I saw a guy turn a chunk of wood to make a bowl.
It had figure and rotten parts. I thought to myself, Matt would love this.
I know nothing about wood . I started watching you a few months ago.
I got hooked. I love watching you build your sun room. I'm a old lady ,you give me some entanglement and some giggles Thank you and GodBless you and your beautiful family

That exquisite feather grain had me drooling and sighing all the way through the cutting and the revealing. How wonderful you had the privilege of cutting up parts of that wonderful old historical cherry tree. To me, crotch wood is way more valuable than boring straight grain lumber or slabs.

When I was a kid we had a maple tree in our front yard that split at a crotch and split almost all the way to the ground during a storm but it didn't fall over. My dad borrowed a really long drill bit from his work and drilled through it, put a long piece of threaded rod through it with some big washers then drew up a nut on each side and pulled the tree back together. It healed back up and continued growing, eventually covering over all evidence of the hardware. Last time I went by there the tree had been cut down and I often wonder what the tree people thought if they hit it with a saw, or ran it through a chipper or sawmill.

On the farm we grew up on we had a similar maple. My dad used cable to cinch it together which, of course, grew into the tree. But the tree lasted for years after that.

Thanks, Matt! All I can hope is that the Cherry crotch grain does NOT wind up as 2x4's or 2x6's in the new addition. (Kidding, I know you would not commit that sacrilege!)
I've done a few projects using MUCH smaller pieces of Cherry, one a chessboard that I gave to a friend (with Walnut as the alternate squares) 30-odd years ago. More recently, I made end-grain cutting boards for my grown children using Cherry as one of (if I recall correctly) 6 species of wood in a random glue up of 2-inch by roughly 2-inch "cubes", planed down to about 1 1/2" thick after the glue dried for a couple of days.

I'm enjoying the home renovation, but it's nice to see some sawmill work too. At 13:30 - did you know that your metal cable starts rubbing as the angle changes? You can see it deflecting off the bottom of the square tube by 13:38. It's probably making it harder to crank as you get near the end of the track, and slowly chewing up the cable.

Matt, I think you need to start naming you water splash positions and a 1-5 rating for water coverage and sound effect. At 20:00 I witnessed the overhead, right hand with a 1/2 twist and a healthy "HA", plus...full target splash acquisition. But the best was the 20:23 the bucket catch and a confident "OH!", certainly a full splash with a short well timed scream. I give it 4 thumbs-up for creativity!! 👍👍👍👍 How about a video of only water splashes and sound effects?
