      I read & enjoyed the novel years ago & found an error! I wrote to Stephen King about it & I rec'd a postcard from him thanking me, (Card was a "Form" type & Not in S.K.'s original hand writing. That's OK! I know he's too busy creating more masterpieces!}. A paragraph AFTER Bobby lost all her teeth "toothless grin", mentioned that Bobby smiled a "ToothFuLL Grin". 🙃

    • @user-zf2kz5bq9i
      @user-zf2kz5bq9i 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Sure, let's just nobody mention that it took her 4 days of non-stop reading to finish one book with only 558 pages. I mean, she specifically states that she could literally not put it down. That's like 139.5 pages per day. which is like 5.8 pages per hour. Which means she took just over 10 minutes to read one page. I don't want to brag or anything like that, but I'm pretty sure I can write faster than that. Next time, just download the audiobook. It will literally save you a couple of days in your life.

    • @loraleijessick9581

    I Love Steven King's Movies and Stories. He has many Motifs and themes. One is the Power of the Color of Green. Another is that he wears his Childhood on his sleeves. You see his Religious Upbringing of Christian Fundamentalism as End Times and Simple things you can miss if you don't pay attention.
    Great Writer with an Aquierd Taste...

    First time, I am seeing this movie, really good

  • @OrchestrationOnline
    @OrchestrationOnline 10 ปีที่แล้ว +189

    The problem as I see it is that in boiling down an 800-page book to a 90-minute movie, you have to cut pages and pages of character development out. In the case of Stephen King, that means that unless the script really hones in on one person's story, like "Carrie," then you end up with a lot of people running around doing weird stuff for no reason that you don't really care about and barely know - like this movie.

    • @meepmeep3874
      @meepmeep3874 9 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      King himself stated that there's probably a good 300~ page novel (not sure the exact number he said, too lazy to find it) in The Tommyknockers somewhere. Although I am a fan of the book, I do tend to agree after reading it again recently.

    • @OrchestrationOnline
      @OrchestrationOnline 9 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      Andrew Hodgson Oh, if only those specific 300 pages had been skilfully boiled down into a gripping, terrifying, and moving script, with a clear narrative thread in there.

    This film/tv was made in a New Zealand location, at Puhoi, which is a small village settled by Dalmatians in the 19th century. The population (male) were gum diggers, and cut down Kauri trees which were shipped to Europe. The gum was from the trees, and was used as a high grade varnish. A number of the trees were used as ships masts. The village is approx 30 klms north of Auckland. We live 6 klms away.

Read JAWS also (Peter Benchley), and then drop leaflets from a helicopter begging the pardon of everyone you reached with your "all-seeing" canard about no movies living up to their books. Find Stephen King's own words regarding Carrie the book vs the movie, and use them (with credit), they're perfect.

      Dreamcathcers as well. A lot of aliens and spacecraft crashes in Maine. I think there's more in common with the shape-shifting aliens from Dreamcatcher and Pennywise than these aliens. The book describes the Tommyknockers as being interdimensional gypsys or something like that.

      suzycreamcheesez Wait. Are you trolling me? Everyone knows Stephen King writes books. Hence me saying "please don't tell me it was originally a book". But almost as well known is that many of his books are converted into TV movies, with the odd one getting a theatrical movie release. I was referring only to his work as it stands in the medium of TV and movies. And in particular I was referring how those endings are translated on screen, and their general awfulness. This movie got a thumbs up from me. The Mist also had a good ending. The Stand, It, and Dreamcatcher all ended terribly, although I did enjoy them over all. Sometimes they Come Back was just painful from beginning to end.
