For someone that actually move from Europe to China and live in Haikou for 10y, it's far more safe than Europe, let's not compared it today's Europe with China, also one reason I actually move to China to begin with. Mind you, I move from Norway/Oslo, not from Paris either. When you are in China, just don't force things on the Chinese people, mind your own business and don't push your views on them, than you doing fine, nobody would bothering you.
