  • Home-designed and home-built greywater system in Melba, ACT, Australia. The system receives greywater from the shower and washing machine, passes it rapidly through a small (220 litre) two-stage filter comprising charcoal, gravel, and root-matting plants, into a large (4,500 litre) constantly-recirculating stream where the water is naturally aerated and UV-treated, and most dissolved salts and nutrients are taken up by vigorously-growing water plants. After more than 2 years' operation, the water quality is very high: total dissolved solids are below 360ppm and pH is always in the range 7.24 - 7.80. Music: "Doodala", Mr Fibby.
