JURASSIC PARK: Isla Sorna Canon and Lore Video (1 Hour)

- Isla Sorna is an island in the Jurassic Park world of movies and books that exists within Las Cisco Muertes (The Five Deaths). This volcanic dinosaur isle is the home of many cloned dinos like the Spinosaurus, T-rex, Velociraptor and Triceratops. This is a 1 hour canon and lore video on Site B history, expanded universe stuff from The Lost World, Trespasser, JP3 and even Fallen Kingdom from the viral marketing campaigns.
#JurassicPark #Canon #1hour
It's really strange that Isla Sorna's existence has been completely forgotten about for the past 3 movies. The closest we've gotten to it getting acknowledged is Camp Cretaceous
Well, Eli did briefly mention Sorna in Fallen Kingdom, and Ramsey mentioned it in Dominion to
@@TheJmall88 yes, but zero physical evidence of it's existence or even an in-depth explanation beyond a one-line throwaway sentence. No Sorna dinos anywhere in sight and zero explanation about what happened to it. I genuinely thought Isla Sorna had been retconned in Fallen Kingdom when Mount Sibo was erupting and everyone was saying "the dinos are going extinct again", as if they didn't have an entire second island of them.
@@yissibiiyte I mean, we kinda did get a physical look st Sorna in Dominion.
Where Wu shows Maisie her past-self back on Isla Sorna in the 80s, and it was the laboratory from Jurassic Park 3.
Site B was a dumb idea from the beginning. Why create a second (or sixth) island with dinosaurs in the same ocean to begin with when you already Had one. Makes No Sense. And yeah I know that was Crichtons Idea, I've read the book. Still, makes no sense. JP2 book and movie could've happened 1:1 on Nublar. And don't even get me started on JP3...
Even Camp Cretaceous was trying to avoid Site B & the Five deaths entirely to show us some new island that nobody asked for.
I love Isla Sorna because it has this…mystique about it. It looks so tropical but has regular trees and weird terrain. It’s like a fever dream of an island and I love it. It being baptized in old world lore with superstitions and calamities makes it even better. They can do an entire fake documentary of the island and I’d watch it. It’s just that cool of a place.
Who would have thought having two movies have different shooting locations would add such intriguing ideas in the movies universe?
Love this guy. What Klayton's doing, keeping Jurassic lore and mythology alive and strong, is so important.
Thank God for Site B

I really like these long form dives into JP with someone who genuinely loves studying the franchise.
I always thought in the first book that the dino making process was too squeaky clean. I love that Crichton cleared this up and showed us the hidden underbelly of illegal genetics in the second book on Isla Sorna.
Sorna is my favourite island both in novel and movies. Would love to see it again in movie or maybe a game.

Well no, not exactly. Dinos wasn't the only life forms in the past.
@@danielefabbro822Yeah, there was its first mammalian prehistoric creature in Smilodon on Mantah Corp Island in Camp Cretaceous and its first Synapsid representation in Dimetrodon in Dominion.
Several movies leading up to dinosaurs taking over the world only to find out that the true final boss of Jurassic Park is bugs... what a waste.
Isla Sorna as a location kinda gives me the vibe that New Mombassa from ODST gave me. A big sense of mystery, Isla Sorna with the mystery of Ingen and the hunters, and ODST with your missing squad and the mystery of who ever is guiding you throughout the game. The shere erieness of the settings, Isla Sorna with the lush tropical enviorment but the knowledge that literally anything could be watching you, and the feeling that New Mombassa gives with the arguably beutiful futaristic city architecture but the contrast of the darkness of night and the rain falling down on the empty streets knowing well enough you're most likely the only help you're gonna get being alone. And finally the empthasis the stories about them simply put on the locations themselves. Isla Sorna has many names given out of supersticion, it seemingly swallows most anyone thwt goes to it, the island istself has numerous mysterues of its own from ruins to signs of rival comoanies and espionage, and then New Mombassa being the new biggest city on earth yet still falling within hours once the enemies turn up on the front door justmto find out that the enmies are looking for somsthing and the way the game just shoves you into the city making you feel like you're really their. Its a weird parralel but i think it makes sense, either that im too high and should stop commenting dumb shit
Thanks now I gotta go redownload odst
Please do the latter or retype this shit when you're sober cus it's a mess🙏🏻🙏🏻
Isla Sorna to me has always been my favorite island and fascinates me more than any of the other islands
Isla Sorna is my favorite Island in the Jurassic Park Franchise, both The Lost World Film and it’s Novel as well.
The film has nothing to do with the book........
I understand what he's saying. I've read the books and watched the films of The Lost World, my favorite is still both versions. Indeed both are only similar by name and locations, but they were amazing story wise.
These super long lore videos are truly the best
This is why you are the best Jurassic Park TH-camr. Always giving us the best information about favorite island
The Lost World novel states that Sorna has another name. “Isla Gemido” or “Groan Island.” This name refers to the sound of the waves hitting the rocks and caves on the coast.
Good catch
moan island too lol
Wrong Muchacho
Isla Sorna
Site B
The land where Something Had Survived
An example of nature's beauty and its terror. A true Lost World.
Its sad to think that Hammond's line of "It's only a matter of time before this 'Lost World' is found and pillaged" given what happened after his passing with the illegal tests and the black market acquisitions
That combined with the Spino being a hypercarnivore
Does make you wonder what if anything still remains on that island
Yeah I feel like with next to zero security or oversight on the island. This may have allowed for a very unstable ecosystem. With a very aggressive and territorial Spino who seemed to have a similar killing instinct to the Indominus Rex in Jurassic world, and the uncontrolled population growth of velociraptors would have lead to an imbalance with two apex species taking out most of the herbivores quite quickly.
I stand by that the downfall Isla Sorna was tied to that Frankenstein’s monster known as the Spinosaurus since it was such a horrific creature nothing could challenge it save a fully grown T-Rex but even then I don’t think it would be an easy fight.
Dude, a Netflix series with Robert Muldoon constructing the park being that he was a game warden meaning he can structure the habitats and everything else? That would be a fucking series I will watch, especially if it let all the way up to the events of Jurassic Park
@@askers_ Book canon and movie canon are VASTLY different. In the books, Nublar was bombed to kingdom come.
The Spino was a prototype Indominus. Having it as gene spliced monster makes it less annoying as a Rex killer since it was probably juiced up on purpose to be a weapon.
@@askers_ The end of the first book, they bombed Nublar with napalm. Obviously you never actually read it. Jurassic Park The Game took that idea from the book.
@@askers_"Isla Nublar Incident (1993
The Costa Rica Napalm Bombing is an event that occurred just after the InGen Incident in the novel canon where the Costa Rican National Guard bombed Isla Nublar to kill the dinosaurs on the island. It is mentioned in Jurassic Park: The Game though there is little evidence that it actually occurred. A similar bombing happens in the ending of Jurassic Park III: The DNA Factor.
Story
During the Isla Nublar Incident of 1993, the United States Military made plans to send B52 bombers to Isla Nublar to eradicate the dinosaurs roaming freely after the humans on the island were evacuated."
With today's technology and peoples sensibilities having toughened up since the 90's in terms of horror films, I'd really like to see them reboot Jurassic Park 1 and make it as accurate to the book as possible. I love both the book and the film for different reasons. The film is just a fun dino action romp, whereas the book is a legit horror story set in a dino theme park. I'd love to see the book version brought back to life now that we have the technology to pull off some of the things that happen in the book, an example being the baby raptor that hops around Tim's shoulders before he throws it as bait to the adult raptors, etc., etc..
Movie idea. Titled “Sorna”. Takes place after dominion.
It’s straight up horror. A group of Jurassic park fanatics go to the island to check out the buildings and history surrounding them. They are under the impression, as with the rest of the world, that dinosaurs are no longer present on the island, as opposed to the insanity of the mainland. But they are very wrong!
The group is smart though, don’t make stupid decisions and try hard to survive working together. Main character is Ian Malcolm’s daughter, that’s discovered near the end as a twist though.
Thats not a bad idea.
Never think of an idea again 🔥🔥🔥
@@CHANN3L_NAME that’s not very nice :(
@chaylynnpetherbridge683 - This is likely to happen but in years time later as they could use "evolution" to play a part on the island of site B. The few small dinosaurs left would evolve as science puts it, nature creating new Real accurate dinosaurs of the Jurassic Park universe. The Raptors would still be the same size.
@CHANN3L_NAME - They said the Jurassic World series is done with movies but not the Jurassic franchise. There will a new movie series but in years later.
What an absolute waste of opportunity to not include Isla Sorna in Dominion or Camp Cretaceous Season 4.
I know
Wouldve been cool to see the raptors and maybe new species
Another 1 hour video, my day is now instantly better
About Ingen's list, the books kinda sorta had a list. Jurassic Park repeatedly mentions 15 species. Wu lets slip that he "thought" he had cloned over 20 species, which can be argued as an explanation why Sorna in The Lost World has a few more dinosaurs that weren't on Isla Nublar, like the Parasaurolophus, Mussaurus, Ornitholestes, Pachycephalosaurus and Carnotaurus.
So going by the books' universe, Ingen's list would have been about 25 species.
Yeah the books are really interesting. I think Gallimimus is even on the computer when they go into the InGen net
Yup! I just reread the books and that's true.@@KlaytonFioriti
@@KlaytonFioriti OH YEAH! That's right, the computer files [or printouts] when Malcolm, Thorne and Eddie were exploring the lab mentioned "Gallimimus bullatus"!
Actually Parasaurolophus were seen at the "welcome to jurassic park" sense in the orginal...they were with the brachiosaurs and were a greenish black

Love the lore videos on the JURASSIC PARK films.
I rather watch the first, second and third Jurassic Park movies than the Jurassic World Trilogy any day 😊
Yes. Exactly. I would watch JP3 way more than the entire JW Trilogy.
Universal will be another dumb studio if they are going on the path of action like JW trilogy for the new movie
I like both
To me the head structure resembles the grooves on an allosaurus or an albertasoarus so they may also be a solid contender for that second dinosaur that was in the tube.
Great video going over the complete history of isla sorna also known as site B.
I love this video Klayton you did such a good job, and I love the segment of the beginning when John Hammond talking about the hunters
Site B always was the most mysterious too me.
I think the next Jurassic movie should be about Jurassic Park: Japan or Lockwood's Sanctuary. Show us Claire working on the park.
Great video! Sorna was always my favorite island. It's really sad how it all turned out in the end with the new movies.
Oh hell yeah, been waiting for this one
I’m surprised I’m not the only one thinking about Isla Sorna. I find the island so interesting and I often thought a lot about the worker village and all the different derelict buildings as a kid. I don’t think many people talk about it enough as the jp 2 and 3 aren’t as popular.
Screw college hw, I’m always down to watch an hour of Klayton JP lore
Thank you for finally covering Site B, it feels like it was made irrelevant in the World movies
Trespasser is a game that deserves to be remastered
Obviously with none of the rushed development process as the original.
I really needed dinos today thank you klayton

Thank you for making this video Klayton I almost forgot the lore in lsla Sorna but that was interesting tho again thanks for explaining on the lore of lsla Sorna love the video ❤❤😊👍👍😊😊
They’ll never do it in any official capacity but I’d love to see someone essentially remake and “fix” trespasser. Flesh out the stuff that’s there and add the stuff that was missing. (As well as a bunch of more modern conveniences). Maybe a fan project of some kind.
I like to think that the pterodons had another way out of the cage, but it wasn't evident to the protags of JP3. And at that point the only way out was down, or back up
I love the history of Isla sorna and the other islands of La Cinco muertes
Does Sorna mean anything in Spanish? Because Isla Nublar literally translates to Cloud Island. Fitting, as the ocean currents in the area result in a perpetual fog.
According to my research it appears that SORNA stands for the Sex Offender and Registrations Act. It's quite strange that the locals chose to name their island that, but what the hell do I know.
@@KiddCrowley Actually in Spanish sorna means sarcasm
@@KiddCrowleyfunny that should've been the name of Epstein Island
Congrats on the well-earned subscriber with that ending - Christ is King.
Whether or not Wu created the Spino in that embryonics lab or anouther, you would have 2 or 3 labs working on the same project so that in the case of one lab losing its progress the other 2 would still be there
Old vid, and I've said it before, but Klayton needs to be a lore consultant or something on the next JP movie. Come on Universal, do it!
As a JP fan this video is AWESOME
Incidently, the two types of Pteranodon we see in the franchise were modelled after two different species, P. sternbergi and P. longiceps. The former is argued to be a different genre renamed Geosternbergia. The gargoyle like pteranodons in the JW era are closer to female specimens of P. Longiceps. What it means to the lore is probably nothing as I doubt the producers put that much thought into it.
I think any creature left stuck in a cage with limited food would end up being hyper aggressive when something edible came around… those that got out earlier were able to roam, those in the cage that were not as aggressive starved to death and died out, leaving the more aggressive ones alive to breed as well. Put those together: starving individuals and the more aggressive members surviving by any means necessary, it explains them.
Such a huge fan! You are the foremost expert I look to for all my jurassic park questions
Hey thank you! I really appreciate that!
I'd love to see the worker village. It could bee sorta like the colony in Aliens on LV-426 when the xenos took it over. Excepts its dinos.
I'm of the opinion that Jame's Cromwell's character in Fallen Kingdom is based on Hammond from the books (with a few changes). Hammond in the books and Hammond in the movies are most decidedly _not_ the same person and frankly, the one in the book gets what he deserves (basically he gets Dieter's death if you didn't know) and I like the hammond from the movies much better. An actual kind old man with big ideas and genuine love of more than just _money_.
Klayton, one interesting thing I want to tell you is that the guy who made the InGen List confirmed that some Inactive Dinosaurs were indeed created on Isla Sorna, but only as "Prototypes"
For example, there were 4 Herrerasaurus created by InGen in 1993, and this species didn't have a complete Genome (only 60%). There was also a skeleton of an Apatosaurus near the Workers' village. This explains why Roland Tembo had a species profile of the Corythosaurus.
So it's possible that inactive dinosaurs like Metriacanthosaurus and Suchomimus were already created at this time.
I'd love an isla sorna series. And a series on the construction of jurassic park
Always a treat to catch some more lore, thank you sir
When it comes to the bird cage, honestly i've always assumed they were the same pterasaurs as the other movies and was just a nesting ground for them at that point. We dont see the full cage ever so was easy to assume a part of it was damaged and an opening was made after the hurricain. As i said, a nesting ground was always what made the most sense to me since it fits all the requirement for a wild animal to concider it a safe enviroment for breeding, high elevation, hard to reach and near a source of water abd fish supply.
It's been so long since I've watched you mann I miss you..
This is absolutely fascinating, great video 👍
This is so cool! I always had questions about the Island Site B and the Hunters and what happened to them😮... Thank for this klayton!🙏👍😉
I’m one of the few Jp3 enjoyers, and I miss Sorna. Especially with the contrast between the two sides, one being in Lost world and the other in JP3. I’m a sucker for abandoned lab stuff. Sorry if I rambled a bit 😅
Yes! Love these!
That ingen hunter that told carter to hurry up that survived the long grass velociraptors only to die by the claws of delta in Jurassic World is quite ironic.
when i saw jp3 in cinema i thought that the birdcage is just a atempt to use what wasnt used in the dino park book,
since it is a more action packed version of the visit grant lex and tim had while trying to get back to the visitor center
i never thougt much about it since jp3 was the weakest of the original 3 movies
Isla Sorna's orange raptors had the dinosaur version of mad cow disease making them more vicious. (source = books)
Thanks for the video,Klayton 👍 I wish the JP franchise was in hands of someone like you.
I was not expecting the raptor jump scare in the beginning. you got me bro
I wonder if the facility we saw in JP3 was the beginning stages of Wu experimenting with hybrids. Even though they do not look like hybrid dinos, they could have been too young to show more characteristics than the base dino used.
Trespasser had nice easter eggs and lore, wish someone could pick up the I.P and reboot it, dinosaur games are a great markets if done right. . .and fun fact in the first JWE the power stations for the return to JP dlc, they called geothermal power station JW ones are more advanced and just called power stations.
im really enjoying these videos, keep it up
Great Isla Sorna compilation.
Where is Isla Nublar then? I don't know if I'm blind but I'm not seeing it on that picture of the island chain...
An R-rated movie about Isla Sorna and how things break down in conjunction with the events of the first Jurassic Park would crush.
Long form video. I dig it. I need more.
Does anybody else see the connection between The 5 deaths islands and Epstine island. Both were islands full of predators. Michael C was on the the flight log. There is a church on the island and some of the reviews are very concerning. Also the rewiews only go back a week like they were deleted. But people are mentioning Stephen Hawking, Materwelon, Chipmunks. Idk Its weird af, and very sus. What if there are 4 more islands. Epstine did own another island where he had to pay fines for desecration of slaves graves. In the beginning of jurasic park 2, the rich family refers to Jeffery before the Little girl gets attacked by the little dinosaurs. The year the movie came out was the year Epstine bought the island. Maybe someone was writing about the experiences in a secretive form. Lmk if anyone finds any other connections. Like the new anime one with kids kissing.
I wish they can remake Trespasser to run on todays systems. They can only but improve the game. The gun handeling and basically everything in the game felt Un-natural (even for that time).
imagine a series set during the days the workervillage was in full swing, getting to spend time with alot of juevenille dinosaurs.
I love the jurassic series
Awesome Video!❤️
Yo I haven’t watch your videos sense the time you played the video games, still going strong
You’d think the large herbivores would have stripped much of the foliage of the island.
That’s the think. Especially because they proliferated better than any others.
Unfinished tresspasser was amazin! I laughed so hard it was amazing in all seriousness tho it would be cool if they released a brand spankin new version updated graphics and completed but with the same timeline plot and attenbourgh voice clips as hamond. Chefs kiss
Personally, i always thought Sorna was just another failed park that was back pedaled into an island to hold and grow dinosaurs and ship them to Nublar. The Aviary in JP3 was likely a experiment to make Pterosaurs for an Aviary on Nublar, but the batch that was made before the hurricane was the batch we saw in JP3, and the other Pterodactyls we see are from probably different Aviary's for more variety in the species. Since most of the dinosaurs got moved, it was likely that the Spinosaurus was left until Manta Corp put it on theur island. I do have a head cannom that it was taken by Biosyn and placed on another area of the sanctuary, and would stay where it is until it was forced into the containment and likely was staying in water than fight in the final battle.
4:31 I like what you did there LOL
I like the island has deep forest on one side then a differnt part down south to show the difference a few miles can make
Correction about the Carno, you see 1 on the boat scene in JP3. They are a pink color.
