if you ever had a miscarriage you would understand why she hid it. I wish I could do this to my family. it really hurt me to see them so hurt after we loss our 3 children It is so much easier to just surprise everyone with the baby and know everything is ok.

I miscarried at 19 weeks and my aunt asked what i did wrong, when I told her I did nothing, her exact words were, “Look all I am saying is if you miscarry in the second trimester its usually something the mother did, thats all I am saying” When I tried to explain how I felt to my grandmother she said “oh, you know she didnt mean it like that”. I don’t blame or have any anger towards my grandmother, she is the sort of person who will always think the best of a person. Even when I have done some not so nice things in the past she always gave me the benefit of the doubt. My aunt on the other hand is a different story. My miscarriage was in February 2017, I fell pregnant in August 2017. Saw them at Christmas when I was about 6 months pregnant, was able to hide it as I wasn’t showing much, had my daughter on 2 May 2018 and showed up at Christmas with a 7 month old. I regret NOTHING.
Your Aunt is a piece of work. Sadly pure ignorance and lack of empathy run in older generations. I would have done the same thing you did. She probably wouldn't even be invited to any of my function. I get why some people would be upset. Buuuuut I also understand why the parents would want to wait especially if they suffered a miscarriage or a stillborn.
So exactly when would you tell your loving mother that you had a miscarriage or a stillborn? Months later? Years later? Never? Would you just suffer alone? This does not make sense at all in the light of what I know about LOVE.
There’s no such thing as “a stillborn”. And what if their loved ones only found out after a stillbirth that the baby had ever existed. How do you think they would feel?
On one hand I think this idea is neat and fun. On the other hand, as a mother, I think I would be so hurt if one of my kids had a baby and did not tell me. To not tell me these details of their lives for 9 months, would just gut me. I know I would get over it and love that baby so much, but that first initial reaction I fear would not be a good one. I guess I am torn. But still fun to see on TH-cam because it is not my kid, lol
I loved, loved, loved this video SO much, but if I had kept my pregnancy a secret from family and they didn’t have the chance to go through the excitement and anticipation of those nine months, I don’t think they would have ever spoken to me again! We have lost 4 babies to miscarriage. And don’t announce pregnancy due to that. (Too many rude comments) We only had one family member angry and offended over it this time. I loved this video. So glad you could pull it off.
My husband and I have had 5 miscarriages, but I always told our families each time I was pregnant because it’s my belief that no matter if it ended in a loss, a pregnancy is a gift and my baby wasn’t any less alive before the miscarriage and deserved to be celebrated just as any pregnancy should be celebrated. After the first 2 misses I started to expect the worst each time, so I wanted to celebrate and to be happy for every second I was pregnant regardless of how it was going to end.if I didn’t tell anyone, I wouldn’t have had anyone to mourn with. I wouldn’t have had anyone to talk to about the loss and the pain. I totally understand why this wouldn’t be the route everyone would choose, but I chose to celebrate every second. Now I am 41 and have finally come to terms with the fact that my daughter (now almost 22 years old) is going to be my only baby. I was so lucky to be able to carry her and deliver her; she’s my miracle. Now my daughter has a little boy and it has been the most incredible time in my life! It’s the first time in 20 years that I can see diaper commercials and pregnant women without bursting into tears. I am very sorry for your losses. I hope if you haven’t found peace yet, that some day, it will find you. Be well❤️

She probably just didnt realise they went through the whole pregnancy thing. When you suddenly appear with a baby, without telling anyone about pregnancy she probably was very confused about how the baby appeared in their lives xD so i guess she didnt mean nothing wrong, she was just bamboozled at that moment xD
I get how it sounded like that, but you can definitely tell that the first part of the conversation was cut and also all the commotion/confusion going on. When someone shows up with a baby saying its theirs and they hid the pregnancy, you're going to automatically assume they adopted and didn't tell anyone incase things didn't go accordingly. So she had obviously just said something (that was cut, or couldn't hear over everyone being so excited) along the lines of where did this baby come from, how did this all happen. And all Hannah meant when she said she's ours, is that she physically had her that she was made from both parents. And the other lady when she said I thought you adopted, didn't mean it as she's not theirs, she meant as she thought there was no possible way Hannah was pregnant and had a baby without anyone knowing. It was no way meant to be insensitive, or hurtful, or offensive. As Ben said they have adoptive family, so that right there also shows why maybe she thought they adopted seeing as that's not an uncommon thing for their family.
If I couldn't see my daughter for 10 months and would get such a gift when meeting again I think my joy would pass any disapointment, but I might be wrong.
I have 3 sisters, I’m the youngest brother and it was wonderful to experience their pregnancies and being there to help and support them, it was bonding but honestly I remember the worrying, fear and confusion on my sisters faces when family and friends gave them unsolicited advice, tips, warnings etc.... it was overwhelming sometimes that they didn’t really enjoy their pregnancy as they should’ve, not saying that this is the same case but I kept thinking of how wonderful these couple enjoy their pregnancy on their own and in their terms, ultimately it’s about them and how they chose their experience, not about The FOMO of the family members. My best wishes to the parents and your baby, may you all have a long and healthy life together.

I also have three sisters, but only the eldest has kids. Her first two were twins and I recall a smidge of worry about both being able to be born safely, with a certain procedure brought up at one point by a doctor. But both babies came to be and are doing great. Needless to saw I would die for those kids

Part of what was missed out on is the “anticipating.” Knowing that a baby is coming and getting ready to finally meet them can be so satisfying! For all involved. When you’ve been gone for over a year and you come home, your family has been anticipating your arrival, no? And they were delighted to see you. But then a second later you place a baby in their arms that they had no idea existed and that is very jarring. Of course they’re going to love her but they didn’t know she existed until about 2 seconds before. That’s a little overwhelming.

Love this. Ignore the nay sayers. There are still members of my family that have no idea i have a child, who is now 2....im a private person and dont share much about me with anyone, even family. It's not rude or unfair or anything other than it is what it is. The fact you have introduced them is beautiful. I think this is a great idea, regardless of why they did it. Pregnancy is between the mother and the father, telling everyone about the pregnancy is a choice, especially if you’re not interacting with them in person on the regular. If the mother is having issues with carrying the baby, it makes perfect sense to keep it a secret for that reason as well. I also noticed that it looked like she did not give birth naturally and the baby was on oxygen so clearly something was going on. Regardless, I think waiting and surprising everyone is awesome, regardless of reasons for doing so. Who doesn’t get excited about a new baby in the family.

As a mother of sons, I almost cried when your mother came in and discovered what you had taken from her. I could see it on her face. My oldest announced his engagement on FB. I was a little hurt certainly. I made it clear in a loving way that's not how I want to find out I will be a grandma. I'm not a smother in law at all, but certain people should not be part of a joke on everyone. Best of luck. Babies are such a blessing.
+Judith They'd taken the opportunity away from her. Normally moms like to have, what we call in Dutch "voorpret." It means pre-fun. it's the enjoyment of preparing yourself for a great event that's going to happen later. The mom probably would've wanted to think about the baby, about the name, about the clothing. (Not that she could decide...but thinking about it in your head, can be loads of fun.) Perhaps embroider something for it. Find a toy. Dream about how it'll be. Now it's just a sudden mega-surprise, with no way to prepare yourself mentally whatsoever.

My husband and I have had 5 miscarriages, but I always told our families each time I was pregnant because it’s my belief that no matter if it ended in a loss, a pregnancy is a gift and my baby wasn’t any less alive before the miscarriage and deserved to be celebrated just as any pregnancy should be celebrated. After the first 2 misses I started to expect the worst each time, so I wanted to celebrate and to be happy for every second I was pregnant regardless of how it was going to end.if I didn’t tell anyone, I wouldn’t have had anyone to mourn with. I wouldn’t have had anyone to talk to about the loss and the pain. I totally understand why this wouldn’t be the route everyone would choose, but I chose to celebrate every second. Now I am 41 and have finally come to terms with the fact that my daughter (now almost 22 years old) is going to be my only baby. I was so lucky to be able to carry her and deliver her; she’s my miracle. Now my daughter has a little boy and it has been the most incredible time in my life! It’s the first time in 20 years that I can see diaper commercials and pregnant women without bursting into tears. I am very sorry for your losses. I hope if you haven’t found peace yet, that some day, it will find you. Be well❤️

She probably just didnt realise they went through the whole pregnancy thing. When you suddenly appear with a baby, without telling anyone about pregnancy she probably was very confused about how the baby appeared in their lives xD so i guess she didnt mean nothing wrong, she was just bamboozled at that moment xD
I get how it sounded like that, but you can definitely tell that the first part of the conversation was cut and also all the commotion/confusion going on. When someone shows up with a baby saying its theirs and they hid the pregnancy, you're going to automatically assume they adopted and didn't tell anyone incase things didn't go accordingly. So she had obviously just said something (that was cut, or couldn't hear over everyone being so excited) along the lines of where did this baby come from, how did this all happen. And all Hannah meant when she said she's ours, is that she physically had her that she was made from both parents. And the other lady when she said I thought you adopted, didn't mean it as she's not theirs, she meant as she thought there was no possible way Hannah was pregnant and had a baby without anyone knowing. It was no way meant to be insensitive, or hurtful, or offensive. As Ben said they have adoptive family, so that right there also shows why maybe she thought they adopted seeing as that's not an uncommon thing for their family.

I have 3 sisters, I’m the youngest brother and it was wonderful to experience their pregnancies and being there to help and support them, it was bonding but honestly I remember the worrying, fear and confusion on my sisters faces when family and friends gave them unsolicited advice, tips, warnings etc.... it was overwhelming sometimes that they didn’t really enjoy their pregnancy as they should’ve, not saying that this is the same case but I kept thinking of how wonderful these couple enjoy their pregnancy on their own and in their terms, ultimately it’s about them and how they chose their experience,
not about The FOMO of the family members.

Her first two were twins and I recall a smidge of worry about both being able to be born safely, with a certain procedure brought up at one point by a doctor.

Part of what was missed out on is the “anticipating.” Knowing that a baby is coming and getting ready to finally meet them can be so satisfying! For all involved. When you’ve been gone for over a year and you come home, your family has been anticipating your arrival, no? And they were delighted to see you.
But then a second later you place a baby in their arms that they had no idea existed and that is very jarring. Of course they’re going to love her but they didn’t know she existed until about 2 seconds before. That’s a little overwhelming.

I think this is a great idea, regardless of why they did it. Pregnancy is between the mother and the father, telling everyone about the pregnancy is a choice, especially if you’re not interacting with them in person on the regular.
If the mother is having issues with carrying the baby, it makes perfect sense to keep it a secret for that reason as well. I also noticed that it looked like she did not give birth naturally and the baby was on oxygen so clearly something was going on. Regardless, I think waiting and surprising everyone is awesome, regardless of reasons for doing so. Who doesn’t get excited about a new baby in the family.

As a mother of sons, I almost cried when your mother came in and discovered what you had taken from her. I could see it on her face. My oldest announced his engagement on FB. I was a little hurt certainly. I made it clear in a loving way that's not how I want to find out I will be a grandma. The mom probably would've wanted to think about the baby, about the name, about the clothing. (Not that she could decide...but thinking about it in your head, can be loads of fun.)
Perhaps embroider something for it. Find a toy. Dream about how it'll be.
