Hans Zimmer said that when he received the script and understood that it was essentially about a boy who loses his father and has to overcome his grief, he decided to write a song for his own father, as he also lost him at a very young age. So, what you hear in this song is Hans Zimmer mourning his father.
"Simba. You have forgotten me. You have forgotten who you are and so have forgotten me. Look inside yourself Simba. You are more than what you have become. You must take your place in the circle of life once more. Remember who you are. You are my son, and the one true king. Remember who you are..."
Adult Simba: That's not my father, that's just my reflection. Rafiki: No, look harder. Rafiki: You see? He lives in you. Mufasa's ghost: Simba. Adult Simba: Father? Mufasa's ghost: Simba, you have forgotten me. Adult Simba: No. How could I? Mufasa's ghost: You have forgotten who you are and so have forgotten me. Look inside yourself, Simba. You are more than what you have become. You must take your place in the Circle of Life. Adult Simba: How can I go back? I'm not who I used to be. Mufasa's ghost: Remember who you are. You are my son and the one true king. Remember...
Simba: No...please! Don't leave me Mufasa: Remember Simba: Father Mufasa: Remember Simba: Don't leave me... Rafiki: What was that?! The weather, very peculiar
Times have changed, it’s sad to know that 90s kids were one of the best era known to mankind. When we was transitioning to the internet and technology thinking it will be good for us but it’s truly destroying us. Remember who you were, that happy kid driving a bike around on sunset evenings with your friends, don’t let that inner child die let future generations know of that experience. Pass on that true happiness of a childhood
Everything about this spells ROYALTY. Extremely befitting of a lion. It has a sad and triumphant vibe to it, like the life of a lion: filled with danger and trouble, with very little peace, and for all the power and strength he has during his few prime years, he dies a humbling and painful death, always after battle. But his prime is unlike any other, the apex of the land, feared by every other animal. In those short years, every other predator runs at the mere scent of him, his rivals avoid his people and turf. The lion in his prime can make a kill and sleep without fear of losing it, for no other predator dares to attempt, not a leopard and not even a clan of hyenas. The song makes those few short years of DOMINANCE seem worth the pain and suffering he undergoes during his youth and old age.
I’m 18 now but I remember watching this scene in I was like 13 and it hit deep I felt like the Holy Spirit was speaking to me through the movie telling me to remember who I truly am and was met for more then this world hallelujah
I was 8 years old when I saw the Lion King in the cinema and was confronted with such emotions for the first time. I Can hear muffasa speak when I hear this. best movie ever and goosebumps right now.
This song is truly amazing when you realize how well it's used throughout the film. The first time it's heard is when Mufasa is explaining the intricate balance of the circle of life. (Something which Simba obviously doesn't understand yet) It then plays when Mufasa tells Simba about the importance of knowing when to be brave and telling him to look to the stars for guidance when ever he is alone. (Another bit of wisdom Simba doesn't fully grasp yet) It's slipped ever so quietly in the background when Simba realizes that his dad is gone and is never coming back. (Wake up call for the arrogant prince) Finally it plays when Simba finally faces his trauma and realizes that he's got to confront his past and take responsibility! (At last learning what it truly means to be a King and take his place in the circle of life) Oh, and the best part: this song was expanded in the Lion King Broadway stage play to be "Shadowlands", Nala's exclusive song! Man, what an amazing film! Can't wait to celebrate it's 30th anniversary!
"You Must Take your Place in the Circle of Life, Please don't Leave Me!, The Wind's are Changing, Ah Yes Change is good, Yea but it's not easy, I Know what I have to do but going back mean's I'll Have to face my Past I Been running from it for so Long"
Wow this is such a blast from the past. I saw that film with my mum and sister in the cinema and my sister got the soundtrack on cassette. Listening to it evoked such a strong sense of nostalgia that it brought 9 year old me to tears and I didn't fully understand why. This part particularly so. Now 30 years later I'm nostalgic all over again!
“You’ve forgotten who you are so forgotten me. Look inside yourself simba. You more then what you have become, you must take your place in the circle of life.
*THE LION KING* (1994) ‘Simba.’ ‘Father?’ ‘Simba, you have forgotten me.’ ‘No. How could I?’ ‘You have forgotten who you are and so forgotten me. Look inside yourself, Simba. Remember who you are.’ ‘No! Please! Don’t leave me!’ ‘Remember…’ ‘Father!’ ‘Remember…’ ‘Don’t leave me.’ ‘Remember…’ *THE LION KING* (2019) ‘Simba.’ ‘Dad?’ ‘Simba, you must take your place in the Circle of Life.’ ‘I can’t.’ ‘You must remember who you are. The one true king.’ ‘I’m sorry. I don’t know how to be like you.’ ‘As king, I was most proud of one thing: having you as my son.’ ‘That was a long time ago.’ ‘No, Simba. That is forever.’ ‘Please! Don’t leave me again!’ ‘I never left you…and never will. Remember who you are. Remember…’
With all the ugliness and division the USA is going thru in 2024, I found this. It brought me back to before technology played a huge in our society. Wow

Не спеши с этим, никогда.

Back when creators had spirit in their work, and let it flow naturally. Now everything has red tape of precautions
This comment is the most touching and nostalgic piece of writing I have heard in a long time

Who said that ?
Goosebumps all over my body! Amazing song!
This is probably without doubt the MOST beautiful Disney melody ever created - it’s so wholesome, powerful and beautiful - perfect!

All of it is beyond good! What are u talking about!?
This still brings me to tears, especially with how my Dad calls me Simba, and this song reminds me of my Dad a lot.
The past can hurt. but the way i see it you can either run from it or learn from it.
"Simba? you have forgotten me"
" No, how could I?"
😭
“You’ve forgotten who you are so forgotten me. Look inside yourself simba. You more then what you have become, you must take your place in the circle of life.

This is so beautiful✨ 😩🙏🙏
0:40 is the best part

as much as the music itself itself is powerful, the art work is just as powerful! fantastic work well done!
