I'm 12 and I would love to volunteer at an animal shelter after the Covid 19 has passed! I just need to find a shelter close to me, although most of them you have to be it least 13+. Does anyone have any tips? I want to work with animals as my job, but I'm struggling to find where to start lol. Hopefully I'll be able to though:)

Not exactly. There are a lot of No-Kill Shelters that do not kill without cause...so any healthy animal without major personality issues will continue to stay there until they are adopted.

One of our pets came from a foster family (more like transition family) who got her from high kill shelter. Her name is JJ she is a border collie mix. Best dog in the world and the other pet is Silver the cat. Silver we found under a storage unit at 1 month old she was with her family but also wondering off. We took her home with the approval of a vet assistant. I plan on always adopting and not shopping because of the amazing animals we have gotten

PLEASE can someone HELP me. A few months ago a kitten appeared in my yard, i think its about 6 months old but! its a VERY nervous kitten, it could be a feral, the problem i have is its heading to the vet but! i'm unable to catch it to put into the cat carrier. I want to keep the kitten if it decides to go off and doesn't want to stay at least when the vet neuters or spays it then i know i'll have done my bit.

We learned about animals shelters and mostly all of us agreed that shelters shouldnt just keep them for 6 days then put them to sleep(kill them) you should give them a week or 2 because no one is gonna adopt a dog that fast they need time .... My teacher adopted her dog they dont know if their owners moved or he ran away so that animal shelter put a chip in its neck and their # on the collar/leash thing now thats a good shelter SOME shelters Have a No-Kill policy (which means they dont kill them) but some also just put them to sleep give them at least more days some timee... Just wanted,to share because we oearned it today soo yah buy... Imma get a puppy for Christmas!!

whats tragic is that you just learned the fact that stray animals are killed within a few days (usually 4-6 ) of being found , this is very true but what is far worse than that is that literally almost NO one knows OWNER SURRENDERS are KILLED often before the owner has had time to get back in his car and drive home. WHY ? because NO ONE IS LOOKING FOR THEM .Shelters DONT say anything usually ,and theres a BIG difference between SHELTERS, Humane Societies and ANIMAL CONTROL, They are all 3 totally different places and only a very few Humane societies are NO KILL , EVEN NO KILL SHELTERS KILL but just when they are FULL so NEVER SEND A DOG OR CAT there are too many alternatives . Beautiful innocent family pets who are dumped stand a 1% chance of getting rehomed . AND NO ONE is doing anything to change it , If the public had any idea what is really happening to shelter pets they would think long and hard before dumping their family pet off at these PET FOOD supply houses (most shelter pets that are murdered by animal Control facilities are sent to rendering plants and used for pet food, the cure is DONT DUMP YOUR PETS and if you cant keep your promise to care for your pet for LIFE ....DONT GET ONE , Please educate your neighbors friends family and find out about your local facilities , Its time the DIRTY SECRET WAS TOLD so the KILLING CAN END.

Dont the shelters usually give the animals 3 months?

    • @tedsnerdsrope
      @tedsnerdsrope 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

no, depends on shelter (as little time like as soon as they walk in, to their whole life until they naturally die)

The situation is becoming more and more common where county and city shelters are closing their intakes when they reach capacity.
Why do they do this? Put simply, to avoid euthanasia for space. Why? Because for one, no shelter WANTS to put down social, healthy animals just because they run out of room. But the other big reason is because no shelter wants to be labeled as a Kill Shelter.
Why not? Having that label equals being hated and being labeled the Bad Guy. This bad reputation leads to lack of support from community members. So, many shelters are closing intakes so they can be labeled as No Kill so they can get more support.
This whole process is wrong for two main reasons: 1) Euthanasia in shelters is the result of irresponsible community members. Those people are the bad guys, not the shelters. If community members as a whole shower their local shelters with support by fixing their own animals, microchipping their pets, adopting instead of shopping, fostering shelter animals, and volunteering and donating, only THEN can shelters avoid euthanasia for space. WHY? Because then they can get animals out of the shelter alive faster than they get turned in. It’s elementary school math.
Why is it bad when all shelters feel forced to close their intakes? Simple. What do you think happens to those animals that people are trying to bring to the shelter? They’ll be shot, drown, abandoned in the woods or on the street… So if they’re killed by the person, I promise you it’s way more painful than being humanely euthanized at the shelter or vet. And if they’re dumped, they most likely have not been fixed and if they manage to survive the cars, coyotes, diseases and starvation, they will breed and those cats and dogs will be feral (unsocialized and dangerous to humans, pets and wild animals).
So PLEASE stop using the terms Kill and No Kill. It puts the blame on the wrong people and the focus on the wrong issue. Use Open Admission and Limited Admission.
Be a responsible pet owner, get your animals fixed and microchipped, don’t let them free roam, and support your shelters by adopting/fostering/volunteering/donating.

To get more animals adopted & not returned to shelters please read, & promote:
Regarding Pet Rent & Pet Fees in Rentals:
This is clear discrimination. Smokers "always" cause damage & need carpet/padding replaced, walls/ceilings re-painted w/many extra coats/kilz, appliances replaced, vents cleaned, etc. in attempts to get smoke out. Costs are astronomical, as stated by the many utube videos done by apartment managers - check: costs of smoking apartments.
There is no "smokers" rent, or non-refundable deposits & they are never charged a dime for the damage they always cause. College students & children commonly cause damage, &, there is no "college student/children" rent/fees.
Pets do NOT always cause damage. I've been doing animal behavior problem solving almost 30 years. Yes, you will get some irresponsible tenants with their animals, but, no more than average tenants who are irresponsible & cause damage, &, definitely have NEVER caused as much damage as any smoker.
Smokers are never turned away, &, pets usually are turned away, &, limited in how many, what size, breed restriction, etc.
No pet has ever caused a risk like a smoker does of fire - life threat to the whole community & building damage.
Hopefully, these discriminatory practices will soon be outlawed, &, people will be able to go back to rentals for refunds for the years they've lived there.
In addition, renters mostly do NOT want carpet for allergy purposes, animals & any bug issues. Carpets are toxic. Please focus on offering healthy rentals without carpet (or, at least offering non-carpet for those who desire). Your expenses will be enormously lower (not replacing carpet every year, or paying for carpet cleaning.
Taxes are extremely high due to Pet Rent & Pet Fees. This is keeping people from adopting at shelters because they cannot afford the pet rent & fees. People who adopt from shelters are lowering our taxes. Costs to run Animal Control in every city in the U.S. include: buildings, utilities, employees, supplies, veterinarians, etc. due to excessive animals & not enough homes for them. People who adopt from shelters should actually have "reduced" rent since they are saving our country enormously on taxes.

*Hello! I'm interested in the IguVerse project and I think that it would be great if you could collaborate! They are making a gaming project where people will share 1 percent (or more!) of their in-game income with animal welfare organizations. I think that they could be great help to you!

Older kids need to know the harsh truths: Thousands of animals in shelters are euthanized each year because there are not enough adopters. Also, older kids need to learn about spay and neuter. The shelter in this video is so-so. How long can any creature be in a small glass enclosed space ALONE without feeling koo-koo? Cruel. Why not put some compatible dogs together in a larger space?

Animal shelters are jail for them. It's a cold sad place where they spend months and years in jail and they get executed. Unless you make it a happier place where dogs are not separated, run around outside and are not euthanized, these types shelters are the worst place for animals
