I never really liked the concept of putting people on money. That‘s why I loved it when Switzerland switched from those dreadful heads to the new notes.
Fun Fact, the swiss Bank has released an app that shows various AR elements if you hold your phones Camera at a swiss bank note, it's really interesting and i am not aware of any other currency having something like that.
The U.S has possibly the most boring banknotes in the world. When they released the new banknote designs in the late 90's I wrote to the Bureau of Printing and Engraving to complain that the new notes looked more like coupons than banknotes of the world's reserve currency. The wrote back and said they had been tasked with making the notes more secure not more pleasing aesthetically. They are ugly!
Unpopular opinion: I kind of like them, in a classic sort of way. At least they're not the euro, completely and intentionally devoid of any personality...
My problem with the Euros is not even that they're minimalist, but that they're too damn wide and made out of paper to boot. When I'm in Europe Euros go straight from the ATM to crumpled within my wallet which can't fit them in, within the space of about half an hour.
I work at Travelex (currency exchange) in Australia and can confirm that Canadian dollars do indeed smell like maple syrup! I love when we get deliveries of uncirculated bundles, they smell so sweet! BUT believe it or not, the New Zealand dollars actually smell sweeter! It's so awesome!!! Great video Chris! I agree all these notes are super cool, also another favourite currency of mine is the beautifully coloured Fiji dollars! :)

the new Australian notes also have a neat little feature as well. The old notes were all different sizes in length (with the $5 being the shortest and gradually increasing by the note and the $100 being the largest), the new ones keep this going but add an extra feature that can be overlooked at first glance. Each note near the top has a number of raised dots. Each note has a different number of dots ($5 have one, $10 having two, $20 having three, $50 four and $100 five), these I've been told along with the different length of notes are to help the visually impaired know which note is which. It wasn't mentioned and I honestly think it should as more countries should help their citizens with small features that make people's lives easier.
As a Swiss resident, I am really happy you like our bank notes ^\^ The 10 Franc note has been in circulation for a couple of months now, and it has the theme of “time”. I’m really curious about the others (100, 200, 1000), still.
The coolest feature on the new Aussie $5 and $10 notes are that they have a code in braille so that blind people will easily know exactly what they are holding. $5 = single bump, $10 = 2 bumps. At 3:39 you can see the bumps near the top left and bottom right corners of the clear bit.
That is pretty cool, but the South African Rand has had those bumps since we switched to the Big 5 theme in the mid-90s. 1 bump - R10, up to 5 bumps on the R200 note.
This feature appeared here in Switzerland with the Borromini series 100 Francs note, at the time this was rather novel but only with the following series the bumps remained more reliably readable, the first version wore out with use.
G’day from Australia 🇦🇺 I’ve tried to many European countries and I love the Swiss currency 🇨🇭, but Australia I think still has the most aesthetic money in the world. All the notes are unique, equipped with numerous counterfeit measures, various colours, and microscopic poems... it’s also made out of a strong polymer which makes it difficult to get scrunched when it’s in a confined space and it is water-resistant too... Those are just some features to name :)
Funny you say that... I did consider them but ultimately decided the Australian really deserved to win for originality's sake, as well as the new fiver being so cool. But I have just returned from 4 months away, including 1 1/2 months in NZ, and the bills will definitely be featuring in those future videos, so watch this space!

The back of the 500 HUF banknote actually shows my little hometown's castle, where the Rákóczi family(a historical noble family in Hungary) once lived. On the front you can see Francois Rákóczi II, who was the leader of a failed War of Indepence in the early 18th century. In fact the back of the banknotes show famous historical moments or places from the person's life, who is on the front side of the note. Fun fact: I am actually living on a street, which has been named after the painter, who has painted the portrait of Francois Rákóczi II, which the picture of him is based on.
No way, that's really cool! I have to confess I don't know a lot about the history behind these notes but this is really interesting, and I'm gonna look into it more now, thanks!
This video looks like it took a lot of effort! I love the way that you used stop motion. My favorite is definitely the Swiss ones. Great video, you earned a new sub
As a Canadian citizen, I believe that the new (2019?) 10$CAD bills are more beautiful than all the bills shown in this video except the (UV)Hungarian and Australian ones.
Really nice video! I like the way you made it and how in detail you could get when explaining the features in the banknotes. My favourite are the Swiss Francs. They are absolutely a cut above the rest.
Thanks for putting the CHF so high up. It's really quite a nice note to behold. I wonder if I ever get to see the recently released 1000.- note but it's a bit expensive xD
I can't believe Canada made the cut! I'm so happy and proud of our Canadian money. You can't forget that our $1 and $2 coins feature a duck and a polar bear respectively (as well as a beaver on the 5 cents, the bluenose fishing boat on the 10 cents and a caribou on the quarter) As for the maple syrup scent rumor, I think that they 100% smell like Maple syrup. I noticed it the first time I ever got to hold the note and I've been preaching it ever since. Everyone thinks I'm crazy and my family says I'm just being silly but as the bloodhound of the house, I think I'm gonna listen to my nose, thank you very much.
I like your voice, accent, style, and detailed explanations. I also collect banknotes and coins. Can I ask you...is the green drafting paper real or did you use software to create it? I am thinking about stealing your background. What did you use to edit your video? It is awesome.
Thanks very much, glad you liked it! Everything's real, just stop motion animation. Final Cut Pro. The background is a cutting mat, you should be able to get one on amazon or somewhere for under £10!
Ancerid Seriously? Did you never learn the saying: "If you have nothing nice to say, just keep your mouth shut!". If you were giving feedback, it would be a whole other story. You're just being mean for no reason at all! We should all really try and be a whole lot nicer to eachother! We are stuck on earth together...
Yeah I thought this was odd too, and have since learnt that each banknote will show a slightly different rotation of the earth so the whole series of notes (when it's complete) will show a complete rotation. Still seems strange now when only 2 have been issued.
It's so cool that the swiss notes go sideways! I love the color and themes. Also I like it when currencies don't show people faces but more timeless things like random hands here. This counts even more when these faces are backwarded royal mugs.
The new Costa Rica notes will share the same history. Announced in July 2018, the new Costa Rican notes use the same technology as the Canadian, British and Australian notes (being printed on Guardian substrate). The new notes are being produced in Australia (with an option to also produce them in Mexico) then shipped over to beautiful Costa Rica. They are as colourful as the people of Costa Rica are :) as you can from this video. Edit: The original 2011m 1000 colon note was produced with Guardian originally. But the new notes should be more colourful than that.
You should add the romanian leu/lei in your updated version. They look so cool and part of them in made of clear plastic. -Edit: It is also called "ron" just so you know. lol
I love the fact that the old Deutschmarks are very similar to the Croatian Kuna! I have 2.5 years in a bureau de change as well and wish I could make videos like these!
In my opinion, the ukrainian hryvnia and kazakh tenge are also pretty impressive. I’ve bought a 1000 KZT 2012 memorial note to keep as part of my collection. I visited Ukraine and kept all denominations of their banknotes because it’s really stunning especially the 1 UAH note
Sorry but the new £10 note is not the UKs 2nd ever polymer banknote. Northern Ireland had a plastic note about 18 years ago and in Scotland they have there own plastic notes.
Sorry! Should have properly fact-checked that, I've even had a couple of the Scottish ones, but I had no idea about the Northern Irish one being so old
I have £ coins and notes because I went to London. Does it means that they are not available in Scotland I will not be able tu use them when I will be there?
I'll be making an updated version towards the end of the year. Any suggestions for what banknotes should be included?

The frank is so beautiful that it looks like and art conference or convention banner!
Love the vivid colors and uniqueness of each banknote!
For me : 1: Switzerland 2: Canada 3: Costa rica 😍
The Canadian $10 bill has updated since and we have a black woman on it now! Her name is Viola Desmund and she challenged racial segregation.
The new 10 swiss franc is the coolest..
I love the 80's - early 90's U.S notes. Conservative, yet extremely intricate at the same time.
Thanks for putting the CHF so high up. It's really quite a nice note to behold. I wonder if I ever get to see the recently released 1000.- note but it's a bit expensive xD
We now have the 10 francs too in Switzerland! :)
Norway made it yay hahah🇳🇴
Yay Australia made it on the list!🇦🇺
Go Australia!
I can't believe Canada made the cut! I'm so happy and proud of our Canadian money. You can't forget that our $1 and $2 coins feature a duck and a polar bear respectively (as well as a beaver on the 5 cents, the bluenose fishing boat on the 10 cents and a caribou on the quarter)
As for the maple syrup scent rumor, I think that they 100% smell like Maple syrup. I noticed it the first time I ever got to hold the note and I've been preaching it ever since. Everyone thinks I'm crazy and my family says I'm just being silly but as the bloodhound of the house, I think I'm gonna listen to my nose, thank you very much.
For the Canadian bills, if you shine a laser through the circular part of the maple leaf it'll show the denomination of the bill.
Ainiewainy we're not stuck on earth together if we kill ourselves
you first
nah your alright mate

Show a map of the Earth, but not the part where Switzerland is visible
Yeah I thought this was odd too, and have since learnt that each banknote will show a slightly different rotation of the earth so the whole series of notes (when it's complete) will show a complete rotation. Still seems strange now when only 2 have been issued.
The Swiss francs and the Norwegian crown definitely looked the best. Although those South African bills were really beautiful too!
have to agree with swiss franc being no.1! the built and feel of the note is superb. you'll know it when you got it
Omg This one of the best videos of all time!
Thanks a million, glad you enjoyed it!
I live in switzerland and for me they’re pretty normal :)
Super sick how norway comes with these new ass notes and they immediatly get on 5th place
CocosetteMax We tried
Everyone joked around about how it must have been sad to be on the 200kr note just to be replaced by a fish.

What a well made video! Subbed because of your cat bridge, now so happy I did!
Brilliant work pal! Thanks for being great!
Very informational, I love your sense of humor. You got yourself a subscriber!
Thanks, glad to hear it!
I'm from Hungary but i didn't knew that our money can do that lmao
Romania also has bancontes made out of polymer , and also almost impossible to counterfit.

I love the enthusiasm! Sucked me right in :)
Thanks a lot, glad you enjoyed it!
For some reason I found this video very... cozy? Love it
It's so cool that the swiss notes go sideways! I love the color and themes. Also I like it when currencies don't show people faces but more timeless things like random hands here. This counts even more when these faces are backwarded royal mugs.
Yeii Costa Rica ♥️ thanks for the video 👏🏽
The new Costa Rica notes will share the same history. Announced in July 2018, the new Costa Rican notes use the same technology as the Canadian, British and Australian notes (being printed on Guardian substrate). The new notes are being produced in Australia (with an option to also produce them in Mexico) then shipped over to beautiful Costa Rica.
They are as colourful as the people of Costa Rica are :) as you can from this video.
Edit: The original 2011m 1000 colon note was produced with Guardian originally. But the new notes should be more colourful than that.
To me the Canadian is the best
Momo Mansoor I’m upset that they never addressed the braille on our bills!
I like the Canada one too,So beautiful
Malamute Monster UK has Braille
I like the colorful notes with animals. I kinda don't like how our Canadian money is so plasticy.
Yes same
You should add the romanian leu/lei in your updated version.
Costa Rican Colón 💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻
Where can you order sets of each bills from? Would love some of the swedish ones
Just a Travel Exchange, Sweden launched a whole new set either late last year or early this year I believe, so they're pretty cool now too.
Your local bank branch should be able to help you. Most joints will have small stocks of the most important currencies.
👨💻 3:12 🥇 you can thank us aussie's for inventing the NEW 💲bank notes now the rest of the world is using it bar usa lol 👍💲
I didn't expect our boring Australian Dollars to be NO. 2!
Thanks for paying attention to the land down under!
Congratulations on 17k! This morning when I dubbed it was 16k, good job 🙌
We don't really count northen island though.. do we?
of course you can ,but if you get scottish notes and then return to london you might struggle to use them ,iam scottish and had problems in the past ,
@@GoinMLG mmm Northern Ireland is part of the United Kingdom "United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland " is our country's name
The $20 note in Canada smells like maple syrup. I visited Canada 1 Yr ago.
The one hundred dollar bill Canadian smells like maple syrup.Im Canadian btw
I'm Canadian, and love our banknotes. New Zealand also has really awesome banknotes...very similar to Canada.
Australian currency looks the best. That transparent thread is one of a kind 😎👍
