As someone who studies poetry and has been writing it for over a decade, I’m gettin really tired of people comparing her to Shakespeare or calling her some ground breaking poet. If you think Taylor swift is breaking new ground you need to open a book or listen to some other song writers because I can assure you she barely scrapes the bottom of the barrel, which is fine, she’s allowed to be mediocre and you’re allowed to enjoy her music, just stop insisting she’s on the level of artists and poets like Margaret Atwood or Stevie Nicks, it just exposes that you live in a bubble and haven’t listened to that much music or actually read any poetry Edit: and before you say I “clearly haven’t listened to her songs” I wanted to see what all the hype was about so I did, listened to Evermore and the album she just released and I was not impressed
And then they say people who disagree "lack media literacy" and "don't get it". Hell, there's even a comment saying "I bet you don't listen to many songs" when the Shakespeare comparison was debated. If you like her music, that's fine! But worshipping the dirt she walks on is absurd. It's more about cult of celebrity than actual talent. She's mostly successful because her billionaire father bought her way into a major record label, not because of hard work or skill.
her songs are generic pop, she was really good years ago but fame got to her dropping quality with each subsequent album…she isn’t poetic, just very overrated but highly popular
The same way that people are allowed to enjoy her music, you’re also allowed to not. this is a little silly because Stevie Nicks herself has put Taylor Swift on a pedestal and even wrote a poem that is featured as an intro to Taylor’s newest album. Again, you’re allowed to not like her music! i also agree she shouldn’t be compared to Shakespeare, but if her work “barely scrapes the bottom of the barrel” then why are universities, colleges, academics teaching courses on her music/lyrics? I’ll reiterate one more time that you can not like someone’s work and you can say you don’t like someone’s work, but to downplay their talents for the sake of making yourself feel better about not liking someone’s work feels disingenuous as a poet.
@@meleenal7454well you don't need talent for opportunity. Taylor swifts whole career started because she was from a rich family, which isn't a problem but she wasn't exactly scouted either. Now that she's even richer and extremely popular they will teach things on her or use her as an example because it increases engagement. Especially when you have such die-hard fans that the moment anyone supports her they will flood to that organisation to support it. I think her talent is marketing and she is an impeccable business woman, creating lyrics and songs so generic majority of people can listen to them. Which is why people like it, it's relatable it's everyday experiences but is that ground breaking? No. In order to extraordinary you have to be better than the rest. I respect her achievements as a business woman, I respect her marketing, I think she is smart but do I think her achievements are because she's lyrically talented? No. I agree she's talented but what she's talented in is debatable.
@@meleenal7454your comment almost made as much sense as a swifty can so good on you for that. The pod is always them fighting. It's either Colleen being snarky or Eric being passive-aggressive. I stopped watching them a long time ago because of this. I'm glad I did because then the second shit can blew up with her. I don't see how a 37 year old woman could be that excited about an album. I understand being excited and wanting to listen to it but to sit here and say I need peace and quiet and nothing to be said about this because it means that much to me it's just so odd. Especially when you have other priorities to worry about. Now she's flying off to Paris to catch Taylor's show. Where in the past she wouldn't even let her poor husband go on a silent Meditation Retreat. She manipulated him not going by using their kid as a as an excuse for him to stay home. Wouldn't you miss him you wouldn't leave us. She's probably afraid if he gets some alone time and he's going to see what kind of person she really is and take off hopefully with those kids.
Because she is a woman. A woman can get away with terrible things like that. EDP445 got exposed for being a heathen and look what happened to him. His career died overnight. Colleen can do the same thing, and people give her a pass...
She and Colleen are birds of a feather. Taylor has defended/dated/had an 11 year friendship with Matty Healy, who touched underage girls at his concerts. She's been friends with Drake for 11 years.
When Colleen said "Swifties don't push it onto anyone" Uhm? Yes, so many of them are literally obsessed and they've threatened me before if I didn't like her new album. Taylor swift is mid, and that's my opinion. They just need to deal with it. She's not some goddess who saved the world..

The exact problem with Swifties. My friend, a grown ass man, has given me shit for not liking Taylor Swift. I was genuinely surprised when I learned he was a fan because nothing else in his music collection hints at being a swiftie.
Colleen’s fake niceness and passive aggressiveness is genuinely scary. Her husband is literally scared to talk about this topic and it’s sooo obvious why. She says “no one says everyone has to like Taylor Swift” and then goes into a rant how, because of the fact that he didn’t like the album, she was mad and it completely ruined it for her. Same with Miley Cyrus. When her song Flowers came out, I said how I didn't care for her and I was already over her new song since it was literally the only thing everyone around me could talk about, and I lost 2 friends that very moment. I feel like those two have some of the most cultish, toxic fanbases ever. At 7:40 you hit exactly what I’ve noticed a huge problem with since around the pandemic. It’s existed before for sure but I’ve noticed it just start smacking me in the face even with my favorite creators. What you said about feeling like you’re watching a therapy session. Even before Def noodles did anything even remotely problematic I knew his downfall would come. I knew something bad was going to happen when he started fighting openly with keem star because almost five days a week he would spend about 1/3 of his videos talking about him even when it had nothing to do with any relevant topics. It felt like something to me I would talk to my therapist or counselor about. You could see how preoccupied his thoughts became with him. You could compare this to someone who arguably probably talks about Keemstar the absolute most on the platform Ethan Klein who only ever brings him up when he does something relevant or new and devotes the minimum amount of time and makes sure to try to bring only relevant commentary and does it in the most humorous way possible. But to my original point creators in the last 2-3 years have really begun to treat their audiences as therapy sessions. I don’t watch but it reallllllly seems to be a huge problem in the clips that blow up and get circulated from Shane’s podcast with Ryland. Also fuck Colleen put on your god damn earphones. Walking around with your phone playing music out loud? For someone who has made music and plays? Don’t you even care about audio quality? That’s a crime listening to music through your phone speaker and you should be emrbarassed.

as a woman who's been a swiftie since 2010, i can confidently say this woman is crazy so what not everyone loves taylor swift and that's fine girl needs to grow up it's not that deep
Even the most charitable interpretation of her previous behavior suggests she has clear boundary issues & refuses to listen to any voices of reason that might be around her. Whether she's a bad driver or just a reckless one, it was bound to end up in a wreck.
5:30-5:40 Sounds like a victim mindset, states the "good things" about her music then says the "oh just because I like it because of that doesn't mean you have to" phrase. However, by choosing to say something like that automatically makes you think that she's trying to pin you as the bad person because you don't like Taylor Swift because she did those things
🤦🏿♂️🤦🏿♂️ This is like an awkward moment when you're hanging out with your friends that are the type of couples that always fight 😂😂 that's a no for me, even without her background
15:45 This the only take of Colleen’s that is actually pretty accurate. Because Taylor’s songs are so diaristic there are so many songs of hers that can not be fully appreciated unless you understand the story behind it. There’s a reason that people dissect her lyrics in college courses and endless amounts of TH-cam videos- because she truly is a master of the English language. Most of her songs can be appreciated by the outside listener but never to the full extent of someone who has knowledge of her lore. She also often uses a lot of literary techniques and little-known words that might not be fully understood without some reflection or research and that’s why people often say she’s the modern day Shakespeare. Like let’s be honest this dude simply would not understand lyrics like “Is it romantic how all my elegies eulogize me?” or “Now you hang from my lips like the gardens of Babylon, with your boots beneath my bed, forever is the sweetest con” without some research. Often times people who criticize Taylor’s music only hear the radio hits or don’t take the time to analyze her deeper lyrics which is a same because they truly are speaking on a topic that is so much broader and deeper than they realize. That being said I’m not a crazy Swiftie and I do have a lot of critiques of Taylor and some of her music, but god I just wish that people could realize that there are intense layers and lore to her music that is truly incredible and that’s why so many are so invested in her. I think these two SHOULD have a discussion about football which can be just as complex to an outside viewer so that they can explore his perspective of simply not caring/not knowing enough to speak on things that she doesn’t understand. These people really stress me out.
Sharing experience. I kinda sympathise with her when he put down the album. In my country, when I was young , we had a popular comedy duo for children. Then I watched the comedians with my grandfather in the room. He came down hard on the silliness and stated you have to be stupid to enjoy this shit! I was 6 and never appreciated the duo the same way.

It would have been more interesting if she actually named it that
As someone who studies poetry and has been writing it for over a decade, I’m gettin really tired of people comparing her to Shakespeare or calling her some ground breaking poet. If you think Taylor swift is breaking new ground you need to open a book or listen to some other song writers because I can assure you she barely scrapes the bottom of the barrel, which is fine, she’s allowed to be mediocre and you’re allowed to enjoy her music, just stop insisting she’s on the level of artists and poets like Margaret Atwood or Stevie Nicks, it just exposes that you live in a bubble and haven’t listened to that much music or actually read any poetry
Edit: and before you say I “clearly haven’t listened to her songs” I wanted to see what all the hype was about so I did, listened to Evermore and the album she just released and I was not impressed
And a hair of research will tell you none of the classes are diving into how poetic and deep her lyrics are. They are all either 1. Marketing classes or 2. (Like at Harvard) a class that study’s how the lyrics she used relates to actual poetry like Shakespeare. None of the classes are “oh my god her songs are so good learn to write like her” 🤣 more on the “how is someone so normal so popular” side of it

That’s a crime listening to music through your phone speaker and you should be emrbarassed.

man, who wouldve seen that coming
