    many years ago I struck the locked gates at South Yarra station, a major junction for Frankston, Dandenong and Sandringham trains and it has 6 platforms. I was attempting to get the first down train and the arrival time was approaching. I went down Yarra Street and climbed the fence just after the brick wall. The platform lights were off and the platforms were dark. I had to cross the pit (the tracks) to reach my platform. Right on time, my train arrived at the dark platform and I boarded the train, I didn’t see anyone get off.
    I could have used the gate from Station Street which was always unlocked. This is not the official entry or exit.
    You can’t do this nowadays as it is a “Premium” station with the spiky fences they now have. I think the Station Strret gate was abolished during the upgrade.
    Basically whoever was to open up the station was late. It is meant to be a manned station.

    Great work Chris. Shame after all that waiting you weren't allowed onto the platform.

      I'm still intrigued as to why the train stopped at the platform even though the gate was locked

    I used to get the train to school between 2000-2005, my train was the 1 per day that stopped in Bordesley. They used to run ‘matchday’ schedules. It’s a bleak place, nobody EVER got on or off!

  • @mittfh
    @mittfh 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

    The station is effectively subject to a Parliamentary service only, and is likely to be closed permanently when the Bordesley Chords are (eventually) constructed, as the viaducts in the area will be remodelled to support the new junctions.

    I can remember when it was well used. Loads of factories in the area - they closed one by one and replaced by businesses employing very few people. There are hardly any residential properties.

    The person at Moor Street advising you that Bordesley in only open on Saturday football matchdays is wrong if that train that was advertised to stop there in the timetable. I find it strange that the street level gate was open but the platform level gate was locked, surely they would both be either locked or unlocked! The other question would be what would happen if a passenger gets off the train and has no phone. Is there a working helpoint on the platform?

      I'm going back tomorrow to get the train from Small Heath which is scheduled to stop at Bordesley, just to see if the train doors open and whether the top gate is open or locked.

    I worked as a guard on this route when it was run by Central Trains. I dont think I ever sold a ticket from Bordesley... even when the football was on the place was deserted.

    I got off a train at Bordesley in about 1980 when Moor St. was backed up because of a snowstorm. Back then it was served by a few trains in each direction per day. The platform for Moor St. then had a signal without a green aspect since all trains could go only into the terminal platforms at Moor St.

      From what I have seen in the past, the station is only really used when Birmingham City are at home. However, back in the summer, three people actually got off when this service stopped at Bordesley (see short clip towards the end of this video)

    I think it’s natural to have train services where you get trapped at a closed station. You have to have provisions with you for the time until the next train arrives…😂😂😂😂
    See ya next week…💀
