    I have one of these 2021 SG’s. They are just awesome.

    I liked the sound of the 2011 better which, despite the maple neck, sounded a bit smoother and warmer with a more tamed upper treble bite and a slightly fuller lower/mid bump. I also own a 2011 standard, left handed cherry, though mine has a rosewood fretboard, and I'll never part with it.

      I have a 2011 SG with a rosewood fretboard as well, but the color is not as dark as the one in the video, but darker than the newer one 🤘

      The 2011 SG Standard Limited here is in Aged Cherry. Heritage Cherry changes from year to year and even from Model to Model (Standard and Standard '61). Cheers -Ryan

    I didn't hear any difference, but tunes you play are pretty badass

    I own 3 American SG Standards. 08, 12, and 16. They all sound different. The 16 is the warmest. Has the thickest neck of the 3. However, I will say this about the SG’s you have to play a lot of them to find the one you like.

      I also found 3 I like. My first is an 01 gothic Ive owned since 2004, and I have a 2005 standard and a 1989 3 knob special. I can’t pick a favorite. I love all 3

    I had a 2010-11, not sure which, and now I have a 2022 SG standard. I felt the 2011 was of less quality than the new one. For one, the inlay on my 2010 started popping out. The finish was not as good. The Grover tuners are far superior. I did not like the way the 2010-11played at all no matter how much I worked on the setup. I very much like the 2022 it looks great, feels great and sounds fantastic,. Ok, enough.

    This actually helped a lot. Personally I like the sound of the 2011 with the 498T (which is the one I'm going to purchase). I didn't hear the "pluckiness," I head more of a bite with the treble which almost has that buffer boost to it... Idk that's just me... Thank YOU though for comparing

    13:15 I much prefer the horns on the 2021 which are more what the sg was. It's pretty much how 61 to 68 sg were. From 1969 till new model 2019 they were much thicker for some reason (cheaper manufacture ?) .

    such a sick demo and exactly what I was looking for. there’s not enough SG reviews with modern metal out there !
    for drop tuning these, what strings do you use and do you encounter any tuning stability issues?

    • @Crypticmaskguitar
      @Crypticmaskguitar  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      10-46 for strings. I tune 3 times before I play, each time I tune UP to pitch only. Then I tug on my strings to pull them flat… then tune UP again. After I do that 3 times they stay in tune perfectly! Cheers -Ryan

      I’ve had my SG in drop A for some years now. The Gibson scale length is perfectly fine for drop tunings. Look up a string tension calculator online and try out some gauges for the tuning you’re looking for making sure to get as close to possible as the string tension of the guitar in standard with the stock 10-46 gauge set.

    Does the 2011 have a slim taper neck like the 2021 ? thanks

    • @Crypticmaskguitar
      @Crypticmaskguitar  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The 2021 has a rounded profile. Some 2011s have the rounded, some have the medium c profile. The 2021 Standard 61 has the slim taper, but the regular is the thicker rounded profile. Cheers -Ryan

    There's a touch more high end on the 21. The 11 sounds just a bit warmer.
