Exactly. It was Nathan Ingram's idea to put in the backdoor and save the irrelevant people. Finch realized Nathan was right only after his death. He underestimated the government's will to do anything to protect its secret
I love the look on John's face when Harold says, " I built it. " Every drama needs two opposing elements. Protagonist and antagonist. Harold's gang is the good and Samaritan the bad. When Harold declares, " The machine is everywhere, " he admits Big Brother's existence.
I love how the show ends with a voiceover by the Machine telling its successor what its learned. Best bit is when the Machine ends the series with the line "and maybe... this isn't the end at all."
I know!!! My favorites though were the ones about death. I STILL quote that everybody dies alone line!!! Its become one of my favorite quotes of all time along with "no doubt, endings are hard, but then again, nothing ever REALLY ends does it???"

I miss that show so much. It was the best show on television. I wonder sometimes, especially the way things are today, if the idea of the machine is becoming closer to the truth every day.
Well I think the US government has a sorting/filtering system in place but not to that scale. We won't see AI as powerful as the Machine anytime soon. Probably never in our life which is a shame when you love technology but also is good when you realise what it can do. The series shows it multiple times with the 41 failures of the previous source code.
What if it already there...in the form of Fb, insta, whatsapp..smart phone , webcam, microphone, gps..selfie camera. ..All detected our emotions, facial expressions, movements and all things.. After all " we are being watched.".😅
Never seen an episode, asked around and watched little snippets like this one. I purchased the box set and am waiting for the right time to settle in for a long winter. I know almost nothing about the show, and am really excited to discover what so many of you already know. Going to be a great winter 2021/2022!

Best point made in the series: For the sake of security and safety, people are willing to open up every aspect of their lives to surveillance and scrutiny. We're there NOW and have been for quite some time. What we throw away does not belong to us. Our emails, texts, digital photos, social media activity, search histories, contact lists, voicemails, credit card activities etc do NOT belong to us. Sure on our computers they are private, but any content that "travels" through our ISP servers is fair game to at minimum the ISP. IF we back up our digital content to cloud servers, again...this stuff isn't really ours in a proprietary sense anymore.
Except what differentiates Harold from the vast majority of his real world counterparts is that Harold’s code of ethics and concern for the collateral consequences. Harold’s obsession with the machine learning to care and not dominate by thinking we are irrelevant.
The Samaritan, as the Main Plotline, got boring pretty fast. And in later seasons, they stopped focusing on Reese and Finch and started focusing on female characters. This is why they lost many viewers. I prefer any of the first 3 seasons to season 4 and 5, to be honest
I agree, season 4 and 5 had many individually great moments, but it fell short when it came to both major and minor plot arcs. The series finale however was absolutely amazing, and i don't think the show should have continued on after that, but a spin off could be cool. Maybe with a guest starring from our favorite canine and Shaw?
@@ProBreaker i don't find Sameen Shaw's acting to be as good as Jim Caviezel or Michael Emerson. I don't think she can lead a show as good as this. And in the end, i think they should not have killed X. It would have made it more meaningful if he survived the obvious. For a show like Poi, that was a horribly mediocre ending
I didn't mean for Shaw to lead the show, but to simply guest star once or twice. As for the finale, i don't see why you would call it mediocre. He was living on borrowed time from the beginning, not having any other purpose than helping Finch so having him survive would leave him with nothing. His life had come full circle. He was saved by Finch and the machine, and he gave his life for it, something i find very appropriate given his character.

In other words; i don't believe anyone is living on borrowed time. The Machine says that in the end so people would not be angry about his dead. Either everyone is living on borrowed time, or nobody is. And seeing as Reese did not have a sickness, was a good man and a helpful person; the ending, as i said above, is very mediocre for a show like this
I found the show on HBOMax, all five seasons. It took me two weeks to binge-watch it all. That was damned good television. (Hollywood gun-handling, but what do you expect?) The ideas were fascinating, the characters terrific, the writing outstanding. Worth the 100 hours.

But say the least, The Machine has proven well to play a "game" with ADMIN. If you watched the first episode of the second season of the flashbacks, Finch was testing the machine in the form of "games" (Hide and Seek, Blackjack, etc). I believe it is playing a game with Finch. Chess. But not the normal chess that is usually played (e.g., Elias when he had Finch and Beecher visited him on that episode).
also btw, jonathan nolan, the guy who created this series and invented all these great characters and story lines... is also the cocreator of westworld. with his wife lisa joy. as far as i am concerned. a very nice story. invent POI great show about AI... go on and do another with HBO... and it's even better. just... wow.

Pick five categories ~ gang related, organized crime (mafia/corporate), serial killer, personal/family, other ~ 1 through 5 for perp, 6 through 0 for victim.

What does the government do with everyone’s personal information, do they do something similarly to this were they delete the data they don’t need and only keep what’s important or do they just keep it all which I find hard to believe since it would cost many more servers to just keep it all

the machine is about to b quite devious in the upcoming season, my bet is that we're gonna see ppl being played against other ppl and off and on inhumane acts resultin directly off the machines influence on root, eventually if the show isnt cancelled there can only b 2 outcomes ,1 the machine is around or 2 its shut down ,it wud most likely b 2 since a entity with a mind of its own and all powerful will effect ways to ensure its survival at whatever cost

i think after the episode with carter dying, the machine is going to gradually be shown as a more malevolent entity. because it should have more than known that simmons was comin for them from far away with all its predictive probabilities not to mention it wud have known where he was stayin and what he was plannin and d area of intersection between john, carter and simmons. it either slipping or it didnt bother to save them, if its regardin finch keepin root or wht who knows. but i feel the series finale might b finch and reese shuttin down the machine
but the machine can't give numbers if finch is not near a pay phone since finch was always in a car. and the machine can't talk to finch unless its through a payphone
