That thing about writing 100 songs and paring it down, I've heard other musicians bragging about doing that, I'm pretty sure most people mean they come up with 100 riffs (or beats or whatever music is these days) but tell me... if you're REALLY writing 100 great songs that you love then explain all the filler material on nearly every album.
