- Plus Sized Kite Reviews are back with the latest saucy aluula banger on the market, the Ozone Vortex. As always I was riding the 9m size over multiple sessions, in around 22-30 knots, although unfortunately mostly on the lower end of that range so I will be doing some follow-up sessions to test the very top-end performance and reporting back about it on my Instagram, @jasonofmontreal

These reviews are the best. Love that you ask yousselve questions. Hope part two comes out soon, maybe buying a vortex, but you rarely see them. Big fan of the edge speed now..
I won’t be doing a part two, i managed to ride this kite happily up to around 30-35 knots and still enjoyed it. Top to end loses some of its ease of use, compared to say an orbit/nitro, but it’s still a great ride and the second best overall aluula kite I’ve ridden so far

Thx again Jason. Coming off XR7s, I got to try 9m Vortex yesterday and also loved it. I’m not ready for loops but was amazed how playful, smooth and easy to ride it was. I found myself using to kite to correct errors because I could just put it where I needed it to be. Agree it did feel super floaty, but it made up in agility and fun factor- I have never thrown a kite around quite as much. It right up there at the top of my list with XR Pro- looking forward to your review so I can make my call.
Unless you have any sneak peak feedback on XR Pro? I know it will boost, but trying to determine how agile it might be, given how much I enjoyed the Vortex.
I’m afraid we don’t have core here in NZ but I’d imagine the xr pro is less forgiving and more boosting oriented

I decided to hold off doing that as there are a lot of things I both like and dislike about each device/app, in summary I tend to prefer the app/community of using woo, but prefer the accuracy of surfr. Both are great for different things really.

Loving the reviews! Keep them coming. I just purchased a new Nitro2 in a 9m. Watching the big air comps and your reviews had me question what I was really looking for. I’m a lighter rider and hardly ever have a chance to ride in 30-35 knots. Seems like some of the kites the pros are using in those conditions may offer a rider like me less performance rather than more. I just want to boost as high as possible and loop it when I can. I got my first 2 sessions on the Nitro 2, and I think I made the right decision! Easy to fly, super stable, and jumps way better than my old kite. It was still expensive but seems to be the only kite able hanging with the Aluula kites which cost nearly 800 quid more. I may pick up a 12 meter if I can find one. Thanks Jason!

@@jasonofmontreal yes…. And also interesting as price: 650€ for the 9mt in dacron and probably will be 900/950€ for the UPE aramid… I think everybody can agree that is a reasonable and honest price, especially if you buy 3/5 kites every 2 years or even just one.

I don't really know the answer there, my wife has been progressing from beginner and loves her North Reach, that would be my pick, but I'm sure there are a lot of options here.
Thanks to your reviews of kites, I bought a range of orbit kites and I am (super) happy with them for loop progression. :))
Sadly my 9m 2024 does have a problem in the air (strange feeling, no feedback, no lift/power), I hope north will take it back and give me a new one.

I actually bought a North Orbit 2023 10 m² because of your reviews. After some sessions to adjust to the kite I´m really happy now (apart from collapsing wing tips with high load, that´s really annoying)
Have your tried pumping it up a bit more 10/11pai, and connecting at the wing tips a bit closer to middle

I got a 10m Evo Dlab a couple of months ago. Your vote as the best choice kite in the 10m size helped as the deciding factor. Toying with a 12m now too after seeing how well you are doing with that in the lighter winds.

Nice review, Jason! I’ve been wanting them to come out with an Aluula Edge. It would take on the other 5-strut big air kites.
Perhaps, I'm not sure if you need the extra struts with Aluula because from the kites I've tried, the best Aluula kites are all 3 strut.

I used to ride the v11 edges and the vortex definitely has the edge feel to it ,I've been demoing the 9m vortex. The hangtime is good like the edge ,it's just super quick through the sky ,a totally amazing kite in my opinion from a few sessions on one . I'd 2nd what Jason said don't need 5 struts with alula airframe and 16 point bridals

@@dlmob I doubt the hyper comes close to the Evo for top end performance, but it might be more user friendly and potentially a better build quality… Will try to find out
First of all I want to say that your revievs are the best on yt for advanced riders👌 … secondly I need to say that I have dlabs from the beginning same as had sls evos from the beginning (having opportunity to watch how they were tested by Aaron and Ralph a year before going to sale) …. I learn my first higher loops on FX then switch to XR and going through Orbits landed with Duotone finally… My final point is that Dlab are the best alula pro kites on the market but in my opinion the best progression you will get as advanced rider is on sls version since they are less aggressive and more forgiveness and in my opinion sls give you more confidence to catch after the loop than dlab… (smoother loop / not much yank / so lines have tension most of the time)
Dlab is hyper machine to do what you already can do but not as good for learning new tricks with loops and rotations as it can be done on SLS… please tell me what you think about it ?
I’ve never tried the Evo sls, I think there’s some validity to what you’re saying, as I mentioned in several videos, although the dlab is the best performance overall, it can be more challenging for loop progression depending on your level

The hyper & rs+ v2 should be soon, hopefully can get a hold of the slingshot when it comes out later this year. I already did the nitro v2 which is the big air kite of their range
Absolutely loving my nitro 2, really can’t fault its range of use and ease at jumping big in gusty winds. For me it’s all about boosting as big as possible with single loops. The harlems just don’t seem to boost very big, clear to see in the competitions recently. Not interested in paying extortionate rates for an aluula kite where the difference is hardly anything. The cost adds up fast when you have a few sizes.

Been hovering around era / nitro 10m for big air / loop progression, waiting for this review to decide….
10m vortex sounds like it’ll be perfect.
The Era might be the best bang for buck big air kite out there, but they’re all bangers, just at varying price points
Tried 9m era in CT, really liked it.
Rode 10m vortex in very light wind, which had more power than expected.
8m era, 10m vortex is looking like the option.
I may have missed the thought process in a previous video, but why did you decide to purchase a 10m DLab instead of a 9m? These are the best kite review videos I have seen since I started kiting ten years ago.
I went for an 8/10/12 quiver, but kept my 9m orbit for trick progression
nitro gets mentioned a lot between all these videos, sounds like a good option for the price/perf. Went for an Eleveight XS in 7m size due to huge discount it had, hope to see it soon on your reviews.

@@clementfouet2888 if you are used to 23/24 you will, I find my timing is better with 22. Some pros prefer longer lines for tricks, and slightly shorter for boosting, I tend to prefer 24 for larger kite sizes only.

I don't know if it's linked, but I think there is a difference of the position of the kite, I mean with longer line, the drag of the lines make the kite a bit less on the edge of the wind window, results by more pull
@@clementfouet2888 check out the kitesurf365 podcast, tech casts with DK, I think two or three pods ago they break down the differences, and talk about a session where Aaron Hadlow jumped 35m on 17m lines (with a 9m), while Luke McGwilie did the same height on 23m lines (on a 6m kites)

Do you mean size of vortex kite? I only tested the 9m, but I bet the 8 would be a lot of fun as well
@@jasonofmontreal yes, I mean the size. I use foilkite over 9m doing oldschool, so 9m is very fine for me switching for loop for low ratio miss boost, and I would love to lower the minimum to send boogie before waiting 25 knots.. maybe a 10m vortew could do the job in 22-23 knots ?... Thank you

You wanna use the navigator large for orbit 11mt+ so that one is an M
@@giorgio4660 In an ideal world perhaps, but I generally just stick to the same size bars for all my kites, I spend too much on gear as it is 😂

I been riding Orbits for the last 4 years after watching your video,s i pulled the trigger on a 10m2 evo Dlab and got my trust bar infected by infexion lines i stil got my 8 orbit thinking of changing it to the harlem force or the new core pace wich i believe is launched in june.
That dlab is very hard to beat in the 10m size, but those kites are all bangers depending on your riding style and conditions

The challenges of doing big kite sizes is getting the kites, it’s hard enough to get 9m kites in NZ 😂. I think the vortex would be pretty solid 11m, probably better low end than orbit/nitro but likely not as forgiving with the loops. The kite was getting more grunty/tricky in the high end as I mentioned in the review. I’d probably stick with my dlabs for 10/11 and up by recuse of the low end
I wonder why in NZ you guys don‘t have all brands, is it because kiteboarding is not that popular in NZ ? 🤔

In my understanding from review it shouldn’t be as punch‘y as XR , much smoother with lighter bar pressure, should be nice kite for progress👌
@@andriusslekys9291 We do have a very small community, so far in May, only 50 riders in the whole country have posted on Woo, and no one here uses Surfr... I'd say we have under 200 riders in the whole country who ride big air, perhaps only about 30-40 who ride it often. In Auckland there is only really one shop for kites, and they sell North or Ozone. Before 2020 we had another shop that sold cabrinha and duotone (what I was riding back then), but it went under.

I guess bright side is that you guys have a lot of space in spots with no traffic, open spaces for few kiters, that should be nice😊
Due to challenging local laws there are no schools and very, very few instructors so it’s hard to learn. Also gear is very expensive here because of our importing costs
Evo dlab 8m from 15 to 35kts, the performance of this kite in this size is amazing

Yes, 15kts on foil, but around 18kts is starts working for twintip and small loops at 72kg and duotone jaime 136 2021

Yeah I just bite on the orange floaty and tuck it in my wetsuit when I’m not filming… the jaw can get pretty tight holding it too long
