how has the awkward horse not been turned into a meme yet lol
I don't care if it's art, that horse and the awkward silence is some funny shit!
art is allowed to be funny.
just because it's funny doesn't mean it's not art.
@@senem2835 yeah that's what I said.
It was first done over a century ago when Americans were singing “Sweet Adeline”. How groundbreaking. Be amused. Erik would want you to laugh. Enjoy!
p
With such remarks as vague as obsolete very clever who will know if it is bacon or pig.
Yep, the horse gets best of show.
As startling as this work is today, imagine how it must have felt watching it unfold in 1917.
Supposedly, it caused a riot when it was first performed in Paris and the creator of the performance was jailed for 8 days.
The horse got me man
Reminds me of John Cage's 4'33"
@@pramitpratimdas8198 it's better because honse
TFW y'all jamin' and that awkward ass horse shows up
FANTASTIC HORSE
Ahhh, yes, the Cocteau/Satie/Picasso ballet. I'm glad to finally see a recreation. :D The dancers are actually fairly good, and the dance itself is so stylized and rigid throughout. It's cool. (And weird, but it was made by *those* three.)
"The dancers detested these costumes, which were a torture to move about in. . . .they, too, had to do a lot of stamping, which was intended to suggest conversations between them . . . a relic of the fascination exercised over Diaghilev by pure rhythm divorced from music."
"exercised over"?
@@holarc "on" ?
What I find most fascinating about this work was that, upon its release, it was critically panned for its embrace of cubist artistry which was widely associated with the French's foes in war - the Germans. Ironic it is that this is widely accepted as art in this day despite the fact that it was utterly dismissed at its time of release; many times art is appreciated only by the beholder who is removed from the time of the work's original publication.
Muzzly1234 saw the Joffry do this around 76 I think at City Center. still not my cup of tea.
why did my art teacher tell us to watch this, the horse- 💀🏃♀️💨
Music by Erik Satie
I'm back here. Two years after dancing it.
Could you expand on your intriguing comment, Alina?
Wonderful. wish I could see the whole thing.
"Erik Satie, born on 17th May 1866. Satie was arrested, charged and jailed following the accusation of being a "cultural anarchist" after a riot broke out at the premiere of Parade." I would riot if I saw that.
Does anyone know when this performance was recorded? The quality seems too good to actually be from 1917. Is this a later recreation?
I'm guessing it's the Joffrey production of 1976. That does look like Gary Chryst as the Chinese acrobat, even with all the make-up.
Yes, the recording was made at Linc Centre with Joffrey Ballet in 1976
what the actual fuck
Yeap, that's the way they thought about this ballet in 1917, now it's regarded as a true masterpiece, and I agree.
Nope; it's actually just good.
this part's sounds good 1:19 - 1:23
génial ! Great !
Amazing to watch.
1:07 why does she look like an anime character?
Не понял, что в этом спектакле такого " скандального " углядели...
Simply fascinating!
the video is not from 1917 though ;)
I'm working on this at school for art's history.
Sorry if my english is bad 😆
Wonderful to see. As for the horse, art is indeed allowed to be amusing/funny.
I chose to do a big paper on Parade for school, so it's good that there is at least an abridged video to watch besides just reading many books about it.
+nekopls Hey do you know if this is a video of the actual 1917 production or if it is a recreation. I'm doing a presentation on this and someone might ask.
Serina Dennis
It's a fairly recent restoration, though performed, set and costumed basically how it would have been in 1917. There is no known recording of the original unfortunately, but if it existed it would be much older-looking, with a lot more rioting and noise in the background. Hope your presentation goes well!
***** True. I probably won't be doing much work on the arts in the future though, since I've gone more into history and sociology.
is there a full high quality version of this? this video is hard to find on the internet.
笔鸭嘴 no there is not
anyway, thanks, what a pity.
what a shame the entire ballet performance isn't filmed...or rather presented here. i recall seeing it once, very young studying ballet and modern dance.
This is great! Is there a full version I could access?
for this we need to go to 1917.)
dreaming about time machine.
it's amazing!
+Tatiana Larina I also view the full version in the theater of châtelet in Paris (yes I'm french) and that was cool but for look the complete version you need to go in France! 😔😔
th-cam.com/video/YejpJ4kMH_0/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=rolandeDRECOURT 22 minutes long
I wanna like it but I don't really understand it that well - can anyone give me 1-2 "beginner's plays" that I can watch? Or maybe I'll google "ballet for dummies" :D

satie went to jail for this...
the only thing I can say about it is impressionistic and the nut cracker suite with asian esque dance.

when where was this filmed??
1976.
imagine getting home from world war i and you decide to go to the theater to calm your nerves and catch up on the art trends you missed, and you see *the horse*
Impressionante!!
Why weren't there lions and tigers? Sacrifice the horse to art in the finale.
Wonderful !!
Puerile. Only amusing when you have been pulverized by weeks of Wagner operas.
+John Borstlap Dzamn. Preach.

C'est magnifique!
This is precious. Thanks a lot!
This is what the French were doing as thousands of their soldiers were being slaughtered in World War I
Satie would have been useless in battle. He fought the constructions of Western Music and set many on a path to follow in his footsteps.
the chap who wrote this served in wwi
What have you been doing while thousands of our soldiers have died in the middle east and africa?
@Yash Salvi people try to push this idea that just because there is war, there shouldn't be art... let alone high art. its stupid and simplistic.
Satie served as a corporal, even though 48 at the time.
I love this!!!!
Nice.
a science fiction ballet at the beginning of the twentieth. extraordinary.
Ok
Buenisimo
Como es que está a color?
This was staged by modern ballet dancers in 1976.
