    In watching a lot of your videos, it makes me think we have a lot in common. One of the things, is the fact that you take pride in your work. I too have done this for years. I have always preached to my Son that whatever he does, it has to look good. Don't put a lot into the repairs, for we will make it work, but it has to look good. When he was in his teens, he use to help me install satellite systems, and this was one thing I always preached. The cabling had to be ran properly and stappled in place and hidden, etc. I guess in sunk in, for he is preaching the same thing to his boys today. Fixing the scratches with the felt tipped marked is one of the tricks I used too. Great videos, keep them coming. Jim WA5WRE

    Very nice, Buddy. Looks like you did it again with this one. In typical fashion you nailed the problem right off. I got lucky yesterday. Went to a hamfest in Mena, AR and picked up an old Heathkit IG-42 signal generator for 20 bucks. I gave her a bath while watching your video. Cleaned the pots and checked the insides. Caps look like new. So I fired her up and she works perfect. Thanks again for all your videos, Buddy. They have been a tremendous help. 73 DE K7RMJ Frank

    It's amazing when you think about all the different industries that made products during the CB craze of the 1970's and 80's. Everything from the radios themselves and all the antennas and accessories that went with them as well as the test equipment to repair them. Not to mention all the retailers and little local CB shops that sold all the goodies. Must have been hundreds of millions of dollars spent over the years just on CB related stuff. I have that same counter Buddy and it works just fine for making quick bench measurements. As you say, the sensitivity is not great at low signal levels but it's good enough for most things. If I need high accuracy I wheel over my cart with the HP-5340A 18 GHZ counter and the HP-8650B signal generator. They are just too big and heavy and take up too much bench room. Looking forward to your take on the Victor. 73 Doug.

      Oh the memories. So much stuff made back then. Some of it was pretty cool. I miss those days. Seems every manufacture got on board with cb radio stuff. I really need to find me a good HP counter for high frequency. I will give the Victor a once over and see how it looks. Thanks for the comment.

    • @dougmcartin3881
      @dougmcartin3881 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The HP-5340A is a great counter Buddy. They are still in the $500 to $600 dollar range even though they are getting a bit old now. It's a workhorse and very reliable. I got one maybe 15 years ago when I was playing with 10 GHZ ham band stuff. It still works just fine. Just too big for the bench being a rack mount design and weighing in at 25 lbs. 73 Doug.

    I have found the HP5342A to be pretty good, I picked up a couple at different times, both had faults which were easily fixed (you can check out my repair videos on them if you haven't seen them), they are old, BUT they work well, good sensivity, and most things are fixable on them, cover up to 18GHz, I have one on my bench fun time. There is also the racal dana 1992, goes up to over 1.3GHz.

    Hello Buddy, I've got a 1040 with 240V and stated on back so they must have made some for export. Mine came from near the sea and has corrosion problems. The traces on the pcb are old by now and very sensitive to heat, even with my Pace system you have to be super careful. I haven't finished repairing mine yet but if it's a no go well you know who I will buy one from.
    The Victor frequency counter is an excellent item for CBs, considering the cost, I've had one for 27MHz for a while.
    I've got another counter I use for uhf. As always thanks for a great video look forward to the follow up. Cheers from down under mate.

    Buddy - I know you enjoy building your own test equipment,are you familiar with the T747 Tester for microphones. They work great - but I was wondering how hard it would be to add a modulation meter to show the amount of modulation a microphone is putting out. That way you could see how much increase there is over different microphones,stock,noise canceling,different brand,different element and amplified it is hard to tell just listening. Thanks for any help you can give it will be appreciated.
