I do not agree with Britta Curl on what she choose to "LIKE" on X (twitter), I do respect that other people have different opinions and if this league is to move ahead and flourish, it will be essential to show that respect. People are trying to make this polarizing and it's just not the case. She put out this video to make amends by basically saying she has much to learn and is willing to make an effort toward change. What more can you ask? I have seen people question her sincerity...Who can actually say what is in her heart and mind? I sure don't know. So for now I will take her at her words and hope they are true. Also I said she is a "great" hockey player, not a good hockey player. The message matters and even you agree with that.

    • @richardlaub889
      @richardlaub889 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      That's just a jumble of words you just typed. This league was created to give "Women" a place to play the game of hockey professionally. It is not a sanctuary for the LBGTQ+ community. I want to see the very best players in the world play the game I love and be paid doing it. All the rest of this is crap. Not everyone will have the same opinions in life and thought I have a problem with Curl's liked posts, she has said she will try to be better...What more can you ask? Or is the whole point of this to beat up on new player you and others "Hate" because she liked a few posts while in college? That is a place we learn about others and get an education. A place we make mistakes and then correct them or we change and become better. You and the others who are posting this "Reverse" hate want to pick on someone? I'm here all day. Give the woman a chance, isn't that what the LBGTG+ community wants for itself? I guess what I have learned is the the Hate flows in both directions on this topic.
