Quick story re: the shared lead singing of Clyde and Gracie as touched on at 3:14: Most of the band members (who didn't grow up together) met at Brown University. Gracie was still in high school but would often drive from NYC to RI to sing in what was then called "The Clyde Lawrence Band". One Friday, Clyde overheard a conversation between two other students: "Are you going to hear the band play tonight?" "That depends on whether Gracie is in town this weekend..." That made it pretty obvious how important baby sister was to the band! Not long after, the name became simply "Lawence"! 😁
Wow that's actually so cool!! I love that because they all have such deep roots with each other the music has a very personal and organic feel to it. Thank you for sharing that :) much love
I read the Wikipedia about ‘Lawrence’ today and it’s absolutely staggering how gifted the siblings are Their father Mike Lawrence directed ‘miss congeniality’ as well as other films, but Mike felt that the theme song of the movie was lacking and asked his 5 year old musically gifted son what he thought was wrong and Clyde wrote an entire new theme and gave it to his dad. Mike gave that song to the homie in charge of music for the film and he immediately agreed it was better and added it to the film which was credited to Clyde after its acceptance. This lead to Clyde becoming the youngest person inducted into ‘the song writers guild of America’ I think I might’ve still been figuring out wiping my ass at that age. Lawrence is absolutely incredible and I cannot wait to see them gain the recognition they deserve
I completely agree! I know Clyde likes helping others shine and loves seeing his music come to life, but I wanna see my songwriter shine!! His voice is just another level of soul!
