Big one with the sonnex valve, if you have a triple disk converter and tons of line pressure like me you can get a dragging in 1st and reverse that always wants to stall the car, when you don’t have that valve or pump relief it’s the converter lockup drain back circut also , replacing that valve in the car will fix it, been there done that lol good tips!
Love the videos! Been watching both the full rebuild and this one to do mine. Kept me from doing some serious damage to my recently sourced 4l80e. I also like that I'm not drilling a bunch of holes everywhere.
Opened mine up this morning to find the 4th accumulator spring broken. Ordered a delete plate for it. What would you drill the separator plate holes to with the delete plate instead of the accumulator installed? Thanks. Video was a huge help for me.
Outstanding. I followed this procedure exactly. Not sure if I did it correct or not since I just did this yesterday and haven’t installed the trans lol. But this made it super easy. Very concise explanations and easy to follow.
Hey Ryan thanks for all your helpful videos.. question for you if I’m running a tru cool 40k cooler, should I did loop the cooling circuit through the radiator? Thanks!
I have a transmission that has failed forward drum and an HD2 kit already installed and was curious about the pressure relief valve and should I be blocking off
Yeah I still don't do it. Only difference now is if I know I'm going inside the trans, I will dual feed internally with a Jakes recal kit, and add the HD intermediate snap ring.
I’m building a foxbody 4.8 ss2 pac 1218. Gt45 with4l80e from a u haul that was buried in junkyard, I’ve done plenty of 4l80e rebuilds for buddies and what not,I always install everything included in the hd2 kit, I haven’t opened my 80e in my car yet, when I do should I skip the relief step? I always here it can stick but personally I’ve never had it happen to anyone I know. Have you had one stick before?
Not that I confirmed, but I did hurt this trans slipping st the track, and believe I burned up a converter previously from the trans. This one at one point woukdnt even move, I plugged the relief port then drove it for another 6-8 months.
"Back in the day", we had a store that was full of surplus hardware of all sorts. I would pick up bolts of various lengths, threads and sizes, cut the heads off, rounded the ends and used them as temporary alignment pins. Cheap, easy and very handy!
Best video you've ever done holly shit 🤣😉. I'm blown away greatest tutorial of all time! back on your game that's what I'm talking aboooot. I gotta ask what's with the gloves that's not usually your thing js 🤔🤣. Getting smarter I see good man. Keep it up hope this transmission does the trick.
Been wearing gloves, and fully covering my arms a lot more lately. I dont like to, but my arms have been getting real irritated lately from rust and stuff. I'll get a rash on my arms that lasts 2-3 weeks and it's annoying as hell, lol. As for the video, I do enjoy making detailed videos like this, but every task isnt always worth the detail, and 4-6 hours filming and editing. This is like a 45 minute job, but took almost 5 hours with editing. The 1-2 accumulator spring portion I disassembled/reassembled and filmed twice because the kids were noisy in the background etc.
@@BlaserBuilds well it reminded me of the first v8 ranger videos good man. As for the rash it happens sometimes ya gotta do what you don't want to do lol. Keep it covered.
Hey bro, there are many people getting different results with hole size. Just curious how you like the 1/8. I don't want to chirp the tires when i put it in gear or at normal cruise but i want quick and firm for WOT. I have about 425 whp, with a 3800 stall and 4:11 gear in a 3600 lb c10. Little N20 if needed
What does the check balls do? On this kit you have to remove the ball closest to the round cap and the check ball that is closest to that one has the hole on the transmission kind of wore out?? And the part that it sits in the valve body is OK it’s just the top part of it that is on the actual transmission or is it supposed to look the way it does?
I guess I need some help I put the shift kit in my 2005 GMC Sierra 2500 HD yesterday and I did exactly as you did in the video The only thing I did different was I installed the pressure release valve and two new shift solenoid‘s but for some reason sometimes my truck will takeoff in second gear and it shifts to second gear at 15 mph and if you do not slow down to under 15 mph it will stay in second gear and once you get up to speed it will shift to drive and it has no bottom end power and when you’re on the interstate when you stomp down on it sometimes it will shift down a gear and other times it will surge how do I fix this problem??
So can I pin this out on my ECU and use HP tuner to go in and set up the 4L80 if I was running a 4L60 previously or do I have to find an ECU that had a 4l80 hook to it from the factory
I know your vid is older but I inquired with transgo about the pressure relief mod issues and for the differences between the transgo 2 and 3 kits, here’s what they said- “The HD2 requires a computer, it keeps it automatic. No design change, the good old Urban Legend that a pressure relief causes transmission to fail is just nonsense that does the rounds online by people that don't even know enough about basic hydraulics to know they don't know. That pressure relief when installed properly does absolutely nothing unless one day there is a pressure regulation issue, at which point it would simply kick in to save you a bunch of money on broken parts. Blaming it for a transmission failure would be like blaming your fire insurance policy for you house getting flooded during a hurricane. LOL” What’s in quotes is their reply. Have you personally seen the relief mod issue you are saying to avoid? Thanks!
I have a video on the channel with a valve crooked in the valve body on one I rebuilt for someone... Transgo also says the intermediate snap ring is optional(kit can be installed in vehicle). I broke the stock intermediate snap ring in the transmission in this video with the HD2 kit, and had to pull the whole thing apart anyways. Now, they'll probably say it broke because i didnt have the pressure relief, but I have to ask... If thats the case, do I really want that valve relief popping open and relieving fluid on every gear change? Most people I know doing this kit aren't spending money on hard parts regardless. They're throwing this in junkyard transmissions for a few hundred bucks to avoid opening up the transmission at all. They're not even installing the whole kit. There's much better options for shift kits and dual feeding internally if opening up the transmission. Jakes recal kit has no pressure relief, CK Recal kit has no relief etc. This is a cheap DIY option to use only if not removing the pump. If you're doing enough to open the transmission up I don't recommend this kit.
OK so as we speak I’m laying under my truck about to drill the valve released hoe so you’re telling me not to use that? Because it can stick and burn the transmission out?
@@BlaserBuilds do you recommend doing only what modifications you showed here, or to go ahead and do the full hd2 mods for an untouched 4l80 with 130+k miles on it?

@@BlaserBuilds I'm torn between the 0.125" on all 3, or I've also seen recommendations that say do 0.125" on 2nd and 4th, then leave 3rd and remove the check ball.

You guys think i could add the springs to the direct drum from the hd2 kit while using the Jakes recall kit?
@@moose1992caprice You could. You could just buy the springs also.
@BlaserBuilds ok. I already bought the kit and then did my research. Needles to say, I went with the jakes kit instead.

How is the shifting now using both blue springs in the transgo kit? I'm rebuildung right now while watching your video. Thanks
Thought you were supposed to use just one spring in the area where you drill valve body?
