  • Huey Lewis struggled early on in the music industry as he once said, “In the ’80s, the way radio was programmed, if you didn’t have a hit record you weren’t going to be able to make any more records. That was it, period.” Thanks in part to the movie Back to the Future, and a few really catchy tunes - Some 40 years later we're still listening to any number of hits from Huey Lewis & The News. Here's his story though cards.

That was so fun, thanks! I’ve got a channel devoted to sports cards, pop culture, and the 1984 All-Star Game. Huey Lewis and the News sang the National Anthem and are featured in Episode 15: If This is It. I’ve got a neat 7-11 Slurpee lenticular card of the band from 1985. Thanks for doing these great dives into history. Dave

Thanks I really wanted to cover Huey Lewis. I subscribed to your channel. Really great stuff and I can't wait to dive into more of your videos. I remember the 84 World Series, love that team and why isn't Lou Whitaker not in Cooperstown?!

They should be in The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame it's just because the like of Jann Wenner is an elitist snob. You know the type when you have to be a Dylan, Neil Young or punk group to be recognized as worthy. HLN's music was so accessible and upbeat it did not tick the boxes of the self-appointed judges of great music. If Dolly Parton and other non-rock stars have been inducted it remains a joke that HLN still hasn't. Snobbery is still alive and well. Hopefully this will be one day be rectified.

Yeah man, the 80's were known for overplaying EVERY good song. They were good times for sure. Those that grew up in the 80's were the last to have childhoods before the internet. No joke, I once got a speeding ticket blasting Sammy Hagar's I Can't Drive 55. Back in my young and dumb days.

Haha! I loved the video for I can't drive 55. I'm trying to think of some of the most over played songs then. A Flock of Seagulls I Ran So Far comes to mind as does Michael Jackson's Bad, Thriller and Beat it. I also heard a lot of Missing Persons, Billy Idol, Crowed House, Toni Basil, Berlin and The Motels - none of which were bad.
