- I recently got an iMac G5 with OS X 10.4 Obviously, I want to load Classic so I can enjoy 68000 based games on the thing. However, I have no installer disks so what to do?!
In this video I'll walk through a simple installation of Mac OS 9, on Mac OS X 10.4
Basically, I took an eMac 9.2 installer disk, converted it to read/write, allowed the Classic app to update the system folder, shut it down, and converted that image to a read only image. Now with this image, just mount it, and point classic to it, and you can now boot OS 9, and run the installer, so your OS X 10.4 Mac can now run old applications!

So for my new iMac G3 (DV SE) could I download an ISO image of Mac OS X (which it’s currently running), put it on a flash drive, and then plug it in to the iMac and install/erase previous owner? And the out and ISO image of Mac OS 9 on the flash drive, and install that… and then use OS X when I want, and switch to classic when I want, and run older OS 9 games that way?
No one tells how to do it, they just mention one little part and assume you know the rest. So here I am asking everyone I can find. 😅
Why is it VERY slow
Could you boot into MacOS 9 right away while having X installed?
No, it isn't supported on this machine. I've done this on later G4's and G5's
