Too right about the 21's gun being hard to lead. I don't know why it's so tough, it's otherwise an excellent gun. Maybe it's the sight and forward vis or something
@@krylatich yeah I know it has low velocity, But like I said get close and use high yo yo to stay behind you opponent and get a low angle shot. The 21 has the best engine power and can afford to go vertical.
I think (been a while since I played DCS) that the gun is actually boresighted to the upper of the two Xs on the fixed grid sight, in other words if you use the main pipper as your reference point you won't pull enough lead. Easy to check by strafing a static ground target. The gyro sight functionality has been broken for years, what I used to do was put the sight in manual ground attack mode and adjust the angle knob to the position labelled ГШ-23 (GSh-23 in English). That puts the pipper in the right spot for the cannon. You can also just aim with the fixed grid sight, but I found it a lot less intuitive and it has a sort of 'haze' effect that reduces your view through the sight glass when you turn the brightness up.
good tip for the mig 21, most times Ill pull past where I can see them if we are in a circle, and most times they flight through the burst. Small Bursts are nice but if you can get a solid 1 second burst off by overpulling and letting them fly through most times its a kill

You should try on Syria the R-13M and R-13M1 with the 21, after 2.9 they became really good. They have similar range to what the old 9P had, and they can pull more than it specially the R-13M1. If you lead them and choose a good aspect shot the R-60s arent really needed anymore. Now the 9P is short ranged like the 9J, but it turns better up to it's level so they are essentially the same missile now. The one that retains old 9P range with better maneuvering is the new 9P-3 but currently not implemented in the F-5 or F1, only for the latest A-4 version and Viggen in the form of the Rb 24J, it's got reduced smoke too.
The muzzle velocity for the GSh-23 is almost 1000 fps slower than the F-5's M-39 or the M-61 Vulcan, so Mag 3 did a decent job of simulating the amount of drop off it has. But also the 3500rpm rate of fire, which is amazing for such a small autocannon.
I like the Caucasus more than Syria too. However not a fan of Caucasus when blue is down to their last base. It's pure AirQuake and that I get burned out on real quick. Great video as usual.
I do wish they’d reintroduce the top right portion of the map into play, and try to entice people to fight in the mountainous areas a little more. People tend to keep it coastal too much or fight very close to the airbases and it gets a bit manic. Especially annoying for fighters that have to come all the way from Gele once Red get to Sochi, map balance does feel a little bit off.
I’m hopeful they’ll bring it back, I think initially it was only removed due to performance issues when 2.9 released, which to my knowledge are largely resolved now. The event they’re planning was meant for Cauc too, at least I think, so fingers crossed.

Get close and try to go for a low aspect shot, you have the performance to go high yo-yo and stay behind the enemy combatant
It's round velocity. Funnily enough if your opponent is aware of you and knows bfm it is virtually impossible to land shots.
