Hi Tiffany I Live in the UK I've travelled a lot and japan is my favorite I went to mount fuji and we was lucky enough to go when there was snow on the top i thought there was snow all year round but the courier said you are so lucky tomorrow the snow Will have melted i went last may .

Questions to next Q&A: How did you find online job? how many hours per day do you work,do you have regular working hours or are you freelancer? don't you have any problems with internet connection in Greece? Is not problematic for your boss that you do not come to the office etc.
Thanks. It might be awhile for another one of those. I am not a freelancer and my job was set up to be remote so my boss has no issues. I have fiber in my neighborhood so I got the best package for pretty decent internet. I also have an Ethernet cord if I need something super stable.
I am Athenian but Thessaloniki is a very viable option for residence in my eyes. Quite cheaper than Athens,waaaay more relaxed vibe (Thessaloniki residents are known for it) and more friendly people due to the city being smaller. Although i think the same "Athenians hang out with Athenians" rule will be in force there too (meaning it will be difficult to join a group of locals especially without speaking fluent greek)...The metro line will boost the city. Drawbacks,i think less international flights from its airport,less proximity to the islands (there are some islands on the the north plus the famous halkidiki) and i guess for you it would be difficult to start a new circle of friends from scratch. Indeed Athens has more international residents,so that's big for you. All i am saying is it seems it is under your radar but you will be very surprised if you visit. It's known for its food as well. Oh, and they hate Athenians and Athens for real. Like, for real. so don't say you like Athens 😂 One of the jokes they say about us is that you can spot an Athenian in Thessaloniki because he walks fast like he just robbed a bank.
Nice video. You definitely went to a place most tourists do not - Kalymnos. And, even then, you went to Palionissos to get that meal. Most tourists stay in and around Pothia - while the climbers stay on the northern end (Masouri, Arginonta, etc). This is where my paternal grandparents came from, and it is a wonderful place. I have been coming the last 5 out of 6 years (Covid prevented a 2020 visit). I always love coming and hate leaving.
@@agirlandherpassport Another great place is Vathy. Nice place and not heavily touristed. There ARE tourists (even a small hotel there), but it's farily nice. I always stop there each time I come. Vathy is the one really fertile place on the island, and you can see lots of lemons, apples, oranges, figs, etc when walking along the side roads. I last went in September and tried to find some old gravestones (looking for long deceased relatives). Had to park on the road and walk to where the old chuch is located. Really stunning - though no cemetery was found.
It might be helpful if you divide the video into different sections where you address a question in each section, and you can name the section with the question you answer so people know. I've been to Japan twice before. You might try the capsule hotel since the main cost comes from hotel rooms and traffic if you are going to Tokyo. I recommend going to Hokkaido if you would like to explore the rural area. 🍻Glad to know you will be in Greece for the long term.
Capsule hotels are definitely a must do in Japan I think even if not for the whole time. They look so cool. I want to see the whole country so we will see what all I can do.

Hi Tiffany, Well we made it! Our dream trip - we arrived in Paros through Athens on September 2. We will be here until Sept 18 and then head to Crete on SeaJet ferry. This morning I had an alarming thought - is there baggage restrictions on the ferry. The two of us came with one large checked bag and one smaller carryon, per airline standards but is that too much for the ferry? Will we be able to carry on all our bags, even if we have to pay an additional fee? I have contacted SeaJet but then remembered how quickly you answered my previous email and thought I would reach out to you. Thanks for your reply.

I prefer staying in Chora especially if you are going to live there year round. There is just lots going on there in the winter compared to the rest of the island. Hope that helps!

(I'm not fluent, but I don't have to speak English in Greece, as long as they speak to me like I'm a (smart) Greek child. A thing I loved about learning Greek in Greece is that whenever I felt down on myself for how terrible my Greek was, I'd ask someone (store clerk, waiter, whoever) if I was saying something right, and 1) they were super helpful and eager to be of help 2) told me how good my Greek was, even if they were being just a little nice about that. Don't give up on it!

No worries as I have talked about it before. I am on the Financially Independent Visa. However, the Greek embassy in the UK has different requirements for this visa than in the US so it is best to contact them for the best info. Hope that helps!

We are really enjoying your videos on Greece. We will be visiting for the month of September. On main destination is Paros. We do have a couple of questions for you which I'm sure will make our visit better. 1) Should we get Euros before coming to Greece or is it better to convert US currency once we are there? 2)Do you think we should have more Euros and less USD? 3)We want to make a side trip to Patmos but as the saying goes "you can't get there for here", we are learning that we will probably have to get back to Athens from Paros and then ferry to Patmos. Is there any easier way that you know of? Thanks for all your help and informative YouTubing.
You can just Euros from an ATM. You should get not accept the exchange rate and let the bank negotiate it for you. No need for US dollars here. Exchange places have the worst rates. Unfortunately, that is correct. Very few ferries run between different island chains. You could fly to Athens from Paros. Then fly to Kos or Leros and take a ferry from there. Hope that helps

I didn’t notice the the post you made about the QnA. So I'll leave my questions here. Do you follow the greek news and politics? (If you I don’t necessarily recommend you to do so) Have you noticed any of the the demonstrations (protests) that are happening in Athens especially the last few weeks? Why don’t you want to apply for a Greek citizenship? (besides the part that you have to know Greek and Greek history) Is there reason something with dual citizenship in the US? (the double taxation for example)
I do a bit but my Greek isn’t good enough to really understand and I don’t understand Greek politics. I am not in Athens right now so I have missed all the protests. It’s mainly the high taxes in Greece. And it takes a long time.
@@agirlandherpassport Yeah our “Scandinavian taxes” is problems for us Greeks as well (mainly because we don’t get any “Scandinavian benefits”) but in your in your case you would have to pay both US taxes and the Greek ones even if don’t live in the US or even if you’re income is not from the US. It’s absurd. Although the United States and Greece had 75 year tax treaty back 1950 and I don’t know if that applies for US citizens (not just corporations)
@@Nick_G. There is a tax treaty but it makes my head hurt to think about figuring it out. The resident permit process isn't hard so I am happy to keep doing that. Probably costs me less in the end.

Hey Tiffany, I have the same residence permit as you the FIP. Mine expired at end of July 2022 and I submitted my renewal near the end of August 2022. I'm using a lawyer and he told me that there is a very long 6 to 9 month backup for these permit renewals like ours. Frustrating to be sure. Especially since the temp paper is only for Greece and doesn't allow Schengen travel. 🤦🏻♀️ I was able to go to Albania for a few days in November 2022, then back into Greece where I did get another Schengen stamp so this gives me 90 days of Schengen travel. (I'm Canadian) I'm just wondering how are you managing Schengen travel now? I had wanted to go to Rome in October but my lawyer advised against it because if they dug into my passport for stamps I'd be an overstayer due to the Greek temp paper not being valid outside Greece. 🤷🏻
Mine as also not be renewed! Such a pain. I keep emailing with no response. They don't check passports for inter-Schengen travel usually even though you might use it for ID. You are allowed to be in the Schengen area for 90 days outside your time in Greece. Our permit doesn't allow it to be used for entering Schengen either. I highly doubt that Italy would be going through your passport since you don't go through passport control from Greece.
I actually just looked at the paper. It says nothing about travel on it. I feel like this is an urban myth! I have heard it but never seen it written down. So I would get it translated to English, officially, and go!
Hi. Loving your videos! I have been trying to find the answer to this also. We are relocating to Athens in a few months time and I have been “reliably” told by a lawyer that the temporary cert/the paper you get saying your application is pending, is valid for travel and the greek passport control will allow you back in on it. Inter Schengen travel shouldn’t be looking at the passport. I hope this is correct as we will be applying for residence permits through family member of eu citizen and I’ve been told there could be a 6-9 month wait…
Greeks love French fries and put it in everything. Quite a difference from other Mediterranean countries. You wouldn’t be served fresh fish with fries in France, for example.

I have no plans to move. Just want to visit. I like Athens and have friends plus being close to more islands for me is important.

I was on a sailboat so it was a bit easier to get to. We did go to the main port town later in the trip.

I prefer staying in Chora especially if you are going to live there year round. There is just lots going on there in the winter compared to the rest of the island. Hope that helps!

Hi! Thanks for subscribing. I am improving but not great. I did take lessons for a bit but I didn't jive with the instructor. I am hoping to get back to lessons in the Spring and have been using an app to learn more in the meantime. I get by for basics and most people speak English.

(I'm not fluent, but I don't have to speak English in Greece, as long as they speak to me like I'm a (smart) Greek child. A thing I loved about learning Greek in Greece is that whenever I felt down on myself for how terrible my Greek was, I'd ask someone (store clerk, waiter, whoever) if I was saying something right, and 1) they were super helpful and eager to be of help 2) told me how good my Greek was, even if they were being just a little nice about that. Don't give up on it!

No worries as I have talked about it before. I am on the Financially Independent Visa. However, the Greek embassy in the UK has different requirements for this visa than in the US so it is best to contact them for the best info. Hope that helps!

Thank you! I’m not sure as I haven’t been to Crete and I haven’t looked into the cost of living there. All of Crete isn’t touristy so it probably isn’t all the same.
We are really enjoying your videos on Greece. We will be visiting for the month of September. On main destination is Paros. We do have a couple of questions for you which I'm sure will make our visit better. 1) Should we get Euros before coming to Greece or is it better to convert US currency once we are there? 2)Do you think we should have more Euros and less USD? 3)We want to make a side trip to Patmos but as the saying goes "you can't get there for here", we are learning that we will probably have to get back to Athens from Paros and then ferry to Patmos. Is there any easier way that you know of? Thanks for all your help and informative YouTubing.
You can just Euros from an ATM. You should get not accept the exchange rate and let the bank negotiate it for you. No need for US dollars here. Exchange places have the worst rates. Unfortunately, that is correct. Very few ferries run between different island chains. You could fly to Athens from Paros. Then fly to Kos or Leros and take a ferry from there. Hope that helps

Have you noticed any of the the demonstrations (protests) that are happening in Athens especially the last few weeks?
Why don’t you want to apply for a Greek citizenship? (besides the part that you have to know Greek and Greek history) Is there reason something with dual citizenship in the US? (the double taxation for example)
I do a bit but my Greek isn’t good enough to really understand and I don’t understand Greek politics. I am not in Athens right now so I have missed all the protests. It’s mainly the high taxes in Greece. And it takes a long time.
@@agirlandherpassport Yeah our “Scandinavian taxes” is problems for us Greeks as well (mainly because we don’t get any “Scandinavian benefits”) but in your in your case you would have to pay both US taxes and the Greek ones even if don’t live in the US or even if you’re income is not from the US. It’s absurd. Although the United States and Greece had 75 year tax treaty back 1950 and I don’t know if that applies for US citizens (not just corporations)
@@Nick_G. There is a tax treaty but it makes my head hurt to think about figuring it out. The resident permit process isn't hard so I am happy to keep doing that. Probably costs me less in the end.

Hey Tiffany, I have the same residence permit as you the FIP. Mine expired at end of July 2022 and I submitted my renewal near the end of August 2022. I'm using a lawyer and he told me that there is a very long 6 to 9 month backup for these permit renewals like ours. Frustrating to be sure.
Especially since the temp paper is only for Greece and doesn't allow Schengen travel. 🤦🏻♀️ I was able to go to Albania for a few days in November 2022, then back into Greece where I did get another Schengen stamp so this gives me 90 days of Schengen travel. (I'm Canadian)
I'm just wondering how are you managing Schengen travel now? I had wanted to go to Rome in October but my lawyer advised against it because if they dug into my passport for stamps I'd be an overstayer due to the Greek temp paper not being valid outside Greece. 🤷🏻

They don't check passports for inter-Schengen travel usually even though you might use it for ID. You are allowed to be in the Schengen area for 90 days outside your time in Greece. Our permit doesn't allow it to be used for entering Schengen either. I highly doubt that Italy would be going through your passport since you don't go through passport control from Greece.
I actually just looked at the paper. It says nothing about travel on it. I feel like this is an urban myth! I have heard it but never seen it written down. So I would get it translated to English, officially, and go!

I have been trying to find the answer to this also. We are relocating to Athens in a few months time and I have been “reliably” told by a lawyer that the temporary cert/the paper you get saying your application is pending, is valid for travel and the greek passport control will allow you back in on it. Inter Schengen travel shouldn’t be looking at the passport. I hope this is correct as we will be applying for residence permits through family member of eu citizen and I’ve been told there could be a 6-9 month wait…

Quite a difference from other Mediterranean countries. You wouldn’t be served fresh fish with fries in France, for example.
The real difference in Thessaloniki is not the look of the city, it is the food, trust me on that.
