Sushi USA vs Japan - Eric Meal Time

  • Here's three differences between Sushi in Japan and American sushi joints:
#1. Japan: The original sushi roll (Maki) consists of sushi rice and fish or vegetables wrapped in nori (seaweed). America: To appeal to the western aesthetic, the traditional roll was flipped inside out. Americans like their rice on the outside and nori on the inside.
#2. Japan: Maki sushi is simple: seaweed, sushi rice, one type of fish, and maybe some vegetables inside. America: Sushi rolls are jam-packed and topped with different types of fish, veggies and whatever else can fit inside the roll.
#3. Japan: Sushi literally translates to vinegar rice. Sushi rice is a smaller white grained rice seasoned with vinegar, sugar and salt. It takes time and a specific temperature to create perfect sushi rice. America: In order to attract health nuts, sushi restaurants introduced brown rice as a substitute for the necessary white sushi rice.

I prefer the Japanese sushi over that experimental American stuff. And the ambiance is better in the Japanese setting. The Vegas place was just too noisy to me. Another cool collab though.

Sushi has become a designer item here in the states. It's all about who can come up with something different to be the next in item. In Japan it's about the food not being a gimmick.

    1) I've never seen sushi inside out here in NYC.
    2) Most of the sushi I've seen is relatively simple.
    3) I've only seen white rice used (doubt it is sushi rice). I would like to try brown rice to see what it is like.

    • @00Julian00
      @00Julian00 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

The brownish rice you saw in the actual Japan located restaurant was due to the use of Japanese " red" vinegar, and not due to brown rice. It stains the rice brown. Alot of sushi places use this special vinegar, but definetely " normal" rice vinegar ( and the resulting white vinegared rice) is more common for sure.

A Japanese mutation of the delta-mutated novel coronavirus, which is raging with a higher infectivity than before, was confirmed for the first time.
This mutation is characterized by adding a structural mutation similar to the delta mutation (L452R) and the alpha mutation (N501Y), which was first discovered in England and became popular at the beginning of the year. Only 8 cases have been reported worldwide.
"The patient has no overseas travel history," the Tokyo University of Medicine and Dental University explained.
The research team said that additional research is needed to determine whether the mutation is not significantly related to the current spread of coronavirus in Japan and has a higher risk of infectivity and aggravation.

7:46 8/15/2023: Hello Ericsurf6, Dude and Asami from Gilbert Arizona USA. I know this is an older video but I'm really enjoying this collaboration with Dudes friend as well. The sushi 🍣 looks so amazing. The sushi 🍣🍤🍣 is absolutely gorgeous for coming out of Las Vegas. Salmon of all kinds are my favorites. I'm dying to try oysters. But here in Gilbert Arizona USA they are very hard to get. I get them canned, but they just aren't the same. I have to go to the local hmart store or 😊 local fish market. Again I love the sushi 🍣 that you ate. It was really beautiful. And thank you to you all for doing this comparison. And as always Healthy Blessings 25:24

The Yomiuri Shimbun reported on the 25th that Tokyo Electric Power Corporation has decided to discharge contaminated water from the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant in Japan, where a large amount of radioactive material was leaked, into the sea about 1km away from the nuclear power plant.
According to the report, TEPCO plans to build an undersea tunnel and discharge contaminated water containing radioactive materials into the sea 1 km away from the nuclear power plant. Japan plans to submit a tunnel construction plan to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission by the end of next month with the goal of discharging contaminated water from the spring of 2023.
Previously, the Japanese government announced that there was no more space to store the contaminated water accumulated since the nuclear accident caused by the Great East Japan Earthquake in April 2011. Since then, the authorities have considered discharging the contaminated water directly from the shore and discharging it through an undersea tunnel. TEPCO plans to reduce the risk of radioactive materials by diluting and discharging contaminated water. There is also an analysis that the decision was made with the external image in mind. A Japanese government official told the Yomiuri Shimbun, "It costs a lot to build, but the discharge through an undersea tunnel will give a better impression (for Japan)."
Concerns are growing in neighboring countries including Korea and China due to Japan's discharge of contaminated water. This is because tritium, a radioactive material, remains in the contaminated water even after purification, and it can flow into the oceans of neighboring countries.
Tritium, a radioactive material, is much smaller than a water molecule and has the same chemical properties, so it cannot be separated from water. This means that if it is released into the sea, it will contaminate marine life as it is.
Tritium, which enters the body through food or air, such as ingestion of seafood, is fatal in that even a small amount can damage DNA. When tritium pushes out normal hydrogen in the human body and causes nuclide conversion, the gene is modified and cells are destroyed, causing various cancers or lowering reproductive function.
There is concern that even if the concentration of pollution is lowered, the total amount will remain the same if released for a long period of time, adversely affecting the ecosystem.
If anxiety grows, the economy may suffer, such as a sharp drop in fish consumption in the market and a slump in the fishery industry.
Greenpeace, an international environmental group, suggested an alternative to storing tritium in a tank for a certain period of time and then releasing it when the level of contamination decreases, as the half-life of tritium radiation is halved by 12.3 years.
However, despite this, the Japanese government insists on ocean discharge for reasons such as cost.
